Wow. I feel sorry for the person who posted they follow that guide on radiant. I've been master tailor for about a week, and I have a list of over 300 customers since then who have bought from me. I take my time with each and everyone one, I enjoy the chatting and trying out colors. My prices are way cheaper than that list, although 75% of my clients pay me more than I ask for. I have made more this week than I would need to keep all of my vendors/shops/miners going for months without selling another good.

I do cater towards females far far more than males, but I still get plenty of male customers. I've actually found that most females (which I believe are the real ladies) are less picky than the guys, teehee I'm more than happy to make the same outfit in a couple colors and let them try it on first and keep the one they like. I know I'll sell the other one sooner or later.

And I prefer to sell to the higher number at lower price than the other way around. Its more fun. I play for a few hours each night, skip a few nights. I have resell agreements with 2 other vendors that buy in bulk from me, and I get around 20-30 emails a day of custom orders, and I really don't have too much of a problem witha 1 day turn around, most of it is same day if they are willing to come to me. Add in the fact that I travel to two other planets every few days to wander the cantina, I just don't see the problem. And then there are the people who travel to my shop while I am there and the restocking deal. I had a mad rush the first few days but have caught up quite well.

Could I sell stuff for more? *shrug* probaly, I know a guy on Tat charges double what I do. RIght now I'm having fun. If it feels more like work than fun I may change prices. But I'm confident that as more people hit master tailor, they will try to undercut the high priced sellers, and will quickly pickup a client base. I've already developed one, and have entire PA's who shop only through me. I believe I can keep my base of customers happy so that I won't have to worry about how many new master tailors were made that day.

One last thing, as I said I mostly deal with ladies, and many are entertainers of some sort...not exactly the high money profession. Although many a patron of theirs will buy their favorite dancer a new outfit. Dunno, I just like selling dresses and sexy female clothing more, and that is my market I do like a dealing and flirting with the guys who know what they want, and I don't think of myself as a RP'er but I guess I do RP somewhat, but I really just think it is something I enjoy and that comes across

Anyways, to each their own, if you are happy that is all that matters

Naturally there will be differences per server-cluster, but hell 2k for master items isn't acceptable on any cluster, especially not with mission payouts as they are right now. And what some people also ignore to realize is that clothing decay won't work anytime soon.

At this point, from my perspective, price is very much dependant on supply, demand and taste. For instance, I sell ribbed pants at hideously low cost, compared to Nivea's: 400 at the absolute maximum, and generally more along the lines of 250. They're decent, but no fantastic to look at, and I have at least four other -- and superior -- types of pants that I can make. Most of those vary up towards 800cr.

On the other hand, I sell the Spec-Op Duster for 5k, rather than Nivea's 3. At the moment, I'm one of two tailors on our planet that can make the things, and the demand for them is enormous (I'm frequently flooded with requests for them when wandering through the various towns, and until today, wasn't able to make the darn things); it's simply a price the market supports. But like the ribbed pants, they'll go down in cost when I can make something superior; in time, they'll sell for 3k, and the Gunman Duster (the preferred style) will go for 5k in their place.

But then, one of the things I love about this profession is that there are no hard-and-fast rules -- and thanks very much, both of you, for making this guide readily accessible. I actually do refer to it frequently.

Hi there, yep - Nivea you are missing a couple items, i have taken your list and added to a spreadsheet im working on and then added the missing items (i have since noticed that im missing Administrators Robe and Muscle Shirt on my list tho... need to add them) so if you wanna download em if only just to get my listing of items including Domestic Arts items feel free anyone to take and use as you wish.

Html list is here:
http://imp.uow.edu.au/staff/feen/swg/feens_tailor_prices.html

Excel SS is here:
http://imp.uow.edu.au/staff/feen/swg/Feens-Tailor-Pricing.xls

Now let me explain how i came to my prices and why many of them are cheaper than Niveas...

i have made myself my own price list based initially on Niveas prices, then on a resources formula which was derived using Janey's spreadsheet, i left the complexity modifier low and then added a tier level modifier to my resource based price and then i took those prices and rounded them up or down based on a host of arbitrary decisions.

Now - to justify my lower prices at this stage:

1. A fellow tailor has set up shop nearby and is selling for preposterously low prices. My low prices are like triple his and he has more advanced stuff in fieldwear etc, im hoping he will raise his soon or go out of business, but **edit** it hurts to see those prices on his vendor...

2. Im relocating soon and so havent been marketing heavily so stuff moves kinda slow, so im happy to keep it cheaper to get some kind of sales of those who happen by

3. You will note bolded items on my list, these are all i can make, I am far from master. So for those unbolded i cannot even stock them yet anyway. So none of my higher items are socketed (i usually add some cost for items with 3 or 4 sockets) and my quality aint overall crash hot (not that it matters yet anyway). I also have a well known master tailor operating nearby also (not the same mentioned above) and obviously she gets most local business (i assume anyway). I will probably increase prices when i master.

4. I tend to prefer making custom items/outfits for people. I sometimes vary my prices up (or maybe down) from this base depending on the customer.

5. Im hoping that competitive prices will assist in bring more people to the town myself and others are trying to get going in this area where my store is.

6. a note on warm hats. Fez hats are my "theme" - As such i name them all "A Fez Hat by Feen" and price them at half what I would otherwise have priced them at. I want to see lots of people wearing these hats and thus i stock a good amount of them and price them cheaply hoping more will wear them. I also have done this a little with other prices, either up or down in my arbitrary rounding based on whether i want to see more people in them or not.

7. I have only come up with this price list yesterday. Before yesterday my prices were all over the place and inconsistent. I have restocked my vendor based on these prices (day before yesterday many items that had been up for 7 days came offsale after the 7 days so i made teh pricelist so i had something to go on to restock em last night). I have as such not yet had time to visit many other tailor vendors on my planet and compare prices. I intend to do another pass on my prices based on what i find by visiting a number of other shops.

8. Loot drop clothes all over the bazaar, stuff i charge 2k for going unsold on bazaar for 100 pains me...

I do not make these prices in an attempt to undercut anyone and if i find that i am heavily undercutting i will adjust accordingly.
I have not too heavly factored in the situation of clothes not decaying, im hoping they will eventually and that my prices will hopefully result in repeat custom when they do.

Anyway, my spreadsheet needs to be updated, im currently hacking away at a copy of janeys one for my own use that has the Dom Arts items and pulls my pricing from the formulas rather than - as you can see in my SS - manually entering them per item.

I should point out that my sythetic cloth is inconsistently priced (and underpriced at that) in my forumla calculations andd comes out as a base resource cost instead of including factory overheads etc. My prices will rise a little when i rectify this also...

all in all tho, im just providing these links to save people data entry on including the Dom Arts and other missing items in any lists they have... not to spark a debate about my prices or offer them as any guide.
Note, Admin robe and Muscle shirt arent on my list as yet tho, which by the way i list the price as 400 and 600 respectively.

I also thinking of 10% discount on custom jobs to entertainers and town residents and for guildmates and select others i tend to do it at cost or for resources etc.

Feen,
Just looking over your price list - looks pretty good to me, particularly on the high end. Just curious, though - how come some of the items are in bold? Top sellers or something?

I find these prices to be terribly high for what I see on Starsider, and on Wanderhome.

Personally I think the concept of "There is tons on money out there so SCREW um OVER CHARGE" is greedy, it is selfish, and it is short sighted.

I also think that the principle to each their own holds a lot of merit, if you want to charge 10k for an item I will be selling for 7k more power to you eventually the market has a way of sorting itself out.

There is such a thing as customer backlash, those of you who go for the money grab now will in fact suffer to some degree later when people who price fairly are able to compete with you and it is only a matter of time. Some people can grind up to master faster than others; some of us have more free time than others. Eventually though clothing demand will die down a bit, and there will be more competition. Some consumers remember things like being robbed blind for an item.

Do as you wish, it is all well land good but for the love of god lay off the people who do not share your "they have money so screw them" mentality. Frankly I find it unethical, and I find it stomach turning that you actually feel you can defend this lien of thought at all.

Those of you, and you know who you are who practice the "screw them" business practices have loud voices on these forums, it does not make you right. It does not make you wrong either you are free to do, as you will, I will do as I wish as well. I will thank you to leave me and those like me to our decisions.

The bottom line here is, you cry as loud as you do because you are afraid other people who price fairly will impact your business. Well boo hoo, welcome to reality. Charge fairly now and you wont suffer later, I am not going to run a cut throat selfish business because YOU want to screw people and get rich.

Likewise the comments in the other thread like " I charge as much as I do because I want to own a big house someday" are really pathetic, that's right PATHETIC. I want to own a big house in real life someday but I am not going to SCREW people over to get it, I will work for it and I will earn it. At the end of the day I need to be able to look myself in the mirror and be proud of whom I am, I am not going to prostitute myself and my reputation out because YOU want to over charge.

Hrmmm haven't we been working for it, and earning it with our tailoring? This is my line of work, this is how I make a living, this is my job.....and personally, I think the time it took me to get to master Tailor, the amount of money I spend on harvesters, factories, supplies.. is dang well worth more than the paltry prices you're apparantly charging.

People charging 2k or less for a Master Tailor item.... hrmmm yeah that's uhhh one gnort mission. Yep lets give ALL noobie entertainers a bikini for managing to slaughter the gnorts. Right on.

I charge more than some here, less than some here. Whatever works for you. But after all the hard work I've done to become a Master, and all the money I see people making from missions, you can bet I wont be selling any Master item for the price of one gnort mission.

If that's "Screwing" my customers.... well I guess I'll add in a tube of KY with their purchase.....

Excuse me but how would you know my prices are "paltry"? I don't remember mentioning how much I charged for items anywhere; your opinion is without merit as it is clearly based on assumption and not fact. More over since you did not take the time to find out the truth before putting forth an uneducated opinion, that leads me to conclude your opinion is not worth the item it took me to read it.

Do I think the time it took you to master tailor is worth nothing? Clearly not, nor do I remember saying anywhere I thought this so again, you are barking up the wrong tree. What I in fact said is plain for anyone to see, if you would like to address my specific points, or find out information about me so that we can have an adult conversation on the topic let me know. This post you put out there is a waste of all of our time.

Let me give you a little something to base an informed opinion on, business is what it is. You spend x amount of dollars to make x amount of profit. Some companies make more profit than other companies. Nike for example runs sweatshops where they take advantage of under privileged people, and their profit margin is huge because of this. Does it make it right? No it is illegal.

If people running missions can make more money than you do tailoring, and money is all you care about then I suggest you run missions.

The bottom lien is we decided to be tailors, it is not a glamour profession and never in games has it been the biggest money maker in my experience but it was something I personally have always enjoyed.

I don't do it to get rich, and I won't screw people because they have money.

Period.

If you want to again that is fine by me. Screw people; enjoy yourself while you can.

I will be charging a fair price for my work and I will thank you and people like you to leave me alone. I in turn will leave you alone as well.

But simply put there is a fair and reasonable price that could be established as a base for all tailors to work from, based on solid and sound economic principles. I am in favor of basing price of resources used, factoring into those time and effort modifiers for skill levels achieved and components needed. I am also in favor of charging a sitting fee if you are going to do a custom job for someone, your time is in fact worth money.

I say again I am NOT in favor of screwing over people because you either CAN or want to. It is as I said before stomach turning to me personally.

In closing you know nothing about me so I would appreciate it if you would not form opinions about me without a shred of fact to go on it undermines your own credibility and it insults my intelligence.
