Thread: Bio Ready Clothing: What skills do you need?

Hello, have a quick question. I know that the reinforced panels that the Bio tissues go into are available in the Field Ware tree (first box I think). Also, the reinforced pants and shirts are also craftable in that tree. So, to be able to craft bio-enhanced clothing (if you have the tissues) all you would need is the Field Ware tree from Tailor? If this is the case, would these clothes also have sockets, or do you need to go up some other tree to get sockets on your clothing?

thanks!

Tissues and Sockets are two different things. Sockets are for skill tapes to be added AFTER the clothing is made. All you need to make a Bio-Enhanced piece of clothing is the enhanced RFP or Synth Cloth (depending on which tissue you are using) and a clothing schematic that requires either an RFP or Synth Cloth. You don't need any special skills to actually make the enhanced clothing.

Essentially, you craft the clothing like you usually do except you have sewn an enhancement into it as an extra.

ok, forget any mention of bio-enhanced clothing....

the question is this: what skills (if any) do you need to craft your clothing with sockets?

the point is I'd like to know the MINIMUM amount of boxes I'd need to get in Tailor to craft clothing that 1) could be bio-enhanced (yes I know it's crafted into the panels) and 2) has sockets.

Aim for 0 4 0 4 tailor. I forget the socket frequency difference between tailor 4 and master, so perhaps even master is the level at which four sockets appear often. It has simply been too long ago sorry

You won't be able to make any sockets in clothes until you are at x-x-x-2 in skills. When you take Tailoring II, you get the ability to make sockets. After that, it gets better with each skill. Your making more sockets, with better consistency

Oh one thing I recall is that I would get sockets for the Dom Arts clothing when just an artisan, but lost all socket ability when at novice tailor, even for the Dom Arts items. Not sure if this still applies.

Well, I can only get sockets on Dom Arts clothes when I've got Engineering skills (I assume it's because they give bonuses to artisan assembly). Not sure if this is related to your issue or not, but I think it's pretty lame that I'm a Master Tailor, yet I have to keep the whole Eng line to get 4 sockets on the Dom Arts clothes.

Well that is very interesting, Kara.

I am master tailor, but 0 4 0 0 artisan. Could the reason I get no sockets on things like leather gloves be that I don't have the eng tree? That would surely need investigation.

I'm the same. 0440 artisan, and I can't get a socket in anything from the Dom Arts line. They should really change that, as a Master Tailor, I figure I could make casual pants in my sleep, but apparently a droid engineer can do it better than me...

I am pretty sure it is the engineering tree. I get sockets on all of my domestic arts clothes. The numbers of sockets is not as consistant as tailor clothes, though. For tailor clothes I usually get 4 sockets but for DA I usually get 2-3 sockets. Its strange since I am also a master artisan.

Well, I used to be Master Artisan/Master Tailor and took my sockets for granted on everything. Then I dropped the entire Eng and Survey lines in order to finish out Master Merchant, and look ma, no sockets!

Now I am retraining Artisan with skill points snagged from Marksman, and those Dom Arts socketed items started showing up again! So I'm pretty sure it is indeed the Eng skill bonuses that determine sockets.

Back in beta, all Dom Arts clothes used Artisan Customization skills to determine color selection, not Tailor ones. So once you got to Dom Arts IV (and if I remember right, even the Artisan Customization bonus in the Eng skills helped color selection) you had a great range of colors on Dom Arts clothes. I remember making an outfit at Dom Arts IV - with either Eng II or III - that was in that first really good shade of green that now I think you don't get until Tailoring II. So we complained over and over about how stupid it was that Dom Arts crafters had better color selection than Novice Tailors. Then they changed the skills so that the color range progressed from Dom Arts to Tailor in the way that it works today.

I bring this up because my guess is that the sockets for artisan level clothes are working the same way. I'm not sure if I'd call this a bug, but it's definately annoying design. A tailor should not need Engineering knowledge to build sockets into the easier, lower-level clothing.

It certainly seems to be the case. I think this should be escalated if possible by our correspondent.
