Tailoring Poll

I thought it would be interesting to see the business practices and thoughts of the posters on this forum:

1) What level tailor are you

Master tailor

2) How long have you been a tailor?

Since lateAug 2003 I believe

3) What made you decide to be a tailor?

Was burned out on being an architect, hated the cutthroat nature of that profession and wanted a profession that was less popular.

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor?

I enjoy the face-to-face nature of being a tailor, and relish some of the customer-client relationships that I have. I still think it is one of the most unique crafting professions in the game.

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why?

No, but I'm semi-retired

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer?

I keep about a dozen bio clothing items on my vendor, otherwise all custom orders.

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot?

All of the above

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining?

75% buy, 25% mine

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house?

located in a tiny, now defunct city in southern Dantooine. Medium Generic shop, small generic "tailor workshop".

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant?

my own

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes?

2 vendors, one for bio engineering stuff, the other for everything else.

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor?

200-300 in each one (owch, that nerf is going to hurt )

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors?

nope

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color?

I keep it simple, ex: muscle shirt - black

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers?

definitely, I supply my own

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out?

90% custom orders. Everything I make eventually sells out.

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level?

probably one of the highest on the server

18) Do you use the bazaar ever?

I used to, stopped doing it, but will again when the price cap is changed.

19) How do you advertise your shop?

I don't, lol, high traffic is not a goal anymore

20) How do you perceive your workload?

Pretty light and free, no longer a slave to the vendor. Only maybe a half dozen custom orders a week now.

21) Is there too little competition? Too much?

To little probably, especially on Dantooine

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how?

My location and the fact that I don't wear my tag that much has severely limited it.

23) What is your returns policy?

100% returns accepted, no questions asked if the item returned is from me, and has 1000/1000 condition. I think in 7 months I have been a tailor I have had a grand total of 2-3 returns.

24) What is your discount policy?

heavy "karma tax" on people that are rude and obnoxious. Since I mostly do custom orders now, my prices change almost daily on a whim depending on what type of mood I'm in, lol.

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing?

I wouldn't be opposed to them, but have never had one

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing?

heavy "karma tax" applies

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times?

No, if I'm on as this character, I'm there to craft.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates?

N/A

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports?

Yes, all the time

30) When do you put your tailor tag up?

sort of randomly. When I feel in the mood to make some clothes.

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo?

tailor/bio engineer/merchant for obvious reasons.

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)?

Yes, same server. Carbineer/ranger/CH

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main?

Bio engineer I consider my main nowadays.

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt).

Right now, probably about 10% of my time.

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character?

Nope, no combat skills at all. My combat character enjoys doing NPC faction missions as a covert, but strictly no PVP.

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial?

Yes, but the politician quit the game, lol, so it's falling apart. It was fun, I can't say it was benefitial.

Tailoring Poll

1) What level tailor are you?

1-2-1-0

2) How long have you been a tailor?

Actively, about one month, before that I was working on tailor here and there very slowly for about a month.

3) What made you decide to be a tailor?

Initially it was because I was a musician and wanted to make my own clothes for free, then I got totally addicted to crafting!

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor?

I really enjoy making things and selling them that ppl enjoy. Nothing makes me happier than to log in and have new mail announcing sells I've made.

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why?

Haven't even given it a second thought yet.

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer?

As I am not master yet I don't actively seek out custom orders, i have done some for a few ppl, but not many. I have two vendors I sell from, prefer that so far, just because I usually don't have the schematics yet for the clothes ppl ask me for when they contact me for custom orders, I hate having to say, "Sorry, don't have that level yet".

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot?

NA

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining?

I do all my own mining and I also hunt for the hides I use. I don't buy any resources.

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house?

I have two vendors set up in our town mall. I prefer this to a shop as our town is on Dantooine and I don't have planetary advertising, I find I get more traffic in our mall than I did when I had a vendor in a shop. I also place items on bazaar to get my name known as I am still new to this.

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant?

I have my own vendors,I have up to Merchant 0-0-0-2 so far.

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes?

Two vendors, one Wookie and one Non-wookie (hehe).

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor?

Non-wookie vendor has about 500 items on it, one of each schematic in 10 different colors, wookie vendor has about 100 items on it, one of each schematic in 8 different colors. As vendor limits are coming and as I get more schematics I will have to limit the schemes I offer, but have not done this yet.

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors?

Not enought schemes or True colors as of yet, so no. Once I have more to choose from I may, but not sure what I want to specialize in atm. I do know that I plan on trying very hard to keep a well stocked wookie vendor and use as many colors for their clothes as possible as I get soooo sick of seeing wookies in only brown, black, white, or dark green. I want to be know as the colorist of wookies. (hehe)

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color?

On bazaar I have my name (Valina), clothing piece, color. On my vendor only item name and color. Currently I use color names such as Ivory, Onyx, Cobalt, Blush, Cafe, Champagne, Forest, Burgandy, Pigeon, and Golden. I am thinking of completely changing this system as it seems my initial thought that sexy color names would attract ppl, it's just confusing them in reality. (lol)

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers?

Not yet, but want to.

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out?

NA

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level?

Mid-level.

18) Do you use the bazaar ever?

yes, see above, as a means of helping me get my name known.

19) How do you advertise your shop?

Every item i sell on bazaar gets an e-mail thanking them for their purchase and an invitation to my vendor at our mall witha wp attached.

20) How do you perceive your workload?

Fair. Usually have to replace at least one to two items on my vendor daily.

21) Is there too little competition? Too much?

Not much, our city is on Dantooine and i think there are only a couple of clothing vendors on planetary map.

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how?

As we are on dantooine, it's not most folks first choice for shopping, but on our server dant has a pretty large player population.

23) What is your returns policy?

Havne't had to deal w/ this yet, not sure how i will handle it yet.

24) What is your discount policy?

Haven't had to worry about this yet either, plan on offering a 20% discount on bulk orders, if i ever get any and will count a bulk order of 10 or more of any one thing. Buying 10 different items, no discount, see my vendor. (lol)

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing?

Not yet, but open to it.

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing?

Not yet, but will depend on the order and the time frame.

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times?

Well, don't really have any on duty hours. If I put my tag on, then I am open for questions and/or requests, no tag, no worries.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates?

That is about the only custom orders I have done thus far and will always be willing to aid my guild out in any way, that's just the kinda guild we have.

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports?

Haven't been asked for that yet and will promptly say No if asked. If I am in a starport I am on my way somewhere. Not to mention, starport lag aggrovates me terribly and it seems to be caused by so many ppl just hanging around starport, I promised myself not to add to that problem.

30) When do you put your tailor tag up?

If i'm in the mood to begin getting tells. I was very surprised how many questions and requests I've gotten w/ only a novice tailor tag.

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo?

Pistoleer, to hunt and fight (need crafting break from time to time), scout to harvest hides, merch to sell my wears.

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)?

I have three main char I play on three different serves, this is my only tailor, other two are mostly combat related.

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main?

Since giving up music, tailor is my current main profession, survery/mining is a strong secondary profession as i sell my excess resources and make a healthy profit from that to support myself until i can get to master tailor.

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt).

At least two to three hours daily, it's difficult for me to spend more time on this as i have all the schemes covered so far and am waiting to get to my next level. I refuse to grind, I tried that and I hate it. I can only stand to craft on practice for so long, feel like I am working with nothing to show for it, so that's why it's taking me sooo long to get up near master as I am mainly replacing clothes in my vendor and making a few things here and there for friends or myself.

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character?

yes, as she has pistoleer and is a reb, I take the time to actively fight for my cause.

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial?

Both. They have been for me, but that's because I have a great guild. My guild is very loyal to it's members and helps out in any way they can to support you in your profession. We have many hunters and fighters and they are always dropping off hides for me to use, and it's generally in the 1k range per container, they unlike me enjoy grinding, lol.

1) What level tailor are you? Master

2) How long have you been a tailor? Beta - 2

3) What made you decide to be a tailor? I'm a dancer/choreographer in RL, I have almost 700 pairs of shoes. I have more space in my house devoted to clothes than I do for everything else.

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? Spending time getting a customer happy with their character's image and look. For me, it's about having happy people in the game, and knowing that I was instrumental in getting them there.

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? Nope, never quit and never will. I'll try other professions that don't require me to drop tailoring

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer? I do mostly custom orders. If the customer doesn't like the item, or he/she prefers one of my other suggestions, the pieces that don't sell go on the vendor. I also keep lots of other items on to offer a fair selection, but I am predominantly a special order tailor.

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? Most people know me, are referred to me, or email me direct from www.swgbio.com with their orders. Most often, I am found lagging at starport doors, due to customer requests.

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? Ooooh. I have millions of resources now. I have2 stacks of leather hides that come to almost 200k units. I have my shop walls lined with polymer stacks, fiberplast, steel, copper, ores, and crates and crates of components. At one point I mined all my stuff. But now... I can't imagine that I'll ever run out.

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? Merchant Tent, right beside the shuttleport to my player city.

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? Own

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes? Two vendors. One isPrivate

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? Less than 250

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? I specialize in BE clothing

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? I usually name my clothes by function, so a melee/stun defense shirt would be "Battle Shirt" or "Combat Shirt" as the customer is really the only one that will be looking at this name from now on...

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? Isalasi is my main supplier for BE clothing, though I have bought from others as well.

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? Lined Workshirts, Muscle Shirts, Leather Trim Shirts, Formfitting Undershirts, and Bandoliers are the top sellers, as they can be worn with armour. I keep a good selection of them on my vendor, but also do custom orders as well as on-the-spot sales when at a Starport or cantina.

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level? Low. Not excessively, mind you, but I sell the Grand Ball Gown for 10k, and I have seen it as high as 15k on vendors.

18) Do you use the bazaar ever? Lots of times. I like to have a few small items there to get my name out. When I have a few +2 or +3 bio tissues, I'll whip up something and sell it on the bazaar, and people will know my name from it. They always sell fast.

19) How do you advertise your shop? I don't

20) How do you perceive your workload? Just right. When I want more. I stand at the starport entrance, and strike up a conversation with friends about clothes. Invariably, people will be listening and want to know more, and then I start explaining Bio tissues, or colours, or possible clothing changes... Mostly, people are afraid to ask about clothing. They don't know how to say "I don't understand about clothing, can you explain it to me?" When you draw them into the conversation, it is easier for them to get their questions in and your sales increase as others listen in as well.

21) Is there too little competition? Too much? Competition? I feel that anywhere I go, people are begging me to work for them. I might be the only tailor on Gorath, except that I keep a list of all the master tailors on Gorath that I know of. (The holocrons have made it woefully out of date though)

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? No, I tend to sell to anyone that is willing to treat me well. If they are abusive, then I will not do business with them again. Thankfully, that list has not gotten any names on it yet...

23) What is your returns policy? If it's in 1000/1000 condition, I'll happily refund it or replace it.

24) What is your discount policy? Entertainers get 20% off, and I will tip them with clothes up to a certain value, for their time and effort to buff/heal me. Any order of 10+ crates (shudder) or 50k credits can get up to a 10% price discount. If I enjoyed myself, or have designed a completely unique look (depending on creative feelings) then I might grant up to 50% off.

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? Pricing is as Pricers do. Um... what I mean is, if I you order 100 shirts, then you pay for 100 shirts. if they are muscle shirts, then it's 37,500 credits for the 4 crates (25 per crate) order. But if they are Leather Trim Shirts, then it's 350k and I'd grant a 10% discount on the 4 crates.

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? Most jobs tend to be rush. I will usually increase the price by10% for any rush.

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? Only when hunting, and even then, I will split my attention between combat and customer.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? I do take orders from the general public

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? Some of my best work is at starports

30) When do you put your tailor tag up? I've never taken it down since I achieved Master Tailor

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? I'm ecclectic. I have had numerous professions. I have just surrendered master pistoleer to try TKA. I have always wanted to, and now I will be trying itout. With my luck, the major TKA nerf will come as I get past the 50% mark in it.

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)? Yes - Same- Jedi

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? Tailor is my main

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). 50%+

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? Hehehe, I'd like to think so, but my combat skills are not quite up to par. I tend to cheerfor my side, rather than take an active part.

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial? I am in a player city and I am also in a guild. Neither one has tangible benefits to tailoring, But I enjoy each very much.

1) What level tailor are you - Master Tailor

2) How long have you been a tailor? - Since three weeks after game went live.

3) What made you decide to be a tailor? - Being a casual player with a young child, my frequent AFKs make combat impossible; I loved the crafting system and wanted to try it out. Weaponsmith didn't allow enough customisation, so I tried tailor...and fell in love with it.

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? - Customer interaction, massive customisation possibilities.

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? - I take a break sometimes, and wish for more skill points to play about with. Otherwise, I'm content.

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer? - Both. Custom orders are my favourite.

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? - A blend. I take orders by email to keep them straight, pop them on the vendor, notify by email when they're complete. I don't use backpacks. I prefer in person, on the spot, when time allows.

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? - I mine everything that I can, and purchase what I can't find.

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? - I have a vendor in my medium-size Tatooine home, situated in a player city.

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? - I own my own.

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes? - I have two vendors, one for regular garments, and one for Bio-Engineered outfits.

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? - It varies wildly. I stock BE'd clothing according to tissue supply; the regular garments' vendor has a little over 200 items on it at any one time.

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? - No. I keep a wide range of black in stock for the obvious reasons; I also keep a good supply of species-specific garments in a wide variety of colours.

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? - I don't put my name on the clothes. I always name the colour and trim(s), except for Grand Ball Gowns, each of which have their own name (Phoenix Rising, Ocean Depths, etc)

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? - I do. I buy from my PA's bio engineer when she has tissues made. Otherwise I buy casually from other BE vendors when my stock is low.

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? - I very seldom do custom orders, and prefer not to. Vendor sales are the norm. Bleed items sell very well, as do music/dance and injury/wound. I don't often sell anything with below +5, unless it's for bleed.

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level?- Compared to the one or two 'early' tailors, my prices are lower. These days, though, my prices are the norm...several tailors on my planet have followed my pricing scheme.

18) Do you use the bazaar ever? - Absolutely, usually 20 fresh items per day.

19) How do you advertise your shop? - Via the bazaar, anyone who purchases one of my items there receives an advertising email with latest specials and a waypoint. My shop also has a prominent sign.

20) How do you perceive your workload? - It varies wildly. Tuesdays and Sundays are very busy days.

21) Is there too little competition? Too much? - Just fine for me.

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? - I limit my BE customer base, simply because getting tissues is annoying for me. Otherwise, no.

23) What is your returns policy? - If it's a regular customer who I've gotten a wrong colour for, I swap without question. I don't trade in garments repeatedly, just because a customer wants something new, and I've very seldom been asked to do so.

24) What is your discount policy? - I do discount large orders from a single person. I also offer free matching footwear almost always.

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? - As above. For large wedding orders, I've charged as little as 50% my usual, with bride and groom outfits free of charge.

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? - If it's convenient for me to do so, I take rush jobs, with no rise in price. I do rush jobs for friends and regular customers regardless. If it's a "pushy" customer (I hate that term), the price jumps by up to 300%... I consider that karma.

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? -- If I'm on a hunt with friends, for instance, absolutely. Otherwise, I have no set hours.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? - NA.

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? -- If I have the time and components, absolutely!

30) When do you put your tailor tag up? -- When business is low.

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? -- At the moment I have some pikeman (holo), a bunch of merchant for the obvious reasons, some scout to pick up hides, and some medic to help out with combat.

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)? - No.

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? - Tailor is my main.

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). -- Almost all of it.

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? -- Absolutely.

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial? -- Both. Living in a player city with a shuttleport has given my vendor *huge* business. Being in a guild made little difference, as many of my guildmates were already regular customers.

Tailoring Poll

I thought it would be interesting to see the business practices and thoughts of the posters on this forum:

1) What level tailor are you Master

2) How long have you been a tailor? Since August. I was an entertainer for only a few weeks before I tried my hand at tailoring and fell in love with the profession.

3) What made you decide to be a tailor? Originally it was to make my own clothes as a dancer, but then I began to find more enjoyment with tailoring than I did with dancing... and the rest is.. history.

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? To be honest, I have had several moments where I have wanted to give up tailoring, but a break and restructuring of how I do business refreshes the game for me and allows me to continue on. Also, SWGTailor.com keeps me going. Helping with the site (and having some great people to work with as well) makes me want to do all I can for tailors and tailoring.

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? See above

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer? Both. The Vendor gives me time to actually play the game, but custom orders are what I enjoy doing. It's learning where the balance is that I initially had problems with. Now, I do pretty well with it.

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? All of the above

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? I do my own mining and buy resources when I need to.

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? I have my own vendor, North of Moenia, in my own Medium Naboo House. It used to be a Guild Mall, but when it was my house first, so when I left the guild, the mall was relocated.

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? I currently own my own vendor, but am debating whether or not to contract out with a merchant.

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes? Three vendors, 1 for regular clothing, 1 for Enhanced clothing and one for special orders.

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? Special orders, less than 50 at any given time, Regular clothing, 500-700 and enhanced clothing is around the 500 range.

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? I specialize in clothing that is of unique colorizations, ie not black and white, and not the typical styles. Yeah, I'll carry spec ops jackets, or whatever seems to be popular at the time, but I try to offer a wide variety of clothing in a wide variety of colors.

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? A-Ti's Smock (Black-32 & Red-217). The numbers are for me, to know which color I used and the color name is generic and to give the customer a general idea of the color used.

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? Yes and I have an exclusive contract with a BE, who happens to be my boyfriend.

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? Both vendor and customer orders. Any of the medic clothing sells out extremely quickly.

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level? On the more expensive level.

18) Do you use the bazaar ever? Sometimes. Depends on my mood andwhy I am in a town near a bazaar.

19) How do you advertise your shop? I use the vendor registration. And if I remember, when I throw something on the bazaar I will put my store location in the details section.

20) How do you perceive your workload? If I stay on top of it, it's relatively easy. If I am in any way lax, it becomes overwhelming.

21) Is there too little competition? Too much? Right now there are a lot of tailors on Valcyn who are hologrinders, but I still have my loyal customers and don't really see competition as an issue.

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? I turn people away.

23) What is your returns policy? If I create the item and it's at 100% condition I accept all returns.

24) What is your discount policy? Based on my whim.

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? Yes. Same as regular priced, if the customer is a good customer and has bought a lot in the past, I will give them a slight discount, but if I do, I give it to them well after the price has been agreed upon.

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? Rarely, and if I do, I charge more.

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? Not at specific times, but when I am off duty, I am off duty and won't deal with ANY tailoring issues, including random questions.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? Nope. If I'm not taking orders, I'm not taking orders.

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? Depends on how nicely the customer asks and what kind of mood I am in and if I have a decent amount of supplies.

30) When do you put your tailor tag up? When I'm not in a meeting or out hunting.

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? Polearms, when they gave out the holograms for the holidays, I decided tosee just whatthey had in mind for me. It has made the game interesting and when I need a break from Tailoring I go out with my gigantic lance and kick some butt.

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)? TKA, Different server.

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? My tailor is my main.

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). 80% of my timespent on SWG type ventures, whether playing or mb's or swgtailor, is spent on tailoring.

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? Depends on my mood and the time I have available.

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial? My shop is independent, but I am considering adding a vendor to a player city. I am in a guild. It depends. If I allow myself to cave in and don't say no, it can be detrimental. If I use no wisely then it can be very beneficial.

1) What level tailor are you? Master

2) How long have you been a tailor? A little over 2 months

3) What made you decide to be a tailor? I enjoy crafting for the most part

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? The clothing I can make, seeing people walk out of my shop happy with what i've made them and not having to run mission after mission to support myself.

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? No

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer? I do both. It depends on my mood. Vendor sales give me more freedom but I don't mind custom orders.

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? A little of all. I encourage email for custom orders but sometimes they come in a tell. If they are not sure what they want then I set up a time to make samples and do a fitting. Most custom orders are picked up off of my vendor. I don't do on the spot anymore unless they happen to be in the shop at the same time as me and ask for something specific.

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? I do my own mining and unless I am short on lots the only thing I really buy is gemstone.

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? My vendors arein a large genaric house alone with 2 of my friends vendors not in a player city. We don't call it a mall but I suppose it could be considered that.

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? I own my vendors.

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes?6 vendors, clothing, accessories, bio clothes, deeds and more, orders and one i use for storage

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? 60 and up on all of them

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? No

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? Color and my *name*

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers?

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? Most of my vendor and custom sales come from bio clothing now. The injury/wound sells out first.

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level? Mid-level I think except my bio clothes those are probably lower then most.

18) Do you use the bazaar ever? I still use it as a tool to advertise and to make up for sales my vendor may not be having.

19) How do you advertise your shop? world map, bazaar and word of mouth

20) How do you perceive your workload? Can be very demanding at times. I've learned how to set limits to try and pervent burnout.

21) Is there too little competition? Too much? Maybe to little. There seems to be alot of holo grinding on my server and new customers always tell me they have a hard time finding a good tailor.

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? No

23) What is your returns policy? As long as its still in 1000/1000 condition it can be returned. Then I find out what they didn't like about it and try to change it for them.

24) What is your discount policy? Depends on the person. Sometimes new customers end up with a free item. Most of my return customers end up with a discount esp on the bio wear.

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? I take them and it usually ends up around 20% off or so.

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? It depends on the person but in most cases no, I won't take rush orders because I hate getting a tell every 2 minutes wanting to know if its done yet.

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? Only when I need a break nothing really specified. It just depends on my mood and what I feel like doing at the time.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? I would

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? No, I've learned it's best to keep my supplies at home. If i'm at the starport it's for a reason and that reason is not crafting.

30) When do you put your tailor tag up? Hardly ever now

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? Merchant because I need it and Artisian because I wanted to be able to craft other items.

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)? I have CH on a different server.

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? My tailor

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). Almost all of my time online is spent dealing with tailoring business. Wheather its searching out the illusive BE, looking for places to plant my harvestors or crafting. I have a hard time fitting in other things but it's something i'm working on.

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? No

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial? n/a

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? I have Master Merchant on another character.

11) How many vendors do you have? Onefor clothing. How do you organize the clothes? n/a

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? No. Certain colors? No.

14) How do you name your clothes? BE stats (if any), color and item name. With your name on it?No. Color? Yes.

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Yes. Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? No.

24) What is your discount policy? No established policy.I have discounted by 40% in the past for very expensive items sold to PA members.

25) Do you take large custom orders? Very rarely. If so, what is the pricing? No established policy.

26) Do you take rush jobs? No. If so, what is the pricing? n/a

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? No.

32) Do you have an alt? Yes.Same server or different server? Same. Which profession(s)? My partner and I have 4 other accounts, BE/Chef, Artisan/Merchant/DE, Doctor/TKA, CH/Commando. We share them all, however, I am more likely to play the Tailor character while he is more inclined to play the Doctor/TKA (originally mine).

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)?Lately, I spend most of my time getting pistol experience for Smuggler. Is your tailor your main? Yes.

36) Do you live in a player city? Yes. Are you in a guild? Yes. Are these beneficial? My shop is in a PA/faction independent city. I live in a city that belongs to my PA. I've seen neither to be beneficial in and of themselves. What has been beneficial as far as the quantity of business I have had is that my shop is in an extraordinary location between the shuttle and cloning center in a player city that has a huge draw of large groups of combat players (city radius is just over 1 km from the Krayt Graveyard).

1) What level tailor are you I am a Master Tailor on Gorath server

2) How long have you been a tailor? Since November, 2003

3) What made you decide to be a tailor? I liked designing the clothes and helping people

4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? I like helping people

5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? Yes I've thought about quitting the tailoring business. I partnered with a Master Architect and it has provided variety in my practice. I now also decorate houses and craft furniture, but clothing is my first love.

6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer? I do both. Early in my career I preferred doing custom orders, now I tend to like vendor sales; however I do both.

7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? For my established client base, I usually get an email and leave the pack on the vendor or deliever the pack in person. I do on the spot orders as well when i am in towns. I

8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? I do a combination of both. I have a supplier, a friend who sells me resources at a discount. I also mine my own.

9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? I have 2 vendor sites. My primary site in in the player city of Nexus on Corellia, near Coronet. I have 3 clothing vendors there, a regular clothing, a bio vendor, and an accessory vendor. I just recently removed a tailoring resource vendor from the site. This site is in a Merchant tent that I own. My second site is in the Player city of New Aldera on Naboo near Theed. I am in the process of setting this site up. It is also in a Merchant tent that my Architect partner owns. I have 2 vendors in it at the moment, a Bio vendor and a Clothing/Accessory vendor. I have had several offers to set up vendors in malls, but after seeing the malls, I have declined.

10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? I am Master Merchant, I own my vendors.

11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes? 3 vendors at one site, Bio vendor, Clothing vendor and Accessory vendor; 2 Vendors at the second site, Bio Vendor and Clothing vendor

12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? I have approximately 500 items at my primary site, would like to see that increased; The second site i am in the process of setting up and it has approximately 200 items at the moment.

13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? My Bio clothing seems to sell the best. Colors, I stick to primary colors, the odd colors don't sell.

14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? I do not change the name of the clothing, at the end I do put the color. My name is not on the clothing.

15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? I started out exclusively with one Bio engineer, I helped him level up to master in exchange for tissues later. I got him mastered and then he quit the game. I then started working with another bio engineer. It was a holo profession for him, and he is giving it up. I am searching for a new BE.

16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? I do both custom orders and vendor sales. My bio vendors I keep stocked with 50-75 items, a variety of color and styles of the bio engineered clothing and am attempting to increase quantities but I sell too fast. I seem to be selling out of warcry/intimidation clothing at the moment, before that it was melee/defensevsstun.

17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level? I use Nivea's pricing guide from www.the honorempire.org/swg/nivea/accessories.shtml My prices are mid-level to high on this server because there are a lot of holo tailors that have decreased the prices. I have maintained my prices and have repeat customers. I also use this pricing guide because my mentor Star-shine, who gave me her business, used it.

18) Do you use the bazaar ever? yes at times I put things on the bazaar, but try to reserve the bazaar for lower level tailors

19) How do you advertise your shop? If you can believe it, word of mouth. I do not formally advertise my shop.

20) How do you perceive your workload? moderate

21) Is there too little competition? Too much? It seems to come in cycles, for a long time, there was a lot of competition, then it slacked off, not there is an increase in competition especially since the new schematics have been introduced

22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? I don't do a whole lot of wookiee clothing, I usually custom those to the person

23) What is your returns policy? If you buy something and offer it to my vendor the same day, I will refund your money. Other than that, I do not take returns

24) What is your discount policy? If you purchase large quantities, I usually discount the order for example, synth cloth over 10 crates is sold at 2700/box instead of 3000. On individual custom orders I give a discount per person basis. Guildmembers are 1/2 off at all times.

25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? Yes I do large custom orders and the pricing is negotiable based on the person. I start out at normal pricing and discount it usually 20%.

26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? No jobs are done at my convience

27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? Only when I'm overwelmed with orders or am not doing tailoring such as decorating a house. I remove my tailor title during these times.

28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? n/a

29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? yes have missed many shuttles doing this LOL.

30) When do you put your tailor tag up? The only time that it is not up is when I am overwelmed with orders or decorating a house. During any other time, the title is up.

31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? I am Master Merchant (just mastered several days ago and am dropping it), Master Architect (dropped temporarily to master merchant, am in the process of taking it back) and Master Artisan

32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)? I have a brawler character on Corbanitis server that I play only when Gorath server is down. I do not have an alt on Gorath server.

33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? Tailor is my main

34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). I would estimate 90% of my play time is devoted to tailor or tailoring purposes.

35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? My second business is in a rebel city. Am dropping Merchant to take up combat to defend myself, not to participate in the GCW. I've been killed several times in the past couple of days because of a TEF bug---can't get rid of it and i have NO combat .

36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial? I live in a player city with a secondary site on another planet. I am in a guild with my Architect partner and it is beneficial. My partner and I share resources and help each other out.

Although this is my first submission to the forums, I am not new. I have read every day to every other day the postings. I feel very strongly about this profession but I am discouraged about it. It is hard to make a living as a tailor and we do not get the respect of the other professions. I probably would not be here if it wasn't for Star-shine giving me her business and a lot of her supplies and components. That has allowed me to make money as a tailor. I do thank her from the bottom of my heart.

thanks and hopes this helps your poll
