Thread: Introduce Clothing Coloration Kits
Message Edited by Yec on 02-23-2004 06:12 AM
See, as tailors, we can't experiment. Our material quality doesn't matter. So all we really have to distinguish ourselves is our sense of style. There are all kinds of issues that colorization brings up. For example, many of us put a color name in our clothing. Colorization would make many clothing with colors in the name look a little silly, like we didn't know what we were doing. If an item we make gets recolored to a horrible color combination, then it may look as if we made it that ugly to start with since our name is on the item as creator.
Color kits for clothes are not as simple an idea as colorization kits for vehicles. We hope the devs don't rush into anything like that (hardly a danger that they'd rush anything for tailors though).

Let the kits change the "body" and "trim" color in a similar fashion that vehicle customization kits do. I'd really like to see this added.
No color kits for clothes. No. No. No.
I agree with Kara. If color kits for clothes ever came to be, they might as well take out the entire tailor profession and put the generic clothing dispensers back in the game.
If any devs are lurking about out there, I wanna make a "no" vote heard on this issue. Colorization is the heart of the tailoring profession. It's the only thing we can really do to our clothing. Just creating a blank piece of clothing that anyone can color pretty much negates my purpose of being.

Or we could have portable entertainment units, so we didn't have to go to cantinas and watch dancers and listen to music. We could have replicators for food as well. Heck... while we are at it, let's just drop everything but combat classes. That way we can just line up on each side of a battlefield and hit our combat macros.
Who needs combat characters? The NPCs and monsters can kill each other.

Ok, points taken.
Make it so only a Master Tailor can recolorize clothes. I can't see ANY tailor having a problem with that, and I'd be just as happy to pay a tailor to recolorize my suits.
How about that?
I really can't and wouldn't try to speak for anyone but myself...so.. here's my take on the above idea. I can see how you would think that master tailor's being the only ones to "recolor" items would fly. The thing is, I and I'd almost say we (again not positive) are well.. territorial is one way to put it. I do not mean out shops or our harvs or houses.. I mean our clothing. Many of us have a mark. From Kessiwear to Z's (mine) it's our tag, be it what it may.
Personally, I would be offended if another tailor "altered" my design. Not because it's MINE.. but because I put thought and a tiny bit of myself into that item. I also would refuse to color anyone else's clothing. Not because I'm too good but out of respect for my fellow tailor. Would some do it? Probably, everyone has diff play styles and some are just in it for the credits *cough* (sorry almost choked on that).
My opinion.. for what it's worth.
what if you had to take the outfit back to the tailor that made it, to get it recolored?
not that I'm for the idea, just throwing out an idea that might be acceptable for an add on provision here

Most of us (not all) would rather not get into redying clothing, or if we do make it for a very limited amount of time so we can fix mistakes or possibly dye things out of factory crates as they are pulled out. We generally like to make clothes and put together outfits. Dyeing is part of the job, but we would rather not have to recolor every time somone decides that they want to change colors for the day. Most of us would hate it if clothes with our name was redyed and looked ugly (I don't make clothes in some of these really ugly colors!). I don't want all of my nice outfits made black! Anyway, people should buy clothes when they want new ones. That is what keeps the tailor economy going right now, and after all, in real life if you want a red sweater and you have a green one, you don't go and dye it. You go to the store and buy a new one!

A very bold statement from a non-tailor telling us what we do and do not want. Hehe, well, I'm a tailor, and I have a problem with it, but I'm not going to dredge that issue up again. We've had lots of threads that discuss this in length. We also had some polls. I think the final outcome of the polls was something like: 0% in favor of customer re-coloring, 60% in favor of some sort of tailor-only recoloring (but no consensus on how that would work), and 40% in favor of no-recoloring by anyone at any time. So please don't assume that you speak for us ok? And many people make the mistake of thinking that this is about credits. It's not, it about a tailor's role in the game and whether or not we'd like to continue being tailors if our roles change. You can come here and say "wouldn't it be cool if tailors didn't/did have to..." but changing our role in the game you have to ask how that would affect US. Becuase the bottom line is, if nobody wants to play tailor, you won't be able to buy clothing anywhere, at anytime, at any price.

I've got to agree with introducing color kits for clothes. I spend more credits on clothes than anything.
And every few days, I want a different color scheme. But I donthave the inventory room to lug around 6 full outfits, along with other important items.
I absolutely do NOT think that everyone should get the option for customizing clothes though. As much as i hate having to geta Droid Engineer to change my droid's color.. and not be abe to see the color beforehand, this is a Tailor's job. Why can't they make the color interface viewable to the client too.. it would be very useful for ID also .. ? O.o
Well, theres my 2 cents. Oh yea.. should be able to change name when changin colors too, like Backpacks.
