First of all, let me say that I LOVE these forums. Sometimes, like today.. I get frustrated and this is the only place I can vent where I know people will understand.

Some things may seem trivial but god at times the lack of appreciation for the work we do annoys me.

People say oh it takes you 5 mins to throw something together.. sure that's true, but what about the time going to harvesters, sorting our factories, filling vendors and dealing with unbelievably difficult customers. Like we can just make clothing magically appear without any work leading up to it, and of course.. we can read their minds too!

My question for today is, how do you all deal with guild uniforms. Do you get a relationship going with these guilds?

I have one guild I have made the uniforms for since they began.. I have gone above and beyond for them. Travelling from planet to planet to meet their members, making various different types of uniforms for them, naming everything how they want it, delivering to their PA hall etc etc.. I couldn't have provided better service for them if I had tried.

Today I went from Naboo to Tatooine to deliver an order that was sent to me while I was in bed.. I get there and what is there but another tailor's vendor. I'm thinking ok, maybe she is a member.. turns out she isn't.

I've been quite good friends with the leader of this guild, even though he has hit on me on every opportunity (he's one of those guys who hits on everything that breathes) and I tried to make sure he knew I wasn't interested in that and wanted his respect as a crafter... that I would work hard for him and his guild but I wanted thier respect in return... not his ridiculous cyber pickup lines.

I -thought- I had gained that respect until I got there today and saw them promoting another tailor. Sure, I can't stop them from buying from other tailors but to have another tailor (non guildie)with a vendor in their PA hall being promoted by them etc.. well it was a bit of a kick in the pants.

Is it wrong of me to think .. pfft.. let her do all the running around for them then... ??

I'd say no way, your in the right thinking like that, what do they expect when you put in 110% effort to help them look good as a guild and have them throw you down like a sack of spuds.

Im also fed up with the cyber pick up lines. I even tell them that I am a guy behind this character and then they say why did u choose a female character if u were a guy. Simple answer really. I'd rather look at a female than a male when playing or I say Why did you choose bothan then instead of human (depending on which race they are) that usualy shuts them up.

This is a strange situation. I think part of the problem is that people, especially group hunters/PvPers, just tend not to realize that the majority of interaction we have with other players in this game takes the form of dealing with our customers. Obviously, as we're playing an online game, we crave interaction and this is one of the few ways we get it.

Because they don't understand this, they can't really grasp why we get all up in arms over things like respect, customer loyalty, and professionalism. They wouldn't be upset if one of their hunting buddies grouped up with someone else while they were away, they reason, so why would their tailor be upset if they started working to actively support someone else?

On a side note, I salute you for doing uniforms to begin with, much less devoting that much service to the buyers. I can't stomach them at all. Aside from the tedium of making dozens of the exact same items (like I don't get enough of that stocking my vendor), the idea of a whole group of people all wearing the same thing - regardless of race, gender, height, body type, etc. - just makes me cringe. Uniforms, people? Seriously, there's no one outfit that's going to look best on all of you. Let us dress you each individually, and your "uniform" can be just looking better than everyone else!

The exception is, of course, Catholic Schoolgirl Uniforms. Everyone looks great in those, especially wookiees.

well I have tried to add some spice to their uniform, basically keeping the same colors but with various combinations of clothing so they can look unique while having common uniform colors as well.

I'm glad to hear that people would feel the same way because while I was burning inside I also felt sort of petty because like you said, hunters and non-crafter type people don't really understand.

Oh well, on the bright side I don't have to run around trying to satisfy them anymore.. but I must say I enjoyed having them come to me and feeling like a contribution to their guild even though I wasn't a member.

Plito, I forgot.. on the topic of the pickup lines etc, I couldn't agree more. I am a female in RL and while (like any woman) I love attention and affection nothing .. and I mean NOTHING turns me off more than some gamer boy giving me some line thinking he's just the cats meow. I mean what kind of halfwits fall for this stuff? <Groans and rolls her eyes> I have even stated in my biography for them not to bother but it doesn't stop them. I am flirty by nature, but harmless flirty.. not that "come get me big boy" kind of flirty haha

I think my next step will be pretend-lesbian ice-queen.. but I dunno, I've been hit on by female chars in game as well and who knows who is behind them.

Not to hijack (and no, absolutely you're not wrong to think that way - let her handle them), but I've gotten to the point I don't even notice the little wannabe cassanovas anymore. It's just automatic for me now, don't play along, smile and purposely make sure the next thing I say to them is back to the subject at hand - their clothes. Unless they're particularly dense, they get the point.

I didn't even realize how often it happened until I was working on the little extra shop I set up in my husband's mall the other day. After the third or fourth customer he came in to ask me if I get hit on like that all the time, and was suprised the answer was yes. It wasn't a jealousy thing, just more a realization for him of how ridiculous some of the guys out there playing the game can be. Unfortunately, it's not all kids either. There's some I know that do this to every female character they meet, and yet I know enough about them to know they are, irl, married or fathers or both.

I'm a guy in RL, and a harmless flirt by nature. (I like getting a girl to smile, and long ago quit thinking with any part of my anatomy that would want more than that.) The interesting thing for me is that I've picked up a secondary character that I play on Wanderhome. I made the character female, because I had an interesting role-playing idea.

Playing her, I'd noticed something very unusual. About 30-40% of the players that I tip for training give me the tip right back. This doesn't happen with my male character on Valcyn... ever.

Several years ago, a friend's girlfriend (now his fiance') told me something. When a girl wants to go out for the night, she only needs $10. She should never have to buy a drink past her first one. Appearently, this is true.

I sort of have the reverse problem. I guess you could say I "flirt" with my female customers, but it's really tame and generally polite stuff. I consider it part of my job, to some extent; it's part of the sales pitch, you just have to tell a woman she looks good in the clothes you just sold her.

I think most of them understand it's just idle flattery and don't pay it much mind, but every now and then one gets a bit frisky. Let me tell you, it's much harder to find a polite way to tell someone you aren't interested in that sort of thing when you were the one who initiated the flirting to begin with.

Of course, I'd never complain about them flirting back, it's just the ones who actually expect it to go somewhere I don't know how to handle...

It isn't actually being female itself that causes the problem. My first online gaming character was female, and I never had a problem. I soon realised why. A lot of people assumed I was really a male RL because of two things: I dressed in unisex clothing/armour, rather than female specific skimpy-wear. And I rarely, if ever, used giggle/smile emotes. Instead I used grin/laugh. This was apparently a male thing to do, so people didn't try and flirt. It was a nice theory on their part, but as I am female, it was a very wrong theory. Not that I minded, as it meant they left me alone.

To test my theory, I started a new character. Dressed her in skimpy clothing, and made sure to use emotes like *smiles* instead of *grins*. Nothing else was different. I said the same sorts of things, and was the same player. Suddenly I appeared to become a female player again, and got people trying to chat me up every five minutes or so in a crowd. I also started to see the free things offered and all sorts, which I never had with my first character (I used to think people were exegerating when they said they got free things as a female, as it hadn't happened to me).

My SWG character is a zabrak, dark skinned and no hair, and a fairly square-set face. I designed her purposefully this way to go more with the zabrak having a hard existance idea. Dressed in combat style clothing, she has an overall harsh edge to her appearance. It's the same as my first game character... virtually no flirting, and no freebies either. I'm sure that were I to dress in a skimpy outfit, the freebies and flirting would start up.

It's a good example of the importance of appearance. People tend to think of their clothes as just making them look a bit different, but it can effect how people treat you a lot. Now all those combat types will be in the skimpy bikinis hoping for free credits... *grins*

On the server I play its the opposite. I do NOT wear feminine skimpy wear and usualy wear clothig that covers me neck-down.But for some reason, not sure why, I was pegged as the only real female on test center.

It was like...because I didn't dress down and act like the generic redlight vampirella, they though I was a real girl cause only men(boys) who did that to their female avatars. I guess its an extreem theory to keep them from accidentaly hitting on a crossgender player but it still struck me as a wierd notion.

Well I dress like a woman but I don't run around in fleshwraps etc .. especially now that I am no longer a dancer.

I have heard the same thing, that you can always tell the "shemales" because they are the ones that are tall with the huge boobs and bright makeup with really skimpy clothing.haha I wonder how much truth there is to that.

I've also noticed that people seem to assume that any female avatar with a combat profession is being played by a male. There's an unmistakably sexist notion that "real" women are "supposed" to play entertainers, medics, or crafters.

Which is pretty stupid, because the baddest PvPer I know on any of the servers I play on is very much female. Everyone assumes she's male automatically, maybe so their pride isn't hurt quite so bad when she runs roughshod over them...
