Thread: Devs: We can't make new clothes, it's too hard!

LOL... I never thought about that, but that's also a great idea. I was just thinking of like rare skin tones, eye colors, hair styles, virtually anything really. What a great way to enhance the ID profession. Tailor would be right in there too, with rare schematics.
I'm all for more ID content, but that sounds awful. I don't want to see bright pink humans ever. As it stands we get pallets of 256 colors per variable, depending on species. If they allowed black skin for Zabs, you'd see a jump in the number of Darth Maul wannabes.
The thing about the special serum is also not very appealing. I do hair. Why in the world would I figure out a process to change a species? IDs change superficial aspects of a character. Give stuff like that to the real scientists. (If at all. I'm against species changes.)
I would really like to see more new hairstyles/marking patterns that people would actually wear. And though there are a lot of broken professions, I'd love to see some new clothes. There was some hot stuff from Episode III.
Oreet, you are arguing semantics. What does something being "too hard" really mean when coming from a developer? It means that they don't want to invest the timeit will take to do it, i.e. it's not their top priority. So in fact, you and Esta are saying the exact same thing.
Note: usually when you are constructing an argument, you don't say things like "rightfully so I might add" to your own argument, lol. That is for others to judge is it not?
Anyways, in terms of my take on this, it's really pretty simple. After your initial purchase of the SWG game, and you start paying your monthly dues, you have a pretty reasonable expectation that additional content will be added that will enhance your gameplay. And crafters have been let down in a very big way when it comes to this. It's not a "tailor thing" specifically, it's true of all crafting professions. Personally this is why I started out as a crafter and gave it up, and now do the combat-thing exclusively. I got sick and tired of SOE taking my monthly fee, and using it to enhance other people's play but not mine. It really isn't fair, but at least we do have a choice about what we do. Sooner or later, one way or another, we'll all be J3di, lol.

I just find it hard to believe it's so "hard" to make clothing when Ithorians have a whole new wardrobe. Seemed pretty effortless to me...? If it's an expansion thing, why not include new clothing etc with the new expansion?
(By new skin tones earlier I obviously ment for the alien races ... not bright pink humans LOL)

Anyone sick of this excuse yet?

I've never heard that excuse before.
I've always assumed (and rightfully so i might add) that adding new clothing just isn't a high priority. There are several broken professions (Squad Leader and Ranger come to mind). There are others that need some real content added due to their iconic Star Wars persona (Smugglers need to smuggle stuff). On top of that, they've got an expansion coming out in November. They've also got a mountain of bug fixes to address.
Personally, I'd love to see new clothing added (other than just placed on NPCs), but as a whole, there are many other things the dev team should focus on first. Don't worry, our day in the sun will come eventually. and besides, we've still got a huge catalog of clothing we can create.
Me neither, but we havn't got any new clothes. But in JtL, we got an ENTIRE SET OF ITHORIAN CLOTHES.

Well Armorsmiths can't complain with all the new factional armor, R.I.S., Bounty, etc; they at least got SOME love rather than none. I don't do other classes... so I can't really care about their issues, I'm here in Tailor because I have a tailor/ID and would like to see new things.

My idea is this: Dragging bar RGB system <-- Click this link
A simply RGB system as is visible in the modified picture. To prevent lag, you can only increase or decrease RED, GREEN and BLUE with steps of 20. (Thus 0-20-40-60... 200-220-240-255). This way, the actual colours are still kept (original pallete) but the selection of them is easier to use. Above that, putting a text as "Light Bustier, 120/0/120" for this clothing piece makes it easy for any tailor to recreate it.
As a bonus, all clothes could come in the RGB pallete, to give us some new options. Example given Scarlet gunman's dusters or Skyblue two-strap bandoliers. These new variations keep players occupied for some time and the demand for new clothes would decrease.

Now THAT is an excellent idea! Wow, why haven't they done this yet? ![]()
I think I'm going to end up macroing this. ![]()
The majority of Tailors are against adding experimentation or dyes.
I know in many of the FPS games, namely the Battlefield series and the counterstrike series, players have made countless models for players, clothes, weapons and even whole game mods (which counter-strike is one). Most of these player made items are better than the profesional development teams can pull off.
Would it not make sense for SOE to release some sort of source code and/or model specs so that the player base can go to town creating stuff for the game and then submit it back to SOE for review and implementation?

But then they'd have to go through every item submitted to ensure that it fit into the game. And I bet LucasArts would have to approve things too. It would take a lot of time and resources to do this, probably more than the devs have to spare. (Especially since if we get it for clothes, AS's will want it for armor, WS's for weapons, etc.)

Releasing any kind of source is a bad idea in an MMORPG. Even if it is something innocuous like character modeling someone will figure out how to use it to break the game to their advantage. The creativity and cleverness of cheaters is amazing!
