Thread: How do you get time for yourself?

I am a busy tailor, and I love the buisness but sometimes I want some time to myself to explore and do other things. How do you politely tell customers that youNEED a day off? I hardly ever refuse anyone but I find that leaves little time for myself and other interests.

a start is to make your char unsearchable, and turn off your tailor tag... but if it's your clientel who know your name, asking nicely is about all you can do.

Man ... what a timely question!

Wrestling with the same thing myself ... setting myself as anon and unsearchable doesn't work since way too many folks know me by name around my home town. So the only way I can get rest is to fly to another planet like Rori or Talus and go anon/unsearchable and chill there

Remove your tailor tag, and put up an AFK that states that it is your day off from tailoring and when you will return. Something like:

I am taking a much needed day off from tailoring. Please e-mail any requests and I will return tomorrow. Thank you for your consideration and patience.

I play a second character. When I'm ready to tailor, I usually have email orders waiting.

This is something that's really gotten to me lately, too.

Most of my regulars are really sweet about that. I did have one guy justyesterdaydemand that I return to Naboo from the wilds of Yavin IV to make him a coat. A coat that I promised him repeatedly was available on my vendor. He told me that he didn't want to run all the way out to my shop, he wanted me to meet him in Theed. I sent him an email with the names and waypoints to2 other Naboo tailors that might be able to help him. He kept speed-telling me with things like "u meanyr not coming?!?" and "**edit**?!!!!" while I was incombat and couldn't reply, until I finally lost it and replied that he may want to go ahead and contact one of the other people I told him about to do all of his clothes from now on. I got one reply full of cursing before he went on my ignore list.

But how do you handle those people who are nice, but just won't leave you alone? I'm not talking about folks with clothing requests, I'm talking about those customers who just want to chat all the time. It's a little inconvenient when I'm juggling orders, and it's even kind of an intrusion on my down-time. Maybe it's just me, but I'm really picky about who I have long, drawn-out chats with every time I log on. Sometimes it's nice, but I'm just not always in the mood for socializing with strangers when I'm trying to do something else.

Most of my good RL friends play this game, and they live across thecountry so we actually use our PA chat to keep up. So even when I'm not working on orders, I'm chatting with my friends and the one guy we met in-game that we kind of adopted. Obviously I don't mind the quick checking in "hey, what's up" type tells, I love hearing from people. But I have 3 customers who won't leave me alone. They try to chat with me the entire time we're on together. I feel rude if I just ignore them, so I try to stick to short replies, reply very slowly, and then explain to them how busy I am at the moment. Sometimes it works, but sometimes they'll just reply to me a few minutes later to check and see if I'm free yet. It's not that I don't like those guys, they're all really nice and I enjoy seeing them from time to time. But they're just so... needy. And it's wearing me out!

I have taken 2 days off from tailoring one was for a party that I attended the other was an ingame fishing date. Both of those times I put my afk flag up asking them to email me with orders or questions. People have been very understanding about it.

It's hard to say no but sometimes you have to=).

Taking off the tag, going anon and making myself unsearchable does NO good! Half the flipping galaxy has me on friends list, the other half just try /tell Nalinya hey u there?

ARRGGGHHHHH!!!!

Of course now that it looks like I'm going to have to master merchant to keep my vendors (and therefore keepa good portion of my customers happy), I don't have skills to go do anything else.

Guess I just sit in my shop, deal with customers (the good, the bad and the ugly) until either hell freezes over or I burn out.

Yeah same here, wouldn't mind a few more people pestering me either Got the shop fully stocked, put up a few adverts in the bazaar, and my shop is still so quiet you can hear a pin drop.
