Thread: What can we, as tailors, do to improve the starwarsy feel of the game?

I agree that to some extent it's our own fault. I try to stock my vendor with 'realistic' clothes, but if someone asks for a pink gunman duster, well, ok.

Having useful faction armor would do more than anything to promote the look/feel of star wars. None of my guild wears storm trooper armor to battle because thier composit is better. Once in a while someone will wear it for an RP thing, or just goofing off, but otherwise, never happens. For the most part I try to make role appropriate clothes. What do I mean by that? I make camo pants in camo colors. I make leather trim shirts, in colors someone might wear in RL. I use the muted colors for main colors, and bright colors for trim when I can. The bright reds/blues/purple/green i save for trim and use sparingly, unless by request.

As for movie clothes, i recently watched ESB and found several things:

Trim lined shirt- Lando wears a blue one through most of the cloud city scenes.

Cloaked dress - Leia wears one before they meet Vader in cloud city.

Reinforced jumpsuit - Leia wears one of these after they meet Vader.

Side button shirt/Casual jacket - han solo through most of the movie.

Cold weather jacket - most of the rebel command post wear these (in tan) on Hoth.

edit: Scout jacket - Han and Luke wear them while riding the tauntan(sp)?

edit: Imperial Uniforms: Long Formal Jacket, black (for fleet) and gray (for ground pounders). Dress slacks, uniform boots. Too bad the Imperial hat only comes in gray.

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I noticed most.

And personally I steer people away from the all-one-color-itis. You can do it kindly.. "Sure, I can make that black shirt, pants, duster, gloves for you if you want to look like 90% of the people on the server." They might think it makes them look badass, but all it really does it make them look like everyone else. off topic: Image Design revamp did more to un-star-wars this game than anything. Pink wookies anyone?

Being able to package clothing items together without using a backpack would be a HUGE improvement for tailor, which could further let us have influence on the general fashion and atmosphere.

Actually this is an example of "what we should not do to improve starwarsy feeling" ma'am... Last thing that can improve starwarsy feelingis a wookie with "hawtpants" in hot orange really..

Honestly, if you don't want to make hawtpants or things in colors, then don't. But just let the rest of us have the option to if we so desire. I for one would love to see more colorful Wookiee clothing. I cringe every time I have to make Wookiee clothes because of the horrible color selection available.

Please read the topic again before posting your opinions. I don't care what you like to craft. It is something that does not help star warsy feeling. Nobody says anything to your color choices. Why wookie clothing has those colors? Because they are made of "pure" and "pure" from nature itself if you know about Kashyyykan culture a bit.

Have had another thought that would actually give us a little bit more clout to change how people dress.

1) Make all bandoliers hold items, like a backpack. A mercenary bando that holds 50 items is now a reward for the Novice Privateer JtL quests. This will mean that people are more likely to wear bando's rather than backpacks - and there is a lot of different designs of bandoliers available for us already.

2) Make all belts hold 5 items, taken from your main inventory allowance. If equipped, then the 5 items within the belt are displayed in a special toolbar, so that you've got quick click access to them (ie ideal for grenades, weapons etc).

3) Allow armoursmiths the ability to make armour panels, that can be incorporated into reinforced fiberplast panels, instead of a BE component. Don't bother with experimentation for the armoursmiths, but allow tailors the ability to experiment to give a base armour protection of between 1% and 5%. Armour panels should only need 25 metal or similar, so that we arn't going to get ripped off, and make them a novice armoursmith item (or Engineering IV). This would mean that people can actually wear protection most of the time, given only low-end protection, but fairly cheap and cheerful, and much more characterful than equivalent 'armour'. I don't think that armoursmiths would have much problem with this (some will - but some will always disagree). Possibly also make these clothes take damage the same as armour, so that we actually get a bit of repeat trade!

My thinking is that somehow as a 'community' we need to force the opinion into the game that wearing clothes is both cool and trendy, but also beneficial, so that people need to make a decision wether to go for clothes, armour, or a mixture of both. I'm fairly confident that people would go for a combination of both, and by adding in an option between BE enhanced and regular clothes, this would actually make this a viable option for many people within the game.

I think that the male characters need to have more of a varity of clothing. The female characters are swamped with nice looking clothing but i dont think the male characters have that kind of choice. Of course this is comeing from a girl who has a male character (Me and my bro made twins) and misses having all the clothes to choose from. I think that the people who play this game because of the films want to see more star warsy feeling clothes and to have a sertain atmosphere to the game. But for the people who play this game because its just another online game they play and not because they are a fan of the movie dont really care about the types of clothes etc. The thing that I would love to see implamented into the game is a special feature that lets tailors design their own clothes by choosing from different arm pieces that are in the game and different pieces of everythink allowing the tailor to put them together to make new clothes. The tailors need more control over there designs. Another way is to let us colour any part of the clothes by pressing a section (click and drag) and puttings a colour. This way you could have new, origional clothes and not look like everyone else. Tailors at the moment cant do much to make the game have a more star warsy feel but the SWG makers can by adding more clothes, adding more control to the tailors of how they create and design the clothes ingame and most of all get more clothes seen in the films.
