Thread: Are you a tailor for the love of the prof or as a business...
I'm a tailor for the love of it. I read on this thread that some people are in it for the money, that's great for them but personally I don't see how you can make any profit at the moment with the BE clothes being broke.
I guess I just don't charge enough credits for my items, but to be honest that's fine. My goal is to have every player on my server own at least ONE piece of my clothing. I took up tailor because I was a complete clothes horse. I had a house full of clothes, a factory, and then started filling another house when I thought why am I doing this? Why not become a tailor and make my own things when I want it and when I grow bored with it resell it or give it away. So that's exactly what I set out to do. Now almost two years later I still craft daily, I love dressing my guild members. It's fun to see them so happy when I make them a new outfit on a whim and they try it on and look spectacular! I rarely get bored with my profession, what I do grow bored with is the endless ungratefulness of players who whine for you to make them something and then don't even have the curtesy to thank me. I'm not looking for hardcore sucking up but an acknowledgement that I dropped everything else I was doing to go to my shop and craft something for them would be nice. Now I have learned that some people I make wait, some I will drop all I'm doing for them simply because they honestly are thankful for me doing so.
When I do find myself in a rut and thinking of perhaps dropping tailor for something else I stock up my supplies and tailoring droid and head for Mos Eisley. There I sit and craft new stylish clothes for the beginning players who for the most part are so HAPPY to have something nice to wear that it really brings back the feeling of why I became a tailor. If you haven't tried this I suggest everyone do at least once. There is nothing more satisfying then seeing a newbie wookiee or Ithorian in a stylish outfit!! It just gives them a sense of pride. It has also given me the oppurtunity to make some very nice friends and guildmates from my little ventures. Good Luck to all my fellow tailors! Don't let this BE clothes bug drives us down, keep creating!!! We help make every player individuals in this game!
Tailor is going to help pay some of the bills, but I'm doing it mainly for fun. I like dancing in a cantina and changing outfits mid dance (neat trick if you can learn it) just for the hell of it (now if they would let me craft while dancing I'd be happy)
I also outfit newbies in Mos Eisley, just so they don't look so fresh off the shuttle.. (less sharks after their BARCs that way)

3 or 4? How about just 4? lol. Seriously, if you're going to go to the trouble of setting that up, may as well do it right, no?
Actually though, this really is no longer practical to do anyways, what with the factory bug and all. It used to be that you could burn 10 items to make 1 schematic, with the knowledge that you'd crank out 100 or more of them with 4 sockets. But c'mon, nobody is crazy enough to fill a vendor with 4-socket hand crafted items... are they?
As for why I'm a tailor.... I've had a fascination with them since the day I started playing. Unfortunatly for me, my first character was a Wookiee, and she took up some tailoring just to make herself clothes, because no one made any girly ones. After a while, I switched servers and was introduced to entertaining. My main at the time was a Master Dancer/Entertainer and I hada hard time finding the clothing I wanted. Most of the tailors at that time on my server were starting to disappear, and I loved clothes. So I bought a 2nd accountand started grinding tailor to make myself clothes. For me, it started out of need, but quickly became a passionate obsession. More often then not, my "main account" rarely sees the light of day anymore, she has since converted to combat and has become my hide supplier and my outfit trier heh. I've commented that I'd be tempted to respec my tailor, but not to drop tailor.. but to drop my merchant and artisan for something more interesting, but after reseting up my shop for the 3rd time that idea has quickly faded. All it takes is one customer coming into my shop and going "wow" to remind me why I've stuck with it, and why I'll probably always keep it.
I just love my tailor/ID combo...I did respec out of it and wasnt too happy otherwise. I've got 3 characters to play around with so I can pursue other interests as well. I will say the creds are nice, but if I didnt make another cred I'd be happy cause my toons are all incredibly well dressed ![]()
Much Love
Tailor seemed usefull. Once I make use of all the schems I have, Ioci is no longer a Tailor. SWG can fix it or bork it or delete it, I don't care.
Nobody plays SWG to be a Tailor? No I suppose that is true. Take into account the number of multi account clients, remove the reason to have multi accounts, you still lose accounts. With the current trends, I expect I will be able to run one account, pay one subscription soon. Not sure how that helps Sony but they are the ones shoving it at me.
out of love for the profession ![]()
I have soooo much fun mixing and matching clothes and colors to make different variations on outfits etc, just to see what you can create or what you can alternate to make it slightly different ... I love taking custom orders, because you never know what you're going to get or what the person is going to ask for ... so its always a surpise and the people are so appericahative because you're able to make thier clothes for them and they don't have to go out shopping for it, so it feels like you have really made an impact ![]()
