Thread: green-black vs gray-black

The thing on the top row is dark green. Black is several rows down from that.

Generally speaking, I think the black we have is perfectly fine, and that a large number of people need to adjust their graphics settings. 9 times out of 10, I ask someone dissatisfied with my Blacks if they'd adjusted their graphics so they could see stuff better at night without using CTRL-L, and that's a big part of it.

It's mainly a couple schematics that *really* don't look black that bug me, like the Simple Vest, which is so obviously colored in not-black (and which would look great in a standard black!)

I have to agree with Sue. I had a customer, who got rather snotty with me even, insisting I had made his clothes green and not black like he wanted. I allowed that since he had been rushing me and annoying me the whole time I had traveled to his location and while making the clothes, that it was possible I had a slip of the finger and clicked on a green instead of a black, although it had never happened before, and no one had ever said their black looked green before. So I made him another outfit. All in black, even knowing that the textures of the items he'd chosen would not all match exactly, even in plain old black. He still insisted the clothes were green. They sure looked black to me.

After he insulted me and gave me a rant about how he'd gone all the way up to Dom Arts 2 and knew the difference between black and green and that his char on another server had the same outfit in true black, not this greenish black, and that I must not be a very good tailor if I didn't have black yet (Master Tailor title above my head) and that he would just go find a better tailor... and I put him on ignore...

Well, I forgot about it for a while till one day I was on Talus and it was so danged dark I couldn't see anything so I went into options and turned brightness all the way up... then later when I went to a planet with more user friendly lighting... ALL my black clothes looked greenish black. All the other colors were off too, but the black was the worst. I reset to default options and it all returned to normal -- black was black -- well, as black as black had ever been.

I also noticed if you have your opacity set to various levels, it alters the value and hue of all the colors. It's most noticeable in crafting on the color palette screen.

Is it dark green? Some people tell me that, but it doesn't look green at all to me. The one several rows down looks like dark red to me. Maybe my calibration is off again. I should check with photoshop.

I just looked at it in Photoshop and it looks like I have something set wrong in SWG. The closest black is the one that is a few rows down. Now I need to figure out how to get the game set right.

lol yeah but look on your color palette its all these green colors the lead to a darker green color and the other one has light gray leading to the darker gray. I have a pretty nice computer and a pretty nice graphics card so I don't know what you're doing different.

The darkest color is the one that most people call black, which has an RGB value of (59,62,53). The most neutral color is the dark gray you are talking about, with an RGB value of (73,73,73). When people ask for black, they are usually asking for the darkest color you have, not the most neutral. After all, it really depends on how the person's monitor is set. If they turn up the blue a little to make the colors look a little cooler, then it will look much closer to black than the gray color.

black and graphics dont go together all that well... its really hard to get a good model with black involved...

thats why we get off black and off white colors...
