Eh... After proving that the devs have in fact lied to the community, I don't put all my trust into their words anymore.
Well, to be honest, I do think stuff could affect us getting four sockets. Whenever I have my +25 clothing assembly suit on, I do get more sockets than when I don't. I tried an entertainer buff the other day, and over half of the 70 shirts I made came out with 4 sockets, and I got many 3's too.
Maybe I am just lucky? I've never had to craft anything more than 7-8 times to get a 4-socket piece.
edit: Oh - Pyrillian cake works too. When I take them, clothing = 4 sockets. (I still gotta try out the good resource thing too... been lazy, hehe)

I use crappy resources mostly and don't have too many problems with 4 sockets. Sometimes takes 4/5 attempts then out pop next 2 in a row with 4. I have to say I "feel" like I get them more often now that I am using my apron and an assemply tape but mebe thats just the game trying to mess with my head ![]()
Swearing at the screen and begging to teh devgods when something important needs 4 sockets sometimes works ![]()
It does seem silly that as a master you cannot have more control over sockets. An experimentation line would be great - afterall you want to make the best possible things for your customers, you master the prof, invest some money in decent equipment and some tapes - and it makes no difference. Doesnt seem right somehow ![]()
Be nice if there was quests or something for master tailors to get extra schems too. oh well mebe one day!

The same happens to me. If I "need" the 4 sockets, I won't get it (especially with BE'd clothing or something that requires sub components like bandos and boots). But if I'm casually filling the vendor, I get quite a few 4 socketed items.

The problem here is that you changed 2 things at one time. There is no way of telling whether it's the +25 to assembly, the high quality resources, or both that affects your success rate.
I have always heard that it is absolutely random. And there are lots of other people who have their own views on it. So, I decided that I might as well use some of the training I got in grad school and do a little statistical analysis of all this. I'll probably post it in a separate thread, but it should be done in a few days (hopefully). Eyeballing the data I have right now, it looks like all I've always heard about the number of sockets on an item may be wrong....

I'm a firm believer that both affect the craft for success with sockets. That's just me. A new tailor on naritus asked me "my secret" and I told him my experiences. He has thanked me repeatedly for his newfound successes in crafting 4-socket clothing.
