With the many color palettes, and not name/number to go with the color, only a tiny box the size of a needle tip, how do ya'll match the color? Please tell me there is a number/name to go with the colors and I am just blind and missing it. If not, that is highly needed, or at least make a universal color palette as stated on another post.
Any suggestions? I just hit Master tonight, and was expecting numbers or whatever to go with them. But nope, not at all. So matching is a miss and hit at times, and sometimes what looks like it matches, you equip it, and it isn't the right color.
Anyways around this?

At the moment I just add the number after the colour. So for the full colour palette they are numbered 1-255, for the basic leather its 1-48, and so on. I have the palettes printed from the Needful Things website but most of the colours I use a lot I have memorized now
Its not a perfect system but at least customers can pick up a light buster, skirt and slippers of red (254) and know they will go together quite well.

What is the needful things website?
Is there such a thing out there that has them numbered to match all palettes?

If you go to the FAQ READ THIS FIRST post up top there should be a link to Syzygy's color charts. You can copy that whole mess into in-game (an e-mail to yourself, because the notepad isn't big enough) and it assigns a number to each color. It is quite amazing because it shows all of the numbers IN the color that they are assigned to, and the numbers are in the order the colors show up in the palettes. There is one for each palette.

I'm in the Really Big Examine Window or Tell Me What Another Site Calls It camp.
When I make my own items for the vendor or whatever, I stick to a rather small subset of the allowed colors.

I tend to go by eye... After doing a lot of experimentation I can say that practice really does payoff, often I woon't even try to match a color. Rather, I'll look at tone and texture, to let the items compliment each other and the wearer. Then again... I have had far more failures while "experimenting" than successes.. hehe... but we'll just keep that little tidbit here, no one ever sees the disasters

This is where the 'professional' aspect of tailoring kicks in. Being able to match colors is an art, something that takes a good deal of study and time. Like anything the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

Another thing to add - if you are going "by eye" be sure to use the "examine" window to get appropriate lighting. This doesn't mean that the customer needs to hand you the item to be matched - simply ask the customer to wear the item, and then examine the customer. You should be able to match the colors pretty easily that way (indeed I've done this for people who wanted a tailored version of their favorite loot drop garment).
I've kept the ui default color scheme (I think it's alpha blue - in any case it is a light aqua) and find lighting/matching easier with that color scheme than with others.

Maybe that's why lately it seems harder to match colors... I only recently changed the ui color too. Never put 2 and 2 together... LOL

I have Syzygy's color chart pasted into my notepad, but mostly I just have a really, really good eye. It helps in my Naked Suit business.

Sometimes when doing an order, if I know that I have a few pieces to make of specific colors that I may forget the exact tones- I'll take a screenshot while in the color picking part of crafting it. That way I can refer back to the screenshot and see exactly what I picked...lol
