Thread: Art Team: What Tailors Want (v 2)
Hello all, I was asked if I would be willing to pull the good ideas from the thread called Art Team: What Women Want by Ood_Bnar (aka Jake Rodgers, SWG Art Director). I was and did, and a very large section was devoted to requests for new tailor schematics and tailor wish list items that were art or UI related. I sent the document in on September 12th, highlightingthe most requested in red on the original (such as more shoes and hooded cloaks). The top section of this post is what I originally sent in, and the addendum part was gleaned from the tailor forum after September 12th. I'm keeping them separate in case I ever get the ok to forward more ideas to the art team.
Compiling this list was VERY time consuming. PLEASE read through what I have put together so far and only add ideas that are not already listed. Vandessa asked if I would be willing tomaintain a wish list thread and I jumped on it! Many excellent ideas have come up in schematic wish list threads on our tailor forum! Especially big cheers toRaijen, who contributed the bulk of the "from the movies" section and Anabelle, whose bathing suit section I directly cut and paste ![]()

Graphics/UI wish list
- GUI - Add coloring number system – Issue: Very difficult to match clothing another tailor has made; Solution: In examine window for clothes, have it note using numbers which colors were used; Have number pop up when mouse is held over color palette

- New Colors - Master tailors say they have no true yellow, teal, or pure red, and that many items cannot be made in pure black (see simple vest) or white (see muscle shirt); Tailors would like many of the dingy colors removed and more bright colors added, or just more bright colors added.

- More patterns – Plaid; Polkadots; Pinstripes
- Holo-imager – For Tailors – Vendor would have an option to allow customer to see how they would look while wearing the selected item
- Ability to sell a group of clothing as an “outfit” on vendor/bazaar - Tailor would choose “outfit” option and be able to put an outfit’s worth of clothing for sale as an entity; Clothing could still count individually for bazaar count; Many tailors take great time and effort putting together outfits that get bought up seperately or not noticed.
- Decals – Of swg objects to be pasted on chest or back of clothing
- Special dyes - Rare drop glowing dyes, glittering dies, transluscent fabric
Addendum, our ideas post Sept 12th
Schematics wish list
- Bathing Suits - For both men and women. While we can use some exisiting pieces for this (hot pants, bikini tops) the ones we have appear to be in materials that would be largely unsuitable for actual swimming (leather, metal...) Having some different options, in different textures with more a rubber/latex/wetsuit sort of look to them. This would be a great area to introduce more patterns also
- Jackets - Short formal jacket to be worn over dresses(example - Spencer Jacket: www.costumes.org/history/leloir/spencer1801.jpg); Tight-fitting, slimmer version of the duster for females; All jackets should scale down slimmer for females, especially around the shoulders
- Clothing denoting rank – Cloth armbands; Rank insignia (bars/stripes/stars) on jacket front, collar, and/or shoulders; Distinguishing Rebel vs Imperial
- Unisex dancer clothes – Ballet shoes; Leotard w/ top linked to shorts where midriff and back are bared; Sleeveless leotard with legs to ankle
- PA Insignias – Provide symbols, colors, and patterns that can be combined by the tailor into pa hall flags and/or pa jacket/cape/cloak insignias
- Packs – Plain canvas pack with full cloth color palette

- Extended Universe (www.starwars.com) - Komari Vosa’s layered leather top, leather bikini leggings, and thigh length boots
Some of these items I really have problems with...
Cowboy hat
Fedora
Beanie
Rebel flight helmets (Should NOT be a common headwear)
Biker Jacket
Hooded Cape
Trenchcoat w/ collar
Costume; Bandit; Zorro; Eye-patch; Ski mask; Visors; Ninja; Wedding veils
Nose Rings
Navel Rings
Toe Rings (far too much detail for the character models / unnoticable)
All of the Natalie Portman Wardrobe ( I feel that it would be ridiculous if everyone could look like royalty)
All of the Jedi / Sith clothing (Doesn't belong on commoners)
I feel that these items either
- Lack a Star Wars feeling
- Would harm the feeling of the game
- Just don't belong
Just my opinion, but the above items I would not include.
Some more odd requests I've picked up here and there:
Blindfold: I had a Teras Kasi customer who was on some kind of Daredevil kick and was very disappointed that Star Wars technology hadn't advanced enough to create a simple strip of cloth he could wrap over his eyes. Obviously a very specialized piece, but it'd give us something simple to put in the vast, empty Eyewear category that wouldn't upset the CE people.
Handcuffs, Manacles, Shackles, etc.: As an equippable item (like a fishing rod) that replaces weapon and causes a difference in the way the character animates, not as gloves. There was a big role-playing event at one point about some slave getting kidnapped by Imperials or something of that nature, and I'm sure they could've gotten some great mileage out of something like this.
Racial Items: For virtually every race. For example, some kind of beads or other items wookiees could use to braid their fur, with several variations; loose braids with bones braided in for the warrior look, tight braids with beads or even gemstones for female wookiees/ceremonial purposes. "Scale spikes" Trandoshans can wear on their exposed hands and feet. Twi'leks are the easiest to design specialized items for, we know, but a little effort to give something to the rest of us would be met with big appreciation.
Ethnic Clothing: I know this is a sticking point for some people, but the fact is that Lucas's fictional cultures were, like those of basically any writer, heavily influenced by real-life ones. Virtually every item already in the game can be traced back to certain ethnic roots if you really care to try, so I can't see much reason not to go whole-hog here. African tribal wear, ancient Egyptian style headdresses/jewelry, martial arts gis and kendo skirts, etc., etc. If there's nothing in the game like it at the current time, it's probably worth adding.
Bejeweled headdresses for all races. Medieval style jeweled/beaded headpieces/skullcaps, both long and short versions. Jeweled-chain headpieces. Matching necklaces, chokers, torqs, collars, wrist cuffs...
Alphonse Mucha styleheadpieces are anexcellent example. Dresses and accessory jewelry as well.

The only other schematics that I would mention are a mid-length pleated skirt which comes to the top of the knee. I saw a mention of a short pleated skirt, but I would like to see something which is shorter than the current skirts, but not something that looks like it comes from a cheerleader uniform. Anyway, its a classic skirt style so I was amazed it isn't already in the game. I would also like to see hair ribons. I wouldn't even mind if they had to be applied by an image designer, but I think that could be really cute. Also, were colored tights on the list? There are all sorts of things that could be done with these.
Most of those items were sent on September 12th so it's too late to not include them. Our wish listswill be picked through with a fine tooth comb for appropriateness to the universe and so I'msure a huge majority of the schematics will not see the light of day. That and who knows how much time they will appropriate for new tailoring schematics, and when. I do agree that Jedi and Sith outftis should not be wearable by random people, but it has come up in discussion in the past that artisans be able to craft what they will need, such as light sabers. It may be that Jedi, dark or light, are given a little outfit along with their FSS hehe. I don't think you have anything to worry about with Natalie Portman's clothes

my two cents
half shirts - half shirts were metioned. i would love to see a varity of these. from skin tight to loose, long and short sleeved, silky with asian style trim to thick cable knitted turtlnecks.
sleeves - just sleeves not attached to a shirt. starting at the upper or mid arm both loose and fitted. they can look tough if do tight and bulky or sexy if done gauzey and loose.
high collared vest - a sleeve-less high collared vest would be both very formal if paired with a jacket or very casual if worn alone.
and these are things that could be done with existing clothing models
allow layering - if i want to wear pants under my skirtor a jacket over my short robe, let me.
break apart outfits/dresses. one dress like the luxurious gown could be broken up into 4 items, the scarf, the gloves, the lace skirt and the corset. this would require a person to buy each piece from a tailor and would allow more mix-and-match options.
create new items by re-texturing, simplifying, and dressing up exist items while keeping the originals as they are. we know you can do it. that's why most of the pants are shaped the same but differ in pattern, and pocket/stripe size. the reveling top retextured in dewback skin, a latex shiny pair of casual pants or a bagersett striped wooly coat would be fabulous. you could dress up the short robe with a new silky texture and getting rid of the leather on it and dress down the thin pleated skirt by getting rid of the belt.
Can I be completely honest without getting a flame?
I like a lot of the ideas but I can do without the game looking anymore like a great big brothel crossed with the matrix.
And I don't want to see everybody in the game looking like queen amidala either =D
