Thread: Proposed Clothing Color way of doing things.. All Tailors please read and comment

The one that I really hate about clothing in this game is the option to not be able to change the color of my clothing at will. I waste space at my home by having so many clothes .....it would be nice to have a lower item count in my house for other things I really need.

I disagree withthe idea of a dye kit for clothing. That's the tailor's bread and butter. It's not just about different clothing, color is also a huge part of how we make our money.
This proposal would infact be taking revenue away from the tailor. A great deal, in fact. This would not possitively impact the player-run economy what so ever. It may even run some otherwise wonderful, fair-priced tailors out of business because they just can't make enough money at it anymore.
One last thing, I'm sure it was not intended as such, but this mind-set that's floating about the non-tailor communitythat considerswhat we do [make clothes] as something that has no valueputs me off.The comment abovein bold as my example.Again, while non BE clothing's value may not be tangible, such as stopping damage, or adding buff stats, it is quite clear that it provides that mental affinity of looking different, unique. I think that in and of it's self is just as important as any other marketable item that a player can provide.I thinkour bank accounts prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Explain to me how this would take away from your income.. Its currently taking away from your income because when I go into your vendor shop and you dont have the color I want I am NOT going to buy anything. Also then I will also consider HMM I already have a black fleshwrap and I dont really have the house space for another of the same kind of item AGAIN in a different color. So by what your saying, You dont have the color I dont want, I WONT BUY and I dont want another of the same peice of clothing with another color again I WONT buy, BUT as allowing me to dye my stuff HEY I have more room to buy different types of new clothing AND I have the option to change its color making money for you in dye kits. Lets face facts most people dont buy clothes from tailors much anymore because we all have it already. What we dont have are color, then again I dont want the same outfit AGAIN. I have a house full of 250 clothes and nothing else in that large house.. I am so thinking of just destroying half of them and NOT buying anymore clothes ever again. With what I am proposing I would maybe buy 1 of everything you make because I would love a bigger wardrobe. Currently that is not possible due to house limits. It also looks like lame having all your clothes standing up by itself. Now unless SOE comes up with a closet that takes away from house limits on clothing (which I doubt will ever happen) more and more tailors are going to disapear because lts face facts.. Your NOT making the money you use to and thats because we all dont want 5 of the same type of clothing just in different colors.. If anything you going to be making more money NOT less. This might be something that brings tailor back to life because most tailors i know have quit. And the reason most of them quit is because people arent happy with the clothing selection of clothes on vendors. Bottom line, let us Dye and you will sell more.. Its a proven fact on other games, it would be no different here!

ok great but your in the wrong forum for that.. Clothing is an issue that we all use. I totally disagree with the personal contact with a person and a tailor. Most people place orders and say put it on a vendor and I will pick it up. Trust me when I say you will make more money letting a player chose there own color when they want then you will doing vendors with a set color. If you want a personal touch with customers then thats what standing in Coronet and spamming all day is about
Cry4Dawn,
Yea, you're absolutely right, if coloring kits came out though I could probably charge 50k each for them and make a million the first day. Of course then I'd have to quit tailor and move onto something else since I'd be useless. Anyhow, somehow, I have no idea how *snicker* I've been able to survive as a tailor all this time without them. So please excuse my harshness, but the day they give customers coloring kits is the day I quit tailor. Seriously, all I'd be is a generic crafting machine then. "Hey Art, gimme a shirt, I don't care what style of color". *shiver*
I think the biggest misconception you have here is that this is about credits. It's not. I have around 20 million credits in the bank. Why would I care whether or not this proposal of yours would increase my revenue? (I don't think it would by the way). Tailoring is a bad way to make money anyhow. If I wanted to make a million credits tonight I could go camp out on loot drops, or run the jabba missions and sell the schematics, or go on a rancor hunt with a bazillion other people and sell off the meat. Tailor is a bad way to make money no matter how you look at it. The reason why I do it though is because I actually *gasp* enjoy it. I like helping people improve their appearance, I enjoy building up a positive reputation with customers, and I enjoy exterting my creativity. Your suggestion cuts to the heart of all that and takes all that away. It's unfortunate that the *only* way in which we have to customize a piece of clothing is in it's color. But that's the wayit is.
Do you want tailors to remain in the game and make clothing for you to wear? Then please don't push this or other ideas that would make *your* life easier, and ours more miserable ok?
P.S. we had a massive poll a while back
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=tailor&message.id=23675
(this issue has been discussed a lot) and it pretty mcuh unanimous. tailorsemphatically are against coloring kits for customers. Toinsist that this would be good for us, is saying that you know tailoring better than we do.

I already did.

We tailors have no lack of customers who feel free to contact us for their custom order needs. If you don't wish to 'inconvenience' yourself by not taking the necessary steps to get what you want, that is your loss, not ours.
Also then I will also consider HMM I already have a black fleshwrap and I dont really have the house space for another of the same kind of item AGAIN in a different color.
How and why is this the Tailor's problem because you are a pack rat?
Lets face facts most people dont buy clothes from tailors much anymore because we all have it already.
I think you assume incorrectly. We have no lack or slow down of customers as you suggest.
I have a house full of 250 clothes and nothing else in that large house.. I am so thinking of just destroying half of them and NOT buying anymore clothes ever again.
Again, because you horde clothes, you wish to penalize the tailors for this. It makes no sense to punish us for your lack of space.
With what I am proposing I would maybe buy 1 of everything you make because I would love a bigger wardrobe. Currently that is not possible due to house limits. It also looks like lame having all your clothes standing up by itself.
Put them in a back packs. *shrug*
Your NOT making the money you use to and thats because we all dont want 5 of the same type of clothing just in different colors..
Again, it's back to you wanting to nerf tailors because you have space issues.
If anything you going to be making more money NOT less.
We'll just agree to disagree about this one.
This might be something that brings tailor back to life because most tailors i know have quit. And the reason most of them quit is because people arent happy with the clothing selection of clothes on vendors.
LOL about this. Again, I'm just as busy as ever.
Bottom line, let us Dye and you will sell more.. Its a proven fact on other games, it would be no different here!
Coming from playing Ultima On Line [six years] & Dark Ages of Camelot [two years], where items are dyeable, I can tell you straight up that your comment about making more money from dyeable items is infact false. People care very little about 'wardrobes' in that game. It's more about high-end loot.
What you just said regarding UO was ignorant.. If you played UO you would know that EVERYONE wanted a clothing dye and they got it. I also did beta testing for DOAC and trust me you couldnt be more wrong on this issue as well

If you provide me data transcripts and calculations where this is a 'proven fact' in other games, perhaps I might reconsider.

That would be a tailor nerf
Just like if we started making armor, or guns would
be a Armorsmith or Weaponsmith Nerf
actualy the reason people wanted black dye kits was because they are rare, the common standard dye kits are worth nothing and any standard clothes are also worth nothing. the only reason people made tailors in UO was to make leather armor, not clothes which could be bought from an npc at any time.
