Merchant Vendor Changes now on TC
TH's post here
As you know, on August 6th, we put some preliminary changes to the Vendors on Test Center. These changes are part of the commodity server enhancements that we have pushed out. We apologize for any anxiety you may have experienced, but I’m glad to announce we’ve been able to make some good changes to the Vendor limits. While we can’t make the Vendor limits aggregate, we have doubled the number of Vendors merchants can acquire and also increased the amount of Artisan Vendors.
The revised Vendor limits are as follows:
Artisan Business III: Get (1) Vendor, that will hold (100) items, for a total of (100) items for all vendors
Artisan Business IV: Get (2) Vendor, that will hold (100) items, for a total of (200) items for all vendors
Merchant Novice: Get (3) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (750) items for all vendors
Merchant Management I: Get (4) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (1000) items for all vendors
Merchant Efficiency I: Get (5) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (1250) items for all vendors
Merchant Management II: Get (6) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (1500) items for all vendors
Merchant Efficiency II: Get (7) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (1750) items for all vendors
Merchant Management III: Get (8) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (2000) items for all vendors
Merchant Efficiency III: Get (9) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (2250) items for all vendors
Merchant Management IV: Get (10) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (2500) items for all vendors
Merchant Efficiency IV: Get (11) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (2750) items for all vendors
Master Merchant: Get (12) Vendors, that will hold (250) items, for a total of (3000) items for all vendors
These look better! A lot better! 3000 items instead of 660. I still voiced an opinion on the following 2 issues:
1. Tailors, in order to keep prior stock, will have to use all 12 vendors! That will be annoying and take a lot of space - it's very inconvenient to break up clothing into micro-categories. I'm still pushing for aggregate limits (though I understand those might involve technical difficulties) so that the 3000 items can be spread on 12 vendors or all on 1 vendor.
2. As a global issue, this puts too many "goodies" in efficiency (20% reduction, tents, and now 7 vendors). I realize that as tailors we're pleased as punch to only have to take one line of merchant for the majority of the goodies, but from a balance point of view, it borks the merchant profession.
Overall, I think these changes make being a tailor more workable, and may not even have an impact on many tailors. Comments?

I'm somewhat relieved, but certainly not happy. How much of an effect this will have is strictly dependent on what kind of template you have and what your play style has been up until now, and still this just amounts to a reduction in our gaming service(as I pointed out in the *ding dong* thread) while giving us nothing in return.
Effect on me: must get rid of 500 items (combined) in my 2 vendors
must stop crafting for a month while my vendors are overloaded
must run a shop stocked with 500 fewer items than before going forward.
Am I happy? no, certainly not.

Arthur, while I understand your problem, it stems from a different and equally nasty issue - namely the ungodly skill point suck from BE. That really seriously needs to be addressed.
What I'm hoping for is that eventually merchant becomes a viable profession in itself (via consignment sale tools), and we can all choose to use an independent merchant instead of sell our own wares. Until then, yeah, the system is borked, and we're forced to invest in merchant skill boxes even if we would much rather have someone else run the shop.

Personally, this is fine now. I was worried with the old limits. The new one's won't hurt me, but they may if my business picks up alot. I'll deal with that when it happens, tho.

Unfortunately it also means that if you want to keep your old stock you need to master merchant. I really can't do that so I will just have to make due with whatever I can manage. I understand that the game doesn't revolve around me, so I will figure out how to keep going. Most likely I will just stock BE clothes and have the vendor bark out to email me special orders if you want other clothes. I will probably also spam the starports and the trade chat channel. It is sad it comes to this, but apparently it is what we are supposed to do if we want to do anything other than tailoring.

I also just read, although a second hand quote, that they're upping Master Merchant only cap to 300 per vendor. Definately a number I was hoping for, although the 250 plus 6 more vendors was nice too.../swoon!
This makes me happy. When I owned 10 vendors (split up between 2 accounts with merchant ugh what a pain to restock), it was just lovely having my vendors spread out by category. I'll be able to do that again, all owned by 1 toon woot, plus if I go through with my AS pursuit, I'll be in heaven with vendor usage.
Now, the REAL problem is...redoing all my pretty vendors yet again! Pretty sad when my guild tells people not to bother me on the few occasions I've had to remake all my vendors, because they know how I am. I sell clothes, so I'll be darned if my vendors are horrific looking. I spend literally 4-5 hours per vendor making them over and over until I get the best 1 I can live with for each. Yeah, I'm a nut. So, 12? /cancels work for 2 weeks to make vendors

Just my 2 cents:
This system allows you to have most of the merchant goodies by investing in only 1 line: efficiency. With eff 4 you get tents, 20% reduction and 7 vendors x250 items =1750 items. Now I may be a slacker, but the highest I ever got my stock to was around 1200 items. I understand that there are some tailors with a playstyle that mandates 3000+ stock, but I would have to say that an average tailor could run an adequate business with a limit of 500, and definitely could run a really booming business with a limit of 1500. It may be inconvenient but it's not IMPOSSIBLE like a 300 total item limit would have been.
Back in the day when I did a long tailoring poll (argh lemme find that link) - well I never tallied ALL the results, because I became corre and had way too much to do, but it seemed that the average vendor stock hovered around 500. Times may have changed since then, though.
I don't like the limits and I don't think they are ideal. They still force tailor to take on more merchant skills than any other profession because we have more stock. However, I think these limits are at least workable, and won't force our entire community out of business.

I think these new limits I could easily live with. I have never stocked more than 1500 items at once (lol now I wish I never stocked that much, had 100's items falling off to the stock room the other night
).
I just have one question. Maybe I'm tired and not understanding this, but if I go up just Eff IV, I get 11 vendors 250/vendor, 2750 limit, right? So I would not need any in Management to get these limits. Am I crazy in thinking that unless someone wants one more vendor and 250 more items, that Master Merchant still won't be worth the skill point cost? Or am I having a blonde moment (even though I'm not blonde LOL
) It just seems to me that I would have to invest in both lines to achieve that limit, not just going up one line.

No. I think they are reasonable, but it will be hard on me personally. Right now I have 2 tailor shops and I should really shut one of them down. It will be sad to do since it is the oldest continually running shop on Lowca, but to tell the truth, it has not done very good business for a long time. I am also a master weaponsmith, so I have to be able to sell weapons. I can probably make due with just one vendor there, though. Its not my first profession. Finally I have a special guild only vendor with lots of little sundries like repair kits and crafting tools that people in the guild need. This one will probably have to go. I might ask the guild leader to put them on the main vendor at full price and then just tip back the money.

As I understand it each box in efficiency and each box in management grants an additional vendor. So eff 4 = 7 vendors = 1750 items.
