Thread: Ridiculous pricing??

Anyone ever go browsing on other tailor's vendors and find crap like pants for 50 credits? A customer turned me down for a luxy gown because she found one for 1k. I'm thinking WTH; how can you possibly make a profit off that?

My pricing is normally like: 800-1000 for shirts 1000-1200 for pants 1000-1200 for jackets etc. My goal is to keep outfits around 2-4k without accessories like gloves or belts or headwear etc. Same with dresses; I keep them from 3k-6k so as not to descriminate against gender.

Is this just ridiculous pricing or are my prices way too high?

Honestly, I think your pricing is fine. It all depends on how you want your workload to be. Tailors who sell for too little often end up burning out, or being unable to keep the vendor stocked, or simply deciding that the profit margin is too low to make it worth the time to craft (considering how much money one can make on enraged rancor missions and the like.) My advice is to find a few established tailor mentors on your server, and evaluate your prices based on them. If they are truly lower than you by a good 25% per item, I could see lowering prices to fall in line with the server norms. Otherwise, pfft, do you really want to be slaving away for 50 credit shirts?

P.S. Sometimes the 50 credit stuff is "liquidation sale". For example, when I want to rotate out my shop displays and create new ones, I'll slash the display item prices to move them out. Usually the display items will be weirdly named, and sometimes they will be weirdly colored (i.e. all my halloween costumes). So those sort of sales might crop up.

Well I do think my pricing is fine, since I do make quite a few sales (only when its stocked though heh ) and ents dont mind paying the prices for my exotic leotards. Liquidation on low level stuff... maybe, but high level stuff like luxy gowns makes ya wonder.

Another theory I have is that people are lowering their regular clothing prices because they are migrating to BE cloths. What does a few K matter if you're selling BE clothing for 25k + eh?

I'm also trying your technique NJ of raising low level item costs and lowering high level items to make a closer rangeof costs. I also believe I have the right (woo go me /flex) to charge a couple hundred more because they're made by a master.

Ah well I guess I'll just live and learn if I'm not getting the sales I want then I'll lower, but for now everything is ok.

Another suggestion.....

Sometimes the customers are creating a "phantom vendor"....ask them where it is.

If they really know, go there and purchase any decent items that are selling for rock bottom prices. Then place them on your vendor for your normal pricing......

I try to keep my prices fairly reasonable. I don't think I'm too high, maybe a little on the low side because I've had repeat customers come in and say I charge too little and tip me like 10-30k on the clothes I make for them. (ie I charge them 10k for X items and they pay me like 20 or 25k).

Accessories (handwear, footwear, hats (not Twi'lek), bandoliers and belts I charge 300 credits for all of them.) Pants, shirts, dresses, skirts, vests and jackets range from 500-2500. Bodysuits and robes are 1500 and Revealing Fleshwraps are 3500.

I make a fairly decent living. About 8-15k a day. Working hard to get enought money for a vendor during Intrepid's Groove Fest in August (heard tailors can make like 1-3 million in 3 days). I dabble in some BE clothing. Not quite enough money for all the tissues so right now I only have BE clothes for entertainers and doctors. I've never gone to check out other tailors on the server.

That's not completely true. I sell clothes very cheap (i.e. one Exotic Leotard for 1215cr) and i manage to keep a couple of 100k. And I don't even do rancor missions. I'm only Marksman (not even master). Cause my lowe prices gives me many costumers. I sell my clothes for the same prices as it costs to sew them and since the merchant tree Efficiency gives me discounts It only costs me around 15k per month to have a large house, six vendors and a name on theglobal advertising map.

I found myself in competition with another tailor whilst doing the tailor grind. The problem was, none of her items were priced at more than 200 creds.

I finally discovered she'd bought a few million creds of e-bay, and could afford it.

Happy end to the tale though - everyone ended up buying mine anyways.

No, I don't make any money from selling clothes, but I don't need to make money from it. I can do a few missions and then I have enough money to pay maintance to everything and also has lots of spare credits. Something I should have wrote in my previous post is that in my guild we help eachother alot. I don't have to hunt hide cause they all hunt for me and once my good friend Avalon gave me 100k fiberplast and 100k copper. So I'm good

If your guild is helping you out, might I suggest funneling the benefit back to them, not to the public at large (and undercutting tailors in the process). Why should the public gain the benefit of your guildies' hard work? Many crafters sell to guildies at low or no-cost, while keeping the prices higher for the rest of the world. I only wish there were a way to put automatic discounts on vendors.

I do give clothes to guild members for free. And it's not like they gather all my resources. What I mean is if that they are out doing missions and come across creatures, they take hide for me if they dont need any of the resources for themselves. I have low prices, but I don't think I have ridiculous lowe, cause i haven't been messaged by other tailors angry because i get all costumers. That was what you meant with "undercutting tailors in the process" right? If not, say it in another way cause my english is not the best

And if you got the impression that my guild does everything for me and i do nothing in return you are so wrong. When I was doctor i buffed everyone for free. And if i would have sold those buffs i would been more then 1 million credits richer.

Oh and one more thing, when I dropped doctor, I gave a backpack full of buffs i've bought and other doctor items to a guild mate

No... that's not what I meant. I'm sure you do very nice things for your guild. My point is simply that you should treat them much nicer than anyone else you sell to because they deserve it. (And it seems that you are )

hakk,

cool, if that's what's fun for ya, do it, just don't expect a lot of love from fellow tailors if you are selling to the public (and not just your guild) at cost. To me that makes you a mercenary, not a tailor, since you earn money from killing things rather than from making clothing. As far as your tailoring, you seem to be a piece of equipment (clothing crafting machine) owned and paid for by your guild by the sound of it. So that makes you very different from most other tailors. So just realize that when you contribute to such discussions.
