Thread: how much is a reasonably price for good armor padding

i can make 4% base effectiveness armor padding but it takes 900 plus oq and sr hide for both parts. and 800 plus oq and sr fiberplast for the other part. that kind of hide sells for like 40 cpu on my server which is insane and its not redily available. so with factory time i figure 50k. does that sound alright for charging or am i crazy

Some are planning to charge 100k - 150k per crate. They are paying upwards or 100cpu for good hides though

I had priced my crates of padding (which had similar resource stats) at 100K per crate of 25. (those resources on my server cost 100 cpu!)

After posting a thread in my galaxy trade forums, I got screamed at by all of the AS's for 'overcharging'...even when those same AS's are selling the wookiee armour for 300K

So, now it becomes an issue of lower the price and eat my costs, or just keep them on my vendor...this whole thing is pretty ridiculous...

I was told by a guild armorsmith not to charge less than 100cpu and try to get 200cpu for them or else they are not worth making. Wookie armor may end up being very rare if we can't get past this pricing impasse. I'm willing to sell some at the prices a lot of armorsmiths want, but they are not going to get top quality padding.

Hmmm, my current pricing is probably a little low - I'm turning out 3%'s at 400 each. I manage to get 4% ones I'll likely raise that to 500 or 600 each.

I'll simply keep my eyes open for good wooly, I refuse to pay thru the nose for ANY resources - if I can't get it and offer it at a reasonable price - I just don't deal in it. Folks wouldn't be charging 100 cpu for resources if no one was around willing to pay that price.

My problem is that people *are* willing to pay that price. If I could sell the hide for 100cpu, why should I put it into an armor padding component, experiment on it and sell it for 50cpu?

That is EXACTLY the problem with these pieces...the priceless part is the only people who are willing to pay 100cpu for the same hides are the AS's themselves! Then they turn around and tell us we are overcharging for the exact same hide...when they full well know the value of it! This is madness...

How I laughed (and the /addignored) the Armoursmith who sent me a tell last night while in coronet....

Me: Hi!

Armoursmith: You want to make a quick 25K?

Me:...(spidersense tingling...Danger WIll Robinson)...for doing what?

Armoursmith: ok I'll pay you 25k to make me 190 armour segments ok?

Me: (after recovering from laughing too hard) You supplying the resources then?

Armoursmith: er NO why? Why can't you do this? Thats a lot of money!

Me: (still laughing) Well first up, I'm charging at least 10CPU for those that makes em at least 300 per ITEM for crates of 25 thats 8k per crate you'd need almost 8 crates that's be 64k. Now secondly, making 190 is NOT QUICK! I'd need to either A: craft non stop for 3 hours to get you that many, which I'm sorry to say I'm just NOT prepared to do. Or B: head back to my factories on rori and put a run of 190 on which will take just as long if not longer....

Armoursmith 8K per crate HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Me: Okay, good luck with finding someone who'll do them as cheap or cheaper than that. Please don't come back to me unless your willing to pay me what I consider a reasonable offer for my time and resources.

Armoursmith: (proceeds to go off on a total rant about how tailors are ripping off Armoursmiths for Crated components BLAH BLAH BLAH)

Me: (after almost falling off my seat in fits of laughter) /addignore

Some people just give the Armoursmith community a bad name. Glad to say I know a good few who are the nicest people and find my pries really cheap and often tip me a HUGE sum just because I charge pretty competitive prices and am quick and courteous and deliver as long as the client is willing to pay travel costs.

But that had me laughing for a long time just think about it..25k for 190 sections....and he was thinking I was ripping HIM off.....(falls off seat laughing again)

I haven't tried to make these yet, but I know that I often go and hunt critters to get high quality hides for AS's. If they're willing to pay me 120cpu for just the hides, why make them into components and sell at less than 100cpu? Why waste my time experimenting and gathering the other resources needed, then experimenting and running them in my factory, just to loose money?

I have yet to be yelled at, but then I only make crates of components when asked, and I have only been asked 2x so far. I was asked by a townie to make her a schematic with her resources, and I have had one AS contact me since to set up an order, then he contacted me again to say the order was now "no rush" as he had found some other... at 50K per crate!!!! (I won't even mention what I had planned to charge him based on what I had paid for my resources and what I sell him synth cloth for *blush*). He is still buying his order from me.

I for one, like to see a little more inter-dependence between professions, and this is the start. I am sorry that the devs like to put so darn much emphasis on WOOLY hide tho - as of now it will be even more of a contended resource, as some of our clothes require it, and some architect items require it. Perhaps the bantha and other wooly hided creatures have booming populations. Hmmm, were the bantha missions increased?

I will set a price per crate, based on what wooly I can get in stock, if an AS doesn't like my price, they can go elsewhere, or they can bring me resources for a schematic for a small fee.

I was at the krayt graveyard with my guild last night (which is either brave or stupid since I don't have any fighting skills) and milked herd after herd of banthas so I could make taming tissues. I also got some hide, but it is not such good quality on Lowca right now.

Armorsmiths give themselves a bad name. One tailor went on my servers trade boards saying he was selling armor padding for 10k per crate. I bumped him up as a fellow tailor, because that's a great price, and I know I wouldn't sell the stuff for anywhere near that price, as I could just sell the hide resources that went into making it for 5 times as much. Then after me an armorsmith posts, saying that the price is too high and that he should price at 4-6k and sell the crates on the bazaar. Priceless. I think what's really peeving the Armorsmiths off is that they are having a hard time finding good Master Tailors who know how to experiment and will provide them with free or nearly free schematics for this, so the AS's can use their own huge stockpile of resources.
