Thread: Devs: We can't make new clothes, it's too hard!

Anyone sick of this excuse yet?

I'm refering to this:
At Fanfest, the devs said that clothing is the most difficult thing to add to the game and that it's a large reason for the lag in the system.

I've never heard that excuse before.

I've always assumed (and rightfully so i might add) that adding new clothing just isn't a high priority. There are several broken professions (Squad Leader and Ranger come to mind). There are others that need some real content added due to their iconic Star Wars persona (Smugglers need to smuggle stuff). On top of that, they've got an expansion coming out in November. They've also got a mountain of bug fixes to address.

Personally, I'd love to see new clothing added (other than just placed on NPCs), but as a whole, there are many other things the dev team should focus on first. Don't worry, our day in the sun will come eventually. and besides, we've still got a huge catalog of clothing we can create.

Haven't heard that one. The new expansion will have new clothing in the form of the new Jedi robes in it. That statement could be changed to "We can't fix it because we don't know how we broke it though" !

I'm with Oreet on this one. I figure, our day will come, it's just a matter of time until all the more needy professions get their revamps. I mean, we have our share of bugs, but we actually have a lot of clothing we can craft, and we actually WORK. Smuggies, Commandos, Rangers, Squad Leaders... they need the fixes first.

way off topic here, but i gotta say, after reading the info about the Ranger Revamp, i'm really excited to check this new stuff out.

I read on more than one occasion, probably over on the dancer boards and the ID boards, that "character avatars are the hardest thing that the Developers can work on. It's extremely difficult to make new looks, hairstyles and clothing."

Sorry about that fellas, I thought that was the #1 excuse. You'll have to understand I have an alternate as a tailor, my main is a Jedi, so I sometimes come out of the flamewar that thread is. I apologize for carrying some of it here.

It's quiet here. I kind of like that.

But we could use some new clothing with the expansion.

Seeing as new clothing schematics are so low on the priority list, I wonder if there is any way to make suggestions on what schematics we'd like to see that would actually be stored for later consideration. I have a wookiee friend who wants some bib overalls, a tie-dyed shirt and a straw hat.

Yeah, I am the Fish-Wookiee / I don't live in a bowl, man, I'm up in a tree - yeah
I am the Wookiee-Fish / I rip off both your arms if you question me bish! - hey
Give you a big wet lick / That's how we say hello back on ol' Kashyyyk - I
Let out a Wookiee Roar / Makes me feel so good, gonna do it some more
Yeah!

Completely understandable. Since we can ID ourselves to be very tiny or very huge, and there are several speices, i'd imagine making new clothing that would look right on everyone would be a huge pain to do.

Welcome to anywhere other than the Jedi boards. I don't think any of the replies were meant as flames. Personally, i was just stating why i think we are low on the list of priorities. That being said, i really do wish we had alot more clothing to make.

Maybe a little too quiet.

Personally, I would run to California and huggle every Dev if they would just make Nightsister elite quests for their clothing.

And add hair/tattoo/other limited use schmatics for ID's. Wouldn't that be cool??

i love the idea of the ID schemes especially.

maybe make some sort of super-ultra-mega-nearly impossible quests that when it's all said and done, the Mad Scientist you were working for gives you a copy of his research. You then take the research to an Image Designer, who them discovers the ultra-mega-super rare formula that can enable an Image Designer to reassign your species type. This could be a single-use crafting schematic that requires ultra rare resources to craft the elixar that is then using during the Image Design process to reassign your species. Maybe even include some normally unplayable species such as Chiss, Gungan, Devorian to name a few. Although all the smart players would realize just how great s are, and will all change their species to Rodian.

LOL... I never thought about that, but that's also a great idea. I was just thinking of like rare skin tones, eye colors, hair styles, virtually anything really. What a great way to enhance the ID profession. Tailor would be right in there too, with rare schematics.

yeah, think about it, if i can turn osmeone into a Gungan through the use of modern science, Tailors would then have a demand for Gungan Specific gear. and the Armorsmiths would too.

it would also help increase the diversity of players.

it also is a way to help the pre-JTL characters who might want to wear those stylin' threads that Ithorians get.

It does take a lot of work to make new clothes for avatars. It can be done, though, and done fairly well, but the Art and Modeling teams keep getting dragged off the Live game to produce Expansions.

I just wish there were some way to talk to the Expansion teams to get them to realize that crafters *really really* are hurting with the *lack* of new craftables.

The development teams are focusing too much on the KAE and AKE type players, and practically ignoring the AES, ESA, EAS, ASE, SEA and SAE type players. This is going to hurt them in the long run, because we're the ones who stick with games we like, while the KAE and AKE players move on to whatever the "latest and greatest" game is.
