Thread: green-black vs gray-black

Ever since I started this game I wanted a badass set of all black clothes. When I searched endlessly on the bazaar I saw nothing and bought noting but this green tinted blackish color and I was very angry. I eventually found a tailor later on who made gray-black clothes and I asked her about it and she said she had notticed that people used a green khaki color that is obviously green on the tailor palette in place of black and we both laughed and said those people must be crazy.

Then I mastered tailor on another server and notticed that you don't get the gray-black when you first start making clothes and that on some things the gray black really looks like gray (dress slacks i think) and that the green-black almost looks more like black, but still looks gross.

So basically my point is, why are you people still using that disgusting green-black from back in your domestic arts days? Do you not see that there is a gray-black color and looks much better? I'm so tired of dealing with crappy tailors on Scylla lol.

We're not given any other choice! What you are seeing IS BLACK, but the devs in their infinate wisdom have added a green tint to all black colors so that even the darkest shade of black comes out looking like a really dark olive green.

It was not always like this. Black used to look like black. But after a major patch many months ago all the black items looked more green & have remained so to this day. Items made before the patch were not immune to this either....they all changed with the patch.

Same reason why the white of the leather palette looks actually light pink when compared to the white of the complete palette. Go figure.

It's so stupid. I dont understand why we don't have a true black and white. The same was with UO but at least there you could get a black dye tub which gave true black color.

The black that I think almost everyone calls black is the same color you get in the artisan tree. This is the closest to black that there is, and if it looks like dark green, then your monitor's colors might be a little off. I keep my monitor color calibrated with a special device (not for SWG, but for photography) and it doesn't look green on my screen. It isn't completely dark, though. The sort of black that everyone seems to want would *not* look very good on clothes. There would be no detail on the clothes at all, and it would make everyone look like black blobs with faces (unless they were wearing their uber-black helmet).

I never even noticed this before someone wanted a custom order with "the gray black not the green black" and i was left thinking 'wha?' I always use the black on the first line of the color palette. Now i have to log in to see if this is the right one lol.

I know what you mean.. Although a compromise wouldn't be bad.. When you make a suit jacket using the "grey black", you get a different color then you do with any other item using that color..That is the color I would like to have available for all items..

I don't know what monitor settings I have, or what in game gamma blah blah blah settings I have....but I have no clue what the gray black and green black are. I just know which appears to be the blackest black on the palette, which for me is the top row.

For me too. I think this is the same black you get as an artisan, though.

lol yeah but look on your color palette its all these green colors the lead to a darker green color and the other one has light gray leading to the darker gray. I have a pretty nice computer and a pretty nice graphics card so I don't know what you're doing different.

The closest black you can get on the full palette is RGB(64,64,64), which isn't too close....

It's color #91

In the leather palettes, you can do a bit better - RGB(45,45,45)
