With correct gamma and brightness settings, black does actually look like black. Anyone claiming it looks like grey got his brightness and gamma settings cranked up like nuts (either in the game or on the monitor itself). A lot of people seemed to have cranked those up because of the darkness at night, where you see almost NOTHING, even with that midget lightsource.
