Thread: green-black vs gray-black
We're not given any other choice! What you are seeing IS BLACK, but the devs in their infinate wisdom have added a green tint to all black colors so that even the darkest shade of black comes out looking like a really dark olive green.
It was not always like this. Black used to look like black. But after a major patch many months ago all the black items looked more green & have remained so to this day. Items made before the patch were not immune to this either....they all changed with the patch.
The black that I think almost everyone calls black is the same color you get in the artisan tree. This is the closest to black that there is, and if it looks like dark green, then your monitor's colors might be a little off. I keep my monitor color calibrated with a special device (not for SWG, but for photography) and it doesn't look green on my screen. It isn't completely dark, though. The sort of black that everyone seems to want would *not* look very good on clothes. There would be no detail on the clothes at all, and it would make everyone look like black blobs with faces (unless they were wearing their uber-black helmet).

I know what you mean.. Although a compromise wouldn't be bad.. When you make a suit jacket using the "grey black", you get a different color then you do with any other item using that color..That is the color I would like to have available for all items..

I don't know what monitor settings I have, or what in game gamma blah blah blah settings I have....but I have no clue what the gray black and green black are. I just know which appears to be the blackest black on the palette, which for me is the top row.
The closest black you can get on the full palette is RGB(64,64,64), which isn't too close....
It's color #91
In the leather palettes, you can do a bit better - RGB(45,45,45)
