Thread: Why is the color pallet so restricted?
If I want an Electric Blue Duster a Vivid Yellow pair of Uniform Boots, and a Lime Green Soft Undershirt, why can't I have them?
I can understand palets being restricted by tailor's skill, but if I go to a Master Tailor, s/he should be able to make anything I want in any color combination I want...

I think you can have a vivid yellow uniform boot and a lime green soft undershirt.
But you are right, the ommissionof blue from some of the more restricted leather palets is rather depressing.
Those are examples... the fact that some of those might be able to be approximated with the current pallet isn't the issue.
My questions bacicly boils down to "if I got to a Master Tailor and want a(n) [insert name of item schematic] in [insert name of color that's not in that tailor's pallet], why isn't that color available?"

Or even better an honest-to-god CMYK or RGB pallete.... easier to match colours when you can slap in numbers...
There's no reason a master tailor shouldn't be able to use their full pallete on any cloth or leather surface. Metals should be expanded, after all a good enamel will take care of that.
Perhaps we'll see this change with the elite-elite profession that was mentioned.... something to make that class stand apart.
I'd like to get +25 - 30colors at Novice Tailor, just so I can say I can actually make some better clothing, you know?
None of the extremely vivid colors, just some fresh colors to stock the showroom with.

I understand the point of restricted/varied palettes (leather clothes should look like they're made of leather, so bright colors wouldn't be realistic), but I would like to see a wider palette for generic cloth items.Even the full 255 Master palette looks kinda lame. The only truly "new" color among the missing 55 is orange; the rest are just more saturated shades of older colors.
Most of these items use *hide* not leather. How many creatures do you see in the wild on SWG that have more colors than the restricted pallet that we have now?
Right now I am a light blue mon calmari so :-p. Check out the Giant Dalyrake on Talus, it is bright red and you can get bristle hides off of it, so why can't we make bright red items from the hides? If thats the argument the devs are trying to use, they better rethink their colors for creatures.
Yeah, the schematics use hides, but honestly, the resources used have little to do with the look of the item. The point is, items that look like they're made of leather use a certain palette containing "leathery" colors. Items that look like they're made of fur oruse seperatefur and metalpalette. The vast majority of items use a larger, generic cloth palette. It's not entirely consistent with the creatures in the game, but it works well msot of the time, as far as I'm concerned.
