Well thats good hear. I would like to buy bulk, and I have noticed the prices are not too bad, but getting the money to begin with will be a pain heh. Too bad I didnt make this character a month ago lol, could use the holocron money.

I have found that tailoring is a great money making profession even without being a master yet.

First and foremost ALWAYS keep 25 items in the bazaar. What? well backpacks always sell and just about anything you make in solid black will always sell to the point I charge a "premium" for black because I get tired of making black stuff. I make black slacks, black decorative vests, black necklaces(some folks really like these for some reason) and all sorts of black shirts. I've found that whether its a pair of gloves or a swoop helm if you make it black someone will buy it. Even a novice artisan can sell survey tools and generic crafting tools.

I think it was the slope heh. Alright, I have two wind generators, two chemical (one getting a petrochemical polymer (92% woooo) and another getting fiberplast) harvesters and one mineral collecting copper (general metal for general crafting). Things are going good right now, until I need the specific materials... that should be real fun lol. You guys have been a great help, now I just need to work on getting some credits to upkeep, upgrade them harvesters and get a swoop bike.

Don't believe it! I've never had a shop and am well into my first 1M credits. Of course, I'm a fairly casual player and don't want to spend my game time "working" at a shop.
I too have Pistoleer and Scout skills. Very useful going in groups to the adventure planets to get hides. And they compliment each other. If i'm going to be killing things to level my combat skills, might as well harvest hides too, eh? Personally, I use a lot of hide in my crafting, so Scout is a huge bonus.
I don't use generators anymore. Buy all the power I need (but may invest in a Fusion). Setting up my med. harvesters on a good spot for a couple days gets me at least 10k worth of material, which lasts over a month for me.
Is it fun? Yep! Somedays I get bombed with orders. Other days I can run around Coronet starport for hours and not hear a peep.

I really don't think you can argue this. The fact of the matter is, the easiest money you'll make as a tailor is the sales that come from your vendor. Youspend far farless time making those clothes, you don't have"do-overs", and you don't have collection problems. I have no doubt that some have done very well doing custom orders only (in fact that's what I've decided to do now), but the fact is you'd have done far better if you had a vendor (assuming that was a goal).

Depends - I find that custom order people tend to throw in "a little extra" for my time. But yes, the vendor sales are easier because they cut down on aggravation and allow the customers to browse - and they don't know what the schematics look like, they need samples. I never thought I'd do my majority of sales through the vendor, but even my favored customers will ask me "is x on the vendor" rather than "can you make x" b/c it's easier for them to just run to the vendor and pick it up.

Just listening to you guys talk about this, I have learned alot. One question, and I think I know the answer, do you ever use factories? I am guessing no.

I have 2 factories that I use constantly. I need crates of synth cloth and reinforced fiber panels for almost ALL the high end stuff. My BioGenetics factory is contantly spewing out tissues for my clothing too. Factories are a MUST for tailors. A minimum Must-Have is at least 1 wearable factory to produce synth cloth and rfp for your product.

You will eventually need a wearables factory to make some of your components. Plus, it helps just to be able to carry around crates of materials instead of having to make them each time you need them for a piece of clothing. I even have crates of cargo pockets for making packs.

I'm not arguing the money might be easier with a vendor, I'm just saying don't feel because you are a crafter that you have to do it. I can't afford the points to advertise myself on the map and there are already several tailor shops where I would like to have one. IMO, there's no point in setting one up out in the boonies, it's not easy to get to and there would be less traffic passing by. Plus, the idea of having to restock for a couple hours when I could be out seeing the galaxy and meeting people fills me with dread.

Been playing since launch avg of 10-15 hours a week, just made Master at start of December, had about 900k in the bank. From this, you can see I did little in the way of grinding. Done nothing but custom orders and Bazaar sales. It all depends on what style suits you. Play around, see what works for you!

I generally give "on the spot" orders a discount from my normal pricing and they tend to tip well over what I would normally charge

No matter what crafting profession you pursue, do yourself a HUGE favor and get a droid with a specialized crafting station. You'll thank me later

You'll need a factory, but it's not a necessity until you get to around a 3rd level box in tailoring (it's a convenience to have one before then, but not required). I have very easily gotten by with a single wearables factory. Basically, I did a ton of factory runs early on, filled up my output hopper with nearly 100 crates of stuff, and then have been just in the mode where when I need em, I pull crates out of the factory, and every week or so I do a few factory runs, replentishing what I use, and filling back up the hopper. It's nowhere near 100% utilization, not even 50%, but then again I don't like to sell crates of cloth or rfp, so I make only what I use.

That is what I would, make what I use. I will say this though, grinding novice tailor now... wooo doggy! I am starting to feel the money pinch, keeping up factories and buying stuff I need. Having a blast though.
