Thread: I strong protest the Holo Imager
I am already overworked and I feel this is an un-needed tool.
Skilled tailors should be able to make recommendations to clients without the use of this 'tool'.. isn't that WHY they come to a tailor instead of a vendor?
Please NO Holo-imagers
:scratches head
:is confused
Admittedly, confusion is not an unusual state for me, but I've not heard anything about this.
But I doubt we'll see anything that complicated implemented for us. I mean, come on, we haven't even gotten new schems since release, I doubt we'll get a whole new intricate system.

True that it probably won't be implemented in any form, but I would like customers to be able to see their options! It's more tedious trying to describe the 15 shades of blue, especially since colours appear differently to them due to different graphics settings.
But.. you're missing the whole point of tailoring! It is up to US tailors, our professional services to pick the right shade of blue, red, green or whatever.. along with style and so forth. Our profession is knowledge and a bit of creativity to help players look their best. Most players let me do their outfits for them.. they don't really wanna choose the exact shade of blue, that is MY job to pick and choose for them based on my professional opinion.
Honestly I would like the option to make my display clothes "male" or "female." Right now I have wedding displays on the wall and it looks like I'm a very progressive tailor. (Actually, I am making outfits for 2 females who are getting married, but they both want dresses.)

I agree that this probably won't be implemented, though I would like an option to show customers the crafting image we see when choosing colors.
While I understand your point of "what the Tailoring professions is about" I think you'll find...
Just as most players let you make their outfits for them now... so will they after such things are implemented.
Most people do not want to be bothered to sit through all those color choices to pick what they want.
Those that do want this choice are those that usually have a strong opinion of what they want. They are the ones that are willing to spend as much time as is needed to get that design that they pictured.
Crafters in ALL the different branches have a hard time relating to the lack of knowledge the general player has regarding their items. With all the different colors that can or can't be used for each item, the racial and sexual limits for each, and the many bugs and glitches that exist for all the many individual items... it is so easy to understand why players don't know what is possible and what isn't.
Star Wars, in it's essence, is largely tied to IMAGE and FASHION. Every character has their own unique items, clothes and accessories. For every character, a team of artists designed their look. You have to understand that many players want to represent their own idea of how their characters should look.
Granted, a Tailor that is willing to spend AS MUCH time as is necessary to complete the look someone is going for, is the best tailor you can go to. A collaboration of ideas and an expert's input will yield the best results, sometimes creating something one individual would not have thought of on their own.
We all know that THAT can be EXTREMELY difficult to do, and often the tailor has other customers/orders/pressing matters that they want to attend to. Thus they can rarely, truly give enough time to one customer.
Sure many great websites can aid this process, but then why not just add such an interface to the game?
So, while tailors are the masters of creating the styles and apparel of the inhabitants of our galaxies... they are not the sole keepers of this facet, nor should they deem themselves so highly.
The ability for players to preview clothes in their different color possibilities in no way threatens the work of a True Tailor.

There is a way to do this, but it is kind of a pain. If a male wears the clothes and drops them they display as the male model of the clothes. Sometime I want to get a guy to pick up, wear and drop some of the items that I have on display on my shop so that I can have male versions on display, especially the suit shirt!
Yes, I enjoy finding a look for people. But when they come to you wanting a specific item and can't describe it enough for you to figure out what it is...
Some people do leave it almost all up to me, in which case I try to apply enough creativity so they don't look like everyone else, but don't stick out too much either.
I suppose, then, that what I perceive "the point" of tailoring to be is a combination of both extremes - taking specific orders and proposing ideas.
