Thread: Let's discuss colors
The colors I want added to the normal palette are:
- True Black
- True Yellow
- True White
I would like to change the texture on [Make textures an option on all clothing - interchangeable]
I would like to see the following items in the full palette
[X]Everything we can make!
I would rather
[]have expanded colors on the normal palette OR
[X]have traditionally leather-palette items available in the normal palette
Really useful information, thank you all for responding, and for those of you who haven't - rock the vote!
A few points:
- I'm not sure the black/white issue is even an issue. As pointed out on another thread, colors look different based on video card settings, and that may account for the problems with the clothing colors.
- What is definitely a problem, though, is the fact that blacks from different palettes don't match each other (though if it all becomes one palette, no worries there.)
- A further issue related to the above is that clothing takes color differently based on its texture (so some items don't have "true black" or "true white" - i.e. the suit jacket - due to that.)
- Glitter may fall into the realm of texturing, but I don't know until I ask

Keep the answers coming.
Also, if we lobby for leather palette changing, do we also want to lobby for full palette for metal(even though the one we have now is nice, we do have full palette on some jewelry - so why not, eh?)
I want a universal pallette!
I realize the fact that some items are made with different fabrics which result in different color choices. So to make color matching easier... The palette should start with the colors used in ALL items then descend downwards to the more limited use colors.
The palette used for gunner jackets would be at the top of the palette and accessible for each and every item to make easy match ups. Then after that it will connect to whatever palette is next.
Or it doesn't even have to be in such an order. Just a universal palette with some colors blocked out from choosing when crafting certain items. It will allow better matching and make keeping track/naming colors easier.
Actually... Forget colors.
I want the bugs fixed dang it!
Why the heck is there a section for, skirts, wookie garb etc etc... When nothing shows up there? It all heads to misc.
Why don't we have earings?
And my biggest concern... Why doesn't clothing contour to the body? Most jackets look retarded on. About all belts and bandoillers are so absurd looking when equipped you have to laugh at people who wear them and admire their courage.
I seen someone wearing a bandoiller that was bigger then he was! Could barely even see his face 'cause it goes on so stupidly.
- Yellow
- Fuschia
- True black
Ok, I've been reading throught the responses about the color issue and we seem to have a few separate issues:
1) We want new colors. Specifically canary yellow and deep red. This would be a classic thing to "strike while the iron is hot" and ask that those pop into our color palette. Screenies of yellow and deep red that already exist in the game will drive the idea home.
Yellow that we have (which looks like mustard or urine) versus True Canary Yellow which already exists in the leather palette.
Red that we have which is very bright versus The deep red which is only available on the dress robe palette.
2) There is a problem with matching outfits between the leather palette and the normal palette. The leather palette even has colors that the normal palette does not. Also, the supposedly "same" colors on the leather and normal palettes, particularly black and white, do not "match" each other, making it difficult to put together complete outfits. To solve this problem we are requesting that all items take the normal colorful palette. This would include:
- all boots
- all gloves
- all wookiee wear
- schematics:
- luxurious gown
- smock
- desert command jacket
- duster (spec ops and gunman)
- cloak
- secondary color on reinforced pants
- [Please let me know if I'm missing something here]
3) The texturing on some items is oppressive and causes colors not to "take" well. I agree that this is a huge issue, but I don't think it necessarily fits in with "striking while the iron is hot" and trying to cajole the powers that be to open up our palette and toss in a color. However, I am compiling a list of items and have started taking screenies of items where the texturing causes the colors to come out wrong. I'm starting a new thread to deal with this issue.
4) Glitter and Sparklies. This seems to be more of a texture issue than a color issue. Again, I want to see this added at some time, but it doesn't seem to be something that they can just drop into our palette as an afterthought. Remember, we're not scheduled for anything, so I want to make it easy as cake for the devs to just toss us something new, rather than listing a bunch of impossible issues.
5) Black isn't black and white isn't white. Yes, this one is big - again, I don't think it's something that the devs can just drop into the color palette. Presumably they think they've given us black and white, and would need a lot of convincing that this was not the case. Also this issue is tied up in the texturization argument as well as the "matching" issues between palettes.
In conclusion: the devs' attention is focused elsewhere at the moment. If we ask for something complex or something that they think we already have, we'll get nothing.

Great thread, just a couple things to point out that was a request I saw a few times:

GarVa wrote: 2. true black : This most likely will not happen because it would leave you with a void looking black object without texture, and this does not fit with the color "Feel" of the game. (for those of you who played UO, you know how the yellow and black actually look ingame its too intense)
I've gotta disagree with ya on this one, GarVa. The fact of the matter is that black dye tubs have long been a much desired item in the game, because the color was fabulous. What is 'intense' to you is necessaryeye candy to most. If we can't get that deep in to black, perhaps just a little bit darker than what we currently have, which is more akin to a charcoal gray.
GarVa wrote: 3. true dark red [no pink tint] : this is likely your monitor that has too "warm" of a tint personally I have vibrant reds and the Pink one is the fuscha line. The very last red however is very intense fire engine red.
Sorry if I wasn't more clear on this issue. My reds are just fine in game. I was suggesting that if we have a true dark red, that it would be free of pink hue. As others have mentioned, such as on the dress robe. That would be a wonderful dark red. =)
GarVa wrote: 4. True White : while I know we would like it, this really is an impossible option. On some objects, especially of a specific texture there is no way to do this. Because of said texture.
UO has true white, as well as a plethora of uber vibrent colors [such as flourescents] which work perfectly fine with their textures. I wonder is it possible to scale down the forefront importance of textures and come to some sort of middle ground by bumping up the brightness of the white just a bit? That would be a good poll. Would you sacrifice a bit of texture to gain a bit of color?
