Thread: Clothing Pricing?

Hello all fellow Tailors

I've been a Master Tailor for a few weeks now and I have a question in regards to pricing. The first day I logged in to the game I started getting several requests for clothes. I made sure I had plenty of resources on me, pulled my driod out and started making clothes on the spot as the customer waited.

When the question came up as to how much a certain piece of clothing is, my response was 'Pay what you wish as I have not had the opportunity to setup a price list yet'.

This seems to be very effective and my clients have not had a problem with paying. I continue to use this method and so far I have not had a problem with this.

Does anyone else use this method?

And no, incase anyone asks, I do not make BE enhanced clothes yet. I have yet to find a Bio Enginner on my server that I can get crates of tissue from...Very very annoying

Anyway I just wanted other Tailors thoughts on this.

So in other words you work for tips... owch. No, I definitely don't do that, and in fact that can't really work if you have a vendor. Sooner or later you'll have to adopt some pricing. Although I'd say about 75% of the time I make clothing "face-to-face" with someone I receive a tip on top of what I tell them the price is.

I've also learned that customers like to know what the price is, and that they're being somehow treated "fairly" (meaning that they're getting charged what your other customers are being charged). There have been times that people havebought like 20 items over the course of a half hour session, face-to-face, and at the end of that they'd ask how much, and I hadn't been totalling it up, so I'd say "oh, I think around 50k or whatever" and then they have reacted negatively to that. So I've since learned that even if you have lost track, and are just pulling a number out of thin air, better to do that with conviction, then to try to pass the pricing burdon onto the customer.

I've always used Nivia's pricing guide (sorry, I don't seem to have a link to it, and she closed down her site some time back) and then just modified that a bit as I saw fit.

well with my master tailor on ahazi, i usually charge 3k credits for complicated clothing that requires factory components. 2k for certain pieces. And then 1k for simple clothing and boots/belts/bandoliers. For BE enhancements, if the person i'm doing the order for supplies me the BE components, 3k for each enhanced piece. If not, 5k per piece.

I mostly due vendor sales and some individual sales, but i mostly stay to that pricing. Not a real list, but a standard that i work off of.

I sell sunguards for 2k, but if i need money, i'll charge 3k.

And uniform boots, usually 2k.

Spec-ops packs i sell for 3-4k, and so on.

I may be undercutting my self with these prices, but just like you i've only been master tailor for 2 weeks now. I just today set up and started my first factory run. I will hopefully have 300 synthetic cloths by tomorrow.

My shop, located luckily near coronet starport (900m South), does really well, making me at least 20k every other night. I do spend most of it the next day on buffs, travel, or maintenance, but it evens out in the end for me.

I'll take note tonight to see how things average out, but there are things that do stick out in my mind:

I made one customer 6 outfits, consisted of 6 shirts, 6 pants and 6 pairs of boots, they paid me 100k for them (if my math is right, this is 5k+ per item)

I made one customer 15 neclaces last night, they paid me 50k (3k+ per item)

I made one outfit for a dancer, - dress, shoes and a top. She paid me 30k (10k per item)

I made one customer a ring, delivered it to where she was, She paid 50k

I made one customer a pair of hotpants and she gave me 10k

Naturally these stick out in my head because I felt it was alot of money. Not all will pay this much and I've only had one time where I made something and they didn't give me any money at all (Made a mental note of this person)

I'll take note of the items I sell tonight to get a more accurate picture and post my results tomorrow.

Also I make my guild mates clothing free of charge as they supply me with Heavy Clasps, Heavy Leather and other items needed for the limited use schemtics

As far as the limited use schematics go, I dont let my customers deceide the price on these. I've sold some aprons (depending on the type) anywhere from 200k-500k

I will usuallysell the Exqusite Leotards for less than 100k, sometimes I'll give them away as in my opinion most dancers probably can't afford to pay alot for these and they seem very grateful when they realize what it is.

If someone comes to me with a schematic and asks me to make it, I will make the item for them and give them a specific price depending on which compoents are needed.

I use http://personal.windsofstorm.net/swg/which is the second version of the SWG Tailor Calculator posted in NJ62's FAQ. I find it extremely helpful because i can chose how much cpu i'll charge on each item.

I think I'm by far a lowball. I gave myself a headache trying to decide what to charge, so I slapped 10 cpu on everything. I'm sure 15-20 cpu might be more average. I'm still making a great profit, but I spend at least an hour a day restocking. I could adjust for item complexity, and the fact that I am more heavily stocked than any other tailor on my server, but that won't last when the merchant nerf goes live ( I'm a master merchant darn it, I shouldn't HAVE an item limit!). Sighhhh

ok 2nd attempt at a post...lol

I also use Nivea's pricing guide. You can find it if you search the forums using her name. The guide is a little more expensive than a calculator but you don't have to remember what resources went into the product. I like having the paper in front of me. I do a good business although business has been kinda slow lately.

My BE prices come from Star-shine...

18k for 1 bio

25k for 2 bios in same slot

25k for 3 bios in same slot

35k for items that need 2-3 bios

50k for 4 bios (like md dresses)

75k for 5 bios (like grand healer's robe)

I do a good BE clothing business with these prices.

I used to have a very detailed list for every item but decided to just use something easier... so basically my prices are 500, 1k, 1500, 2k, 2500, 3k, 4, 5k. It depends somewhat on the total number of resources. Limited use schematic items are 100k for 1 component, 250k for two, BE clothes go from 13k to 40k depending on the number of tissues and their quality (I don't sell anything under 13).

I work strictly for tips... my standard answer when someone asks for a price is "whatever you want to tip is fine"... I got 20000 yesterday from a Wookiee for a Chef's Apron as an example.. I personally net much much more from this system than I ever did with having set prices... not that I really play this game anymore as I doubt I've logged in 10 times in the last 2 months... Don't know why I don't just go ahead and cancel... I will soon enough I reckon...

Hmmm Very interesting

I still haven't made the time to make a list of how much I get paid per item. I have recently started making BE clothes.

I had a customer yesterday wanting two items of clothing loaded with all of the BE enhancements I could throw at it. I beleive one was a Robe of Honor and the other item was a pair of slacks.

She asked how much I told her it would be 30k - Which I felt was a more than fair price

Anyway, she started flipping out and told me I was charging too much, then proceeded to say how her last outfits with the same mods only cost her 2k. I told her by all means to back and get some more as that is a awesome price.

After this I got to wondering if I charged too much after reading the prices above I dont wonder any more.

Peace
