For my shop I have the planetry ad but that is ALL the advertising I do for my shop. The way I let mine get recognized was I mingled with the customers and had a Peachy attitude. I also have all the popular clothing I see on my server such as hawtpants, decorative vests, desert command jackets, pantaloons etc. Make sure your shop has a friendly attitude as well. I actually speant two weeks JUST decorating my shop and getting items to make it a little more unique such as faction furniture. I have a small tatooine house and made the front room a display room with outfits and an armor display case with stormtrooper armor in the middle. For the back I made it look like living/working quarters in which I put down some couches, a small bed, and a desk with various items on it. In fact I've been told by several peeps it was the nicest house they've ever seen on the server, but that's just their opinion. Also do some custom orders for a week or two and let people know you are out there, I've actually made myself a clothing supplier for numerous guildsbecause ofcustom orders. Thats just about all I can think of but again, don't forget to have a friendly attitude with your customers!

The only thing I can say, is make sure you're not charging too much for the level items you can make.

Advertise by going into Cantina's and making outfits then tell them where your shop is.

Post on your server forum board advertising specials, or cute outfits then make sure they are in your shop.

I was lucky to be one of the first (notTHE first) Master Tailors on my server and I made sure to post often on the forums

offering clothing advice and suggestions for costumes and outfits, even for wookiees.

It's little things like that, which should help get the word out about your shop and your services.

Always be pleasant and helpful

What I would suggest is selling some of the basics on the bazaar to get your name out there, and to make cash. It's likely that people will ONLY go visit an actual shop if they have a full stock, and I'm sorry to say that you won't for a while - but the bazaar is where people go to find individual pieces for outfits, and that's how you can score. For example: black uniform boots. I think they're at field 1. They sell out every time. Sometimes I'd price them really high just to see what happened - and they'd sell every time. (I've noticed that because most tailors stock a huge variety, the basics sell out first - because, let's face it, it's BORING to make 20 pairs of black uniform boots.) Other "top sellers" are backpacks. Black is always a winner. For info on what sells at every level clicky.

I restarted on farstar server about 3 months ago, and this is how i went about mastering tailor, and getting the merchant skills.

1. I started by getting a waypoint for metals 1024 m from your city, then do artisan missions for money, but grinding while 'running' back and forwards between that waypoint, so that your making some money without really slowing down your grinding.

2. with enough exp i learned novice tailor, and had buisness 4 in artisan.

3. i purchased a small house, placed it somewhere in the path to my waypoint, or around that area. added some maintenance and created a vendor, placed 10 items on the vendor priced at 100k each so no one buys em. added maintenance for about 1 week on the vendor also.

4. continued grinding tailor while running the waypoint and gaining money, and once novice merchant skill qualified got that and replaced the vendor with a better looking one. (probably makes no difference tho) Also keep around 20 items all in black on the bazaar around this time, untill you start to get customers in your shop at a reasonable pace

5. mastered tailor, and by this point you should have a fair amount of merchant skills, just keep doing the artisan missions till you get enough money to buy a factory, then begin factory runs on all the basic sub components.

6. keep running missions, while factory runs are going, and making clothes as soon as you have all the neccassary resources/components made, and just put up your new vendors and start stocking them up.

7. finish stocking vendors to a point they are viewable by the public then turn on vendor advertising and continue adding more clothes, till your happy with your selection. change bazaar sale items to an item in each catagory displaying your waypoint on auction so they stay

8. money begins to come in at an increasing rate, good place to advertise is in cantina's, when someone asks if you can make them clothes, allways give them your vendor waypoint, and say you can make it, or they can check your vendor first which is exceptionally well stocked. sit around various cantina's / star ports any good population centre till you got a start of a customer base, with a fair few dancers and such they tend to spread your name if your good.

9. lookaround for BEtissue prices, save up for them, and begin expanding your selection with BE enhanced clothing whenever possible.

10. start getting schematic clothing in.

11. pat self on back

Edit: yes i do realise i began in first person and kinda changed

I've played Tailor afew times now over severallifetimes lol

I discoverd one thing. Running a Tailor vendor is a huge timesink..

I've taken to being a wandering Tailor this lifetimes. And am enjoying 1000% more then habving a vendor to babysit...

But anyways.. Two tips I can give you are...

Develop an eye for what sells on the bazaar fast.. Example Uniform boots, Black, White, Grey never sit on a bazaar long.. Basically try filling any holes in clothing seletionon the bazaar you see... Never price your items based off looted items of same sort. I made that mistake and over priced afew items untill I fogured out the other items where by player who knew nothing of Tailoring lol

2nd tip... Wear what you sell... Develop looks.. Outfits.. I just 2 days ago sold the cloths off my back becasue a friend loved the "Artic Rebal" Look as I'v come to call it.. I modle my own cloths.. If you got good freind of another race or sex. Offer them a free outfit to wear around town. Just ask that they direct any question about there cloths to you..

As always write up a discription of your shop location on each item you post for sale on the bazaar.. And give it time word will spread about your shop. Trust me

Quick UI tip:

GO into options --> Misc --> Keymap (it's on the bottom left side of the screen). If it's not in the misc tab, try other tabs, but I know it's an option under control+0

Then go to "chat" and scroll down to "chat copy." Hit "rebind" and do "control+Shift+C". Repeat with "paste" and "control+shift+V". Save the changes. (Control shift v will override a never-used command so just say OKAY to that).

Pull up /notepad (in your basic ui) and write your shop description. Now using your new commands copy that text. You should then be able to easily paste your shop location in the description field for each bazaar item and not have to retype it.

Ignore whatever you have heard about "working your way up" you WILL starve long before you make master. The ONLY stuff ANYONE is truely interested in are the colors and selection at the master level. No one is going to buy an undershirt from you then fly to another vendor for a cloak and another vendor for a tac suit. It would be nice but that is not the way the game is played in reality. You will be endlessly running survey missions and giving your stuff away until you succumb to the grind. Yes, yes, yes there are some vocal "I did it the hard way and you can too" opinions but you need to look at them like you do your grandpa when he tells about the good old days before flush toilets.

Nobody likes grinding but unless you have SEVERAL MONTHS and DEDICATE your entire game expereince to climbing the tailor tree you have no choice. There is absolutley no way you will sell or give away enough items to make it before you switch to something else.

Begining crafters are grinders. Period.

That being said, once you do grind to Master you will find it well worth the trouble. I love being a Master Tailor, and I make a good living - enough to support my alt to doc/tkm. Everything you need to know about markets, what's hot in fasion, issues is all here on the forum. 90% of everything in here is gold.

Everything except the advice to "tough it out" that is.

Good luck!

A couple more thoughts and suggestions......

Unless you really have your heart set on a particular type of tailoring, work up the fieldwear and customization branchs first. This will give you all of the tailoring components, the most popular selling clothing items (dusters, packs, general military styled gear)and increase your selection of colors.

Be patient with the World map. Since the recent publish, I haven't seen much change in the number of listings but I'm guessing that over the next couple weeks many of the existing vendors will drop off. The map is a very good idea as long as it's no longer cluttered with empty and storage vendors.

I've always made more credits from the bazaar than my shop. I developed a list of 25 varied items that give a good selection and are popular. Most days I sell out of these items. My shop is well decorated, positioned and advertised but only makes a slight profit......go figure.

My last disjointed thought is to make sure that you have your current tailoring title showing. Spend some time in town and see who approachs you for clothing.

Hang in there....It will get better.....

I'm in complete agreement with Captain Johnny. The only way to really make money is at Master Tailor level. Your color selections alone should be worth a good grind.

I have a very large shop in Theed, Naboo. I'm grossing approximately 1.5 million a week. Where do I make my money? Bio-Clothing. I also offer a huge selection of regular clothes and a great color selection. I know there are some professions that would laugh at making 1.5 million a week but for a tailor, I think that's pretty good. I make far more money at it than architect. My suggestion to you is to bite the bullet and do that grind to master. Work on your AP, and look for a good BE to buy tissues off of.

When I first started out, I could only afford to buy my tissues in singles, not in the crates. I stuck those on clothing that didn't need multiple tissues in slots. Those sold well. Finally I could afford crated tissues, and everything took off from there. Hint: injury/wound tissues sell very well, as do the melee/stun, camo/mask scent, and especially taming tissues. The rest sell well but don't throw a whole lot of money on entertainer tissues, they sell, but not too fast.

Good luck and I hope you get into the swing of things soon!

It took me a while to get a customer base established. It also helps to have master. No one bought my items when I was novice.

You might also want to check your clothing prices with other tailors around Coronet. You might be charging too much.

For novice tailors, a good start, altho boring, is to make tons of packs and sell them on the bazaar. My first 100k was made entirely from packs of one sort or another . What I did while grinding, was to make the best packs I could and fill them up with clothing to sell on the bazaar (way back before we had the "Practice" button and had to destroy everything we made by hand )

Example: Make a Travel Pack, and fill it with a bunch of Ent clothing. Rename the bag Ent Clothing(Blues) 20 pieces. Or somtehing like that.

Go to Cantinas and make clothing for the folks dancing there... Make an ad up in /note then cut and paste it into the sellers description listing your vendor WP and throw something onto the bazaar for auction, you now have free advertising for a week!...

Right now your color palatte is rather weak, so mabye focus on clothing for fighters. Find a BE and work out a deal with them so they supply you with BE tissue....

There's tons of things to help your business pick up, hope this helps and good luck!
