Thread: making money with tailor?

Well, after many many months of combat I now have that second character slot and am thinking of doing some crafting with it. I'm curious about wether or not I can make money as a Tailor. I wouldn't expect it to be like a WS or AS but still I'm curious what the $$$ potential is, especially once BE clothing is fixed. I'm not looking to "get rich" off of it and make decent money anyway with my main character but I don't want to invest in the profession and just have everything sit on the vendor for 6 months after I make it.

Tailoring is a veryhands-on crafting profession, unlike weaponsmith and armoursmith (when the factory colour bug isn't bugged!) a lot of us make the majority of our vendor stock by hand. If you don't enjoy going through the motions of crafting then you might be better off picking another profession.

That said, if you are willing to spend time with a customer who may not know exactly what they want and help them find an outfit they are after, or are able to keep a well stocked vendor for people to come in and browse, then tailoring can be a profitable profession.

Be prepared to get /tells for all sorts of items tailorscannot make though...red boots, capes, sunglasses, furniture, BE nutrients, blue spec-ops dusters, CL 20 weapons (and that's just this week!!)

Yeah, chances aren't good that you will make a lot of money on Tailor. You will make money as there aren't really many active Tailors. I end up taking 4 or more orders if I am on for more than 20 minutes. And that is with the BE stuff still broken. I have been stockpiling tissues just waiting

I actually make a lot more money selling my leftover resources and high-quality resources I also harvest...

Yeah I wouldn't mind the hand crafting that's not a problem. I just wasn't sure how much business I might be looking at. I know on my main character I'd buy a set of clothing and wear it for months before buying anything else. Of course other professions like entertainer types might change clothing every other day I don't know lol. Can anyone give me some $$$ ranges on what they make per week?

I've made around 1.6mil in the last two weeks, but like I said, that's mostly on resources and it really depends on what you charge. I tend not to charge much because I don't like to charge way over what the materials cost for the clothing. It also depends on your marketing skills. If you get your name out there you will find that a lot of people will be sending you orders, especially if there aren't a lot of tailors on your server. So I really can't get you a solid estimate. I guess last night I had three custom orders, some larger than others and I probably profited around 30k or so for 30 - 45 minutes of crafting.

No matter how little you people say they purchase clothes...I have combat people who will come in and order every night..Just because they enjoy my shop and they know I will be there ready to help them and talk to them anytime they want =) Tailoring is more of a social profession.

I have only been active Tailor for a couple weeks now, but I have made about 1mil in 2 weeks, and that is just starting out. I notice that the longer my vendors stand, the more business I am recieveing -as word is getting out-. Entertainers and "Movie Outfits" tend to be my reccurring sellers. Black anything of course is best also. I have found that as I use more vendors to separate different types of clothing, the easier it is for my customers to pick out what they want. I have my vendors separated by Ithorian, wookie, clothing, accessories, movie outfits, 4 socket items, and black and white clothing and accessories. This allows everyone to pick what they want faster and easier rather than look through 1000 items on 1 or 2 vendors. I also get a lot of compliments on this idea. I am also thinking of selling entertainer outfits in a bag, any thoughts or experiences with this? If you do choose to be tailor, good luck!!

Ive played since launch with some breaks here and there, and accumulated just over $700 million with my midnight sun BE clothing...OF COURSE NOW its bugged but if a fix comes in you can DEF make some good $$ but its DEMANDING and alot of WORK, and yah you have to deal with ALL kinds of requests and mail and things, but if you have PATIENCE with your customers, and give good customer care, the sky is the limit really PLUS its fun, and you get to meet all kinds of crazy customers

Tailor isn't likely to give you a 500 million credit bank account, but it can easly give you 10s of millions if you work at it. If you aren't in the game of bidding for ultra-rare loot then this is plenty to get almost anything you want!
