Thread: ANYONE ELSE HAVING THE PROBLEM OF OTHER TAILORS BUYING UP THEIR INVENTORY FOR RESALE?

Recently had 1 person, obviously a new merchant, start cleaning out my vendors. Now, I do want to sell at the prices posted, but I try to keep my prices fairly low & reasonable so everyone can afford them (and since my server has seen an upswing of new players, I'd like them to afford some nice things), as well as keep my regular customers coming back. Ibanned her from the vendor house andsent her a tell that if shewanted to stock a clothing vendor without doing any of the work herself, or if she's outfitting a guild, to please offer me a business arrangement for me to produce items for her. Of course she ignored me. I was also in the process of moving the vendor house from 1planet to another. That took me a whole afternoon. After it was done & the new one set up, I logged for 2 hours. When I came back on, I had vendor sale email one after another, and guess what? Yes, same person trying to cleanme out again. Once again she was banned and was sent an email this time stating to please not clean me out,my reasons why,and to consider making an arrangement with me to produce for her. No answer (what a shock).

I told a few people about this person, and low and behold got the 1)why did you ban her? she's buying what you're selling or 2) Hey! She did that to me too! responses. I explained to the first set of responses that I don't believe she needs over 400 items of clothing to change into, including 22 pair of identical uniform boots ... it's fairly obvious what she was doing and stocking her own vendors at my expense, not to mention I seldommass factory produce items and hand craftapprox 95% of my stock (exception being things like some boots, gloves, or the cloaks). It's also a matter of pride that I don't overcharge for my clothing, and that I enjoy people looking good and rp'ing through the clothing they wear. I explained to the second set of responses what I had done and they said they would do the same. To date not one of them got an answer from her.

So the long and the short of it is, even though we are selling items and should technically not complain about a huge lot of sales, it's still a real tick off to have to deal with players like the one I dealt with, and to have to start all over restocking vendors, and more of a tick off to not be able to restock our BE vendors at this time. All I can say, thankfully tailoring is a real hoot to me, and time to get crafting!

Cheers!

Whats the problem? You sold all your stock for the price you wanted, is their money not good enough for ya. However, I agree the standing in the mall spamming wasn't nice, but then business ain't. Just ban them from the shop if you don't like it, then the city.

I've had 2 run ins with to people selling BHer droids moaning 'cause I've brought all their stock to resell it. Thats all I did. I didn't stand outside or inside their shop and spam. If you don't like that, don't have vendors. Your selling the stock for the price you asked, so there should be no problem. The "oh but i don't want to have to keep restocking my vendors or having to craft several sets of boots each week" argument is just poor. If thats the case, don't have a vendor and don't craft.

Its the name of the merchant game I'm affraid. The 2 people that I've run into have done well to stop me buying their stock. 1. One of the crafters has banned me from the shop, which wouldn't stop me as I'd just get loads of friends to buy the stock. 2. They've now named their stock including the price this near enough kills be able to resell it. So there ya go. Learn from those to.

But I say again. If you don't like people coming and clearing out your vendors. Don't use vendors and don't craft.

I myself, sell crates of Artisan foods at rock bottom prices on Gorath, in my shop and on the bazaar. I'm sure some people buy it to sell it on. Am I bothered? No. Why? 'cause I keep my vendors well stocked and they are buying them for the price I'm asking so we are both making money

The problem with this is that some of us are in it to please customers, not make money. I know when I ran my set of tailoring vendors, I enjoyed keeping a stock of two of each item (and yes I did burn out) so that the customers would have a selection of clothing to buy. I didn't and don't need the money. Potential customers aren't happy when they come toyour shop to find empty vendors.

Take your vendors off vendor search then and it will also cut out the problem. I doubt people would visit your vendors if they are empty now anyway as they don't appear on the map anymore when empty.

It's the name of the merchant game? Actually it's not, if you treat your fellow players with respect.

This is not real life, this is a game meant to be relaxing and enjoyed by the people playing. Obviously you're aware that you've negatively impacted the game play of at least two other players... you're even proudof being able to get around one of their solutions. Instead of using friends to enter the shop, why not show some decency and offer the person a contract?

I'm not sure why you feel the need to take advantage of someone on a video game, only you do. I certainly wouldn't be proud of that and post it on forums, though. Sad, sad.

I'd care. Which is why I no longer keep a vendor. I take special orders only, so that I can interact with the customer, set my price, and enjoy my proffession. When I need money I throw things on the bazaar, but my main purpose as a tailor is to enjoy myself. Staring numbly at a vendor doesn't do that for me. Pleasing customers does.

This kinda sounds like standard business practices foran ever growing portionof real world companies nowadays...

I agree that I don't see what the CSRs could really do about this, as morally wacked as it is. The buyout of your stock for resale seems totally defendable to me, but spamming their vendor coords in your mall is pretty damn cutthroat.

When you put up your items on a vendor, you set a price that includes how much for the resources, your time, and a reasonable markup for yourself. If you put up X amount of items at Y price, you're expecting to sell all of them. If someone bought them all up, you've sold all you expected to sell in the first place. You have no real harm coming to you because of this. If a reseller or a normal customer bought them up, you would have no difference at the end of the day.

It is true that if you have lower prices, they will go to you. I always look for the lowest price. Some people say "If they buy your entire stock, then the customers will go to them"... but even so, at the end of the day, you sold all your stock. If they stop buying up your stock, then people will go to you.

My point is, at the end of the day, you have the same result. If this bothers you, you can put the price and the WP of your vendor on the item so that it cannot be adequately resold. That's a quick and easy fix to the problem, and it's something that most (or at least many) crafters do already.

I had something like this happen to me recently with someone buying up all my Hooded Cloaks. First time, just laughed about it. Second time (I had put even MORE hooded cloaks on my vendor) I got a bit upset. Checking the times of the sales, I realized he had wiped out all the Hooded Cloaks an hour after I had logged. Leaving my vendor without Hooded Cloaks for almost 23 hours. I sent him a gmail explaining that although I appreciated his business, that wiping out my vendor of one particular item so that no one else can buy one, was not cool. I also explained that he was banned from my tent until he could provide a legitimate reason for why anyone would want THAT many hooded cloaks. He replied that hewas stocking up on them so he can hand them out to "New Recruits". So, I replied with an offer to make Hooded Cloaks in bulk for him at a discounted price. He agreed and I haven't had any problems since. I put up a crate of Cloaks on my vendor each week and each week, he buys 'em.

So, it's not that I don't mind people buying my stuff, I mean, that's why I sell clothes on vendors. I do get upset if they consistently leave my vendor empty of an item, which leaves other customers out in the cold. Usually a gmail can clear things up, unless the person is a smacktard - then good luck.

I think the point that some people are missing is - Most of us don't CARE about making oodles ofmoney. We do it because we like providing good looking clothing for everyone. I have no need or want for mountains ofcredits, I have nothing to spend it on other than maintenance. I sell my items at the lowest possible costs to make sure everyone, no matter their profession or level, can afford to buy something better looking than the starting clothes. Sure, it makes sense to be happy your clothes all sell out at the end of the day. But, what about that person that came looking for something in particular? Only now, theycan't find it because some greedy merchant bought all 50 of the same item to make a profit somewhere else? Then said person that can't find the item their looking for might think your vendors suck, because it doesn't have a single XXX on it and never return. That's the suck part.

Hopefully the people buying the clothing will notice the "created by.." tag when they examine it.

A guild mate had a problem with someone doing that to his chef vendor, he turned around and put his vendor location and how much it was on the item itself. Everytime you ate his food the message that flashed was : If you didnt buy this from (location) (for this much) you paid too much for it. That ended the person from clearing the vendor FAST! One option is to put the price of the item on the item itself and your vendor location and/or raise the prices. Have you tried emailing the person to ask them why they think they can wipe your vendor and re-sell the items? If you wanted to be really nasty find out where there vendor is and place a harvester in front of it directing other's to your shop? Placing a harvester down is not griefing as one CSR told me.

WOW! Great idea!!!!
