Thread: No hope for decay
Yeah, I have to say this is a pretty braindead move on the part of the devs.
I was considering lowering some of my prices since I'm one of the more expensive tailors on my planet but now I'm not going to bother. I still enjoy making clothes for myself and it looks like I won't have to worry about harvesting some high DR/OQ polymer like I was planning to.
If they have permanantly removed decay... I suspect it's because the dev guys don't have the time to code out a proper solution to clothing decay. In the grand scheme of things it's a minor issue so I suspect they haven't considered the consequences of their actions on this one, and will only realise the mistake they made when they notice that only 0.1% of the population of the serversare in the Tailoring business. Obviously they have no respect for the players opinions since it wasn't even mentioned anywhere on these forums what they were planning. The 'overwhelming response' on clothing decay is merely their (lying) excuse for saving themselves an extra few man hours in coding.
Perhaps they're relying on their disappearing item bug to destroy clothing for us.
And if they're going to add decay... why the hell did they not bother to mention it to any of the peoplewho actually play the profession? Inexcusable.
They need to rename the Clothing and Armour Repair Tool to just Armor Repair Tool.
(Hopeful) Maybe they just mean they removed the display of the statistic until it is working?
What cracks me up is that one of Holocron's core principles in beta that he emphasized daily and fought for on the boards was "Everything will decay". He wrote post after post after post arguing why it was needed and was critical to the game economy working. The big problem with Holo, and with the game in general, is that there just is no principle they won't discard in the face of disapproval.
I mean, did they think that customers *wanted* to have to rebuy clothes? Customers don't want to have to rebuy anything! If positive customer reaction is the standard for whether they implement features, then any hope I had that the devs actually have a vision for this game is pretty much wasted. It's Mob Rule at SOE.
Hey, why make a decision and stand by it whenit's so much easier tojust appease?
I'd just been talked back from the brink of quitting as a tailor (8k vendor maintenance and 1.2k worth of sales in 24 hours?) and had even just ordered a second copy of the game to armourcraft with. But after this my order is most definitely cancelled, and my tailor skills will probably be dropped.
Even if this change gets reversed, by this point I don't trust a word SOE says. Not to mention that this plan, despite bankrupting us, will mean that there is no skill involved in tailoring, apart from the obvious colour sense needed!
Well. We didn't have clothing decay before either, (but were patiently waiting for it to be fixed) and clothing was selling just fine until the last big patch and the stealth nerf to item storage limits added to the reduction in mission payouts and people quit buyingso much of anything except weapons and pets. That is when clothing sales slumped. Probably housing sales too.
Soooo, if every Tom, **edit** and Jane knows that their clothes will never wear out, and that they have only so much space alloted for stuff... clothes and furniture and other decorations will... what? Be trashed and replaced rapidly for some variety? Or budgeted and hoarded with what little storage they can spare? Do we raise prices to compensate? Or let them plummet to make any sales at all?
I'm sorry, I can't figure out the logic in not having clothes decay like everything else does without maintenance or replacement of some kind. I sure hope this is just a temporary withdrawal of a useless feature until they fix it and put it back in the game. Soon. Real soon. Or a lot of Tailors are going to give up.
I think what we got here was a short sentence on what they did for now when a full paragraph explaining why this nowand how it is planned to be reimplemented later was what was needed. We definitely need a fuller explanation of what is going on with this issue.
Don't foget increased vendor fees as well. They need more places for people to sink their money into...
Shame that they hit the people with no money to begin with.
I have kept a pretty optomisic outlook on the game up until now. I haven't b1itched about anything as of yet because I was having fun in the game. Even without the decay and the useless experimentaion I still had hope that one day they would impliment this. Now we get 55 colors to play with and thats it!
Whats the use for a novice tailor to climb the trees if there is no reward for clothing custimization except color?
I guess the devs read all the other boards and not the Tailor board if they think everyone didn't want clothing decay. Or maybe we don't have a loud enough voice.
I agree with Jowimalla, we should flood the CSR and /bug with reports of how we wan't these skills back.
Maybe they'll listen? Who knows, i doubt it.
I can't really understand the "overwhelming community feedback" that removed decay from clothing. Clothing hasn't decayed at all in the time I have been playing (I wasn't in on the beta) and I really can't see the majority of people all fired up that they see a durability stat when they examine their clothes (how often do people do that anyway?). I am certain that the tailoring community didn't ask for it. The only community I can think of who would want it is the programming community who didn't want to fix the bugs involved with clothing decay. What a shame.
Anyway, I am now tempted to flood the bazaars with forever useless clothing repair tools (which I can still make, by the way).
Don't foget increased vendor fees as well. They need more places for people to sink their money into...
Speaking of vendor fees... did you see they altered the descriptions for some of the Merchant tree? Master Merchant especially I think it was. 60% reduction of vendor maintenance. And a couple other little things.
I'd like to hear from Alichai on this issue. If she is in general agreement (and I think she is), I'd like for her to ensure that this thread gets some attention. I don't recallseeing a post from Holo or Q asking for our feedback on this issue (like the discussions for T21s, vendors, etc).
I think that someone like Holo might be unconcerned because they don't see this as a balance issue. The reality is that it is a balance issue. It just isn't centered around combat (which is all that seems to matter). If clothing never wears out, we take a huge economic hit.
I do, of course, realize that we have never had clothing decay. So what's the big deal right? The big deal is that servers like Chilastra are maturing. Up until now, people were buying clothes that they had never seen before or simply couldn't afford. These days, I'm feeling the effects of people saying, "It is nice, but I already have one. In fact, I have one of everything I'm interested in". So when a customer leaves my shop with something, I no longer even have the hope that that person will return to buy that thing again. A weaponsmith, on the other hand, will continue to sell the same rifle to the same person until the end of time.
So if they are not going to give us our decay, they should guarantee us one new master level draft schematic per week. At least then we have new things to sell. This also implies that they should give us some way to hold all those draft schematics when that section of the DP starts to fill up.
I notice that Alichai hasn't been around for almost a full ten days, so if I have missed the reason for her absence, I do apologize.
