Thread: Ridiculous pricing??

hakk,
cool, if that's what's fun for ya, do it, just don't expect a lot of love from fellow tailors if you are selling to the public (and not just your guild) at cost. To me that makes you a mercenary, not a tailor, since you earn money from killing things rather than from making clothing. As far as your tailoring, you seem to be a piece of equipment (clothing crafting machine) owned and paid for by your guild by the sound of it. So that makes you very different from most other tailors. So just realize that when you contribute to such discussions.

owned and paid by my guild?Perhaps I have to explain more...My guild Is not a PVP Guild where your profession is decided by the leader. We are a small guild and we dont even have a city. And the reason I also make money killing things is causei want to. I like tailor really much but I also want to be a combat profession so i can playa part in the GCW. And ifi getcredits while leveling pistoleer, great! But it sounds to me that youwant me tonotaccept the credits.
This is how i price my clothing and I want to know what you all think about it: (Copied from the FAQ)

Hakk, those prices are stupid. Selling at raw resource buy price is absurd, unless of course you're NOT a tailor but a pistoleer who sells clothes that is. I'd try to explain it to you, but for over a year people like you have come here with the "i only tailor for fun and price accordingly" and you wouldn't listen or understand anyway.

I'd guess 10cpu straight across the board rounded to the nearest 500 increment... It's still a little on the cheap side but hopefully not so cheap as to make the pricing dictators as mad at ya... (Disclaimer to the pricing dictators: that's not the way I price, btw, but merely an answer to the question asked
)
- Your time
- Maintenence and power on a factory which is used to make clothing (many of those resources have been run through a factory)
- Maintenence on your structures (you want to have a nice shop, right?)
- A profit so you can buy pretty things. Yes, this is a business, this is where income comes from. Breaking even is not the goal.
- Resources consumed doing "redos", crit fails, things that don't sell, etc
- Once people find out that your prices are below market, you may not be able to keep up with demand
- If you price cheaply, some customers will treat you cheaply. Not very nice, but it happens
So you see, there are a lot of factors that go into this. And those factors also deserve money. To value clothing just on what raw materials are worth misses a lot of what goes into tailoring.
Having said that, you price in a way where you feel comfortable with the prices you quote to the customer, but also don't overburden yourself.

What is problematic about the 3 c/p/u and 5 c/p/u figures is that this is what raw materials go for on the open market. You're not just selling raw materials. Here are other factors that need to be considered:
Note: this is just an example of pricing. It may seem way too high or way too low to some tailors.

There are two considerations: screwing over other tailors and your own workload. Ultimately, your own workload is more important. After all, there is a tailor shortage, and we don't want you to burn out and quit tailoring
Good luck
