I usually put on the AFK sign, where l wrote that l didn't take any more orders and needed to relax. The customers accepted that and mailed me instead.

Thats why ive taken time off before i hit master tailor to go do other stuff...though i have such poor combat skills, i usually just get frustrated and make more clothes....its a vicious cycle.

I think this will improve as more Master Tailors surface.. I am based in Nashal, and I just got Master Tailor, and yes, I'm starting to get pretty swamped with orders, but I know it's nothing compared to what it's like on the populated planets.. /giggle.. Anyone on Valcyln with too many customers feel free to send some my way, I'm not overworked just yet..

This is why I don't tell people that I'm a master tailor. I just like to make clothes for myself and spend the rest of my time hunting. So I leave my Novice Sharpshooter tag up and make my character anon. If any of my friends refer people to me, I just refer them to another tailor.

I know this is not the solution for most of you. But I had been wondering if I should start up a business, and after seeing these posts, I don't think I will.

They try to chat with me the entire time we're on together. I feel rude if I just ignore them, so I try to stick to short replies, reply very slowly, and then explain to them how busy I am at the moment. Sometimes it works, but sometimes they'll just reply to me a few minutes later to check and see if I'm free yet. It's not that I don't like those guys, they're all really nice and I enjoy seeing them from time to time. But they're just so... needy. And it's wearing me out!

It's all about boundaries. If someone's a customer, then they should realise that this is your business and time spent talking to them is time you're not making money. It should be a treat, not a prerequisite. For those that you consider friends, they should be able to accept the fact that you've got things to do. Yes, it's a game, but you have to explain to them that you need time and space to do your job effectively. I doubt anyone would mind in real life if you said, "I'm at work right now, I'll call you back later."

And finally: If you've got a massive backlog of orders, just start referring to other Tailors. Honestly, if you've got that many orders, you're not hurting for money.

Of course, you just deal with the jerks any way you see fit. I usually briefly engage in some verbal sparring with a few witty retorts, then send them on their way. If that doesn't work /ignore does wonders.

I wish I had that problem..

Right now, its difficult to find people to buy my wares.. perhaps I need to move closer to town....

Yes you may lose some business but the few weeks up to Master and into I was swamped with orders/tells. Logging on forhours at a time and not even leaving my store was just not my cup of tea, so I not limit my crafting time so it suit me. I do orders and restocking during the day and at night I hit the dance floor! I leave all my crafting things at home and most people are learning that unless I am in my shop I wont be dropping everything to craft. There are exceptions and many times I have broken my rule and hopped back home to do a fitting but only when I feel like it..on my terms.

Tailoring is a great profession but it is time consuming and if your not careful can feel like a chore, Iam starting to enjoy myself more now and still running a successful business.

I made a nice little afk note that I use now.

My only fear is that no one will come back if I turn them away... which is why I hardly ever say no.

If they love your work, your prices and your attitude they will come back hun...they will understand you need a life outside of crafting. It's alot of work gathering resources and making your way up that ladder, and if you don't take breaks when you need them you will get burned out totally. So let them know you NEED a break, if they can't handle it they will go elsewhere but others will stick with ya until you are ready to craft more.

I don't get this alot, unless I am in a cantina *boggle* so I steer clear of them and put my shop outside the lake retreat =p

I NEED to go on vacation for a day, it's been insane again lately for me, since I've opened my second shop.

I was one of the first 5 or 6 master tailors on Eclipse so I'm pretty well known on my server.

Last time I took a vacation I changed my AFK to have my store location and said I am on another planet killing small anmials and can not reply at this time, if you would like to place an order please mail me item/color and I will place it on my vendor when I get back.

Then I just didnt reply to anyone I didnt want to, or if I did it was to say sorry Im fighting on Lok right now I cant talk, mail me if you have an order please.

And my afk was so big it would fill their whole spatial chat box so they would give up pretty quick muahaha

Set up an AFK message. That can filter out a lot of people after the first tell.

Create a chat box that doesn't have Instant Messages turned on.

And my personaly favorite:

/r I'm very busy right now. If it's important, mail me, if not, shoo!

Got that one on a macro hotkey so I can hit it while in combat.
