Thread: Strange bug: the mystery of the novice artisan socketing....

I have domestic arts and no engineering. I can run through soft undershirts until the cows come in and not get a socket, ever.

Yesterday, I made a pair of casual shoes with 1 socket. Oooo a socket, my very first. Figuring it was a 1/100 fluke, I didn't worry until I made a 2nd pair of casual shoes. 2 sockets. (The server then went down, and swearing ensued). I made 4 more pairs of shoes, and I got 1, 1, 4, 3. That's right, a 4-socket when I have zero engineering skill. I then tested it with a simple shirt (which is also novice artisan) and got 2 sockets.

So in summary: No engineering, getting many sockets (tailoring ratio) on novice artisan items, getting none on domestic arts items, and it's creepy.

If you could find it in your hearts to test this out on live and see what you come up with, that would be great. It could be TC or simply my character being bugged. Obviously, I don't want to "nerf" our novice artisansockets. But at the same time, this gives me a little inkling that maybe the new socketingcode is wonked in some way... and if it's wonked in this way, it may be wonked in other ways.

If you weren't getting sockets before and suddenly you are getting them for artisan items, maybe they are playing around with the socket code and trying to get it balanced properly. We can only hope!

It's only novice artisan items. For the rest of the DA tree I'm getting no sockets, as usual.

Hmm.... I wonder if Eimi has enough skillpoints left to test this out on live. I really hope we can get the socket code fixed.

I can do a small test of this on live. I've got too many backed up items that were waiting on an answer to the socketing question before I was even going to touch them, so I don't want to spend too much time. I don't believe I've ever gotten sockets in those items (actually I was under the impression that they just didn't have sockets before I found out that you need engineering). I'm at 0 in engineering right now.

I work saturdays so I won't be able to test it until tonight, assuming I can tear my b/f away. If not, I might not be able to try until tomorrow.

You're in luck...my alt has artisan with no points in any of the lines (I got it because I'm eventually going to get her a vendor). I'll toss her one of my clothing crafting tools and see how she does.

No biggie, just if any tailors out there happen to have no engineering ... check it out. ALso curious if just a novice artisan, period, gets the sockets (not a tailor at all). It's not a game-breaking bug/thing so I don't much care, I just thought it was odd.

I've also got no Engineering - just the full DA and Business lines, so I'll check it out.

I haven't paid a lot of attention to it either before or after the recent socketing fiasco, but I actually thought I was getting, like, 1 or 2 sockets regularly on DA stuff.

Ditto. So for me this issue is a "don't care". If they introduced a socket bug that makes us get more sockets, what are we going to do, put this in our top 5? lol

Ok, tested with both of my characters:

Milarella - Master Tailor, 0/4/4/4 Artisan

0 - 1

1 - 1

2 - 1

3 - 3

4 -4

Alanora - 0/0/0/0 Artisan

0 - 10

Edit: I really do know my character's level...no, really...

Yes, but what sort of sockets do you usually get on your domestic arts items higher up the tree? 0/10 I suspect.

Like Arthur says, it's really a non-issue, but it's just weird that socketing seems to happen only on novice artisan clothing, and not other domestic arts clothing, unless the tailor has some engineering.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't DA sockets be effected by our DA skill and not engineering?
