I'm not quite sure what to do about training requests. I suppose if I got a polite one, I might actually train someone. The first person I asked about training (politely) was rather chilly at best, so I just decided to pay my own way past Novice. So, I'm a little grumpy when it comes to training others.

And maybe this is why.. a couple weeksago I get a /tell out of the blue.. "I'm at your shop." Well, okay.. I assume a customer is there and wants something, so I drop what I was doing (surveying probably) and run back. I get there, and the person invites me to group. Now I had been talking to someone about factory crates the day before, so I think well, maybe this is the person and they want to talk in group and not in tells. So, I accept the group invite. Next thing I get is.. "I need Novice Tailor training." I told them they needed to go to Moenia and pay an NPC for that. Off they go.. a few days later I get another tell out of the blue "I got enough points for a new skill, what can you train me in?" I felt like responding "Do you think I am some sort of NPC trainer, here to serve you?" Actually I wanted to be nastier than that.. so I didn't reply at all. A few minutes later I get.. "Hi." Ignored that as well. I guess they got the hint..

A friend suggested I just respond with "I'm sorry, I've paid for all my training myself and therefore don't train people I don't know."

I hate to be rude.. but until I meet another tailor who wants to train ME, I am not very open to the idea of training others.

Nalinya, you have the patience of a saint. Monday night I almost told that dude to get lost but kept my cool. He kept changing his mind and was a general pain in the rear but you took it in stride. Hats off to you Nal!

BTW missed you yesterday. I closed the deal on those PA uniforms. I sold him on the Belted Jacket (black, red sleeves/collar). Looked real sharp. See you ingame after work (4 cst)

Well I'm not even a master tailor but I get training requests from time to time. If someone asks, I tell them I'll train them for 2K for first tier, 3K for second tier or 4K for third tier. I tell them it's nothing personal but I'm training my competition with boxes I paid for. I have never had a problem, I think I've trained five people this way and all were polite. This way they save some money off the NPC and I get my boxes partially paid for, everyone's happy. If I ever had someone just show up at my shop or even begin to get demanding, there's no freaking way they'd ever get anything from me. And as for the person who mentioned someone wanting free resources, that really cracked me up--so now you're responsible for levelling someone who will in all likelihood undersell the heck out of you anyway? This doesn't even require an answer in my book, just a laugh and an /ignore.

bottem line..train if you want...don't if you don't. Refusing a training request isn't going to make less master tailors out there. They will just find someone else or go to NPC. A few friendly tailors on Tat train skills when it's convienient. Still, if that **edit** that came in (in the orginal post), I would have punted his ass.

There was only one master on my planet when I was going up the ranks and I paid for all training apart from Field 1 I think, mainly due to the fact that I didn't want to bother the other person all the time. Now I am of course getting training requests quite often, and I have not let it bother me really as long as people take the time to come to me and offer honest gratitude.

Paid for all my training by doing destroy missions which was a PITA as I only have 400 hitpoints. So was a pretty pitiful sight. I have to agree people can be pretty downright rude out there in regards to training and other things in game. I never considered bothering other tailors or searching for them as I knew they had other things they were busy with such as having fun or running their shops etc....You did display an incredible amount of patience and I commend you .

I was one of the first 3 tailors to hit master on my server, and we all hit it on the same night. But while I was working up the skill trees I was unaware of them, so had to pay for all my training myself. Kind of made me feel sorry for other tailors working hard and with few ways to get cash, and so I trained anyone who asked unless they were just rude. One in particular sticks out in my mind. She came to me often for training, and I must have saved her well over 50k credits in costs, if not more. But the most I ever got from her was a cheer emote after training her, even when I trained her in tailoring 4 and Master in a at the same time. She expected this while I was in the middle of an appontment with a client to boot. After all this help I gave her, not a word of thanks or any other sign of appreciation. It was almost as if she felt some kind of distain for me because I did train her for nothing. Now she has friends in the town I work out of who spam advertising of how wonderful she is, what great prices and service she offers, etc. I feel used but I suppose it was my own fault for not realizing what kind of person she was in the beginning. I actually gave her advice and tried to help her. So much for generosity, lol.

Then there are truely nice people, like Mai'la. I wish more were like her.

I've seen so many posts from Masters that state they refuse to train because they don't want more Masters to compete with. I'm sorry. How does that work? If the person has the points, and you don't train them, the next one will. Or they'll just cough up the credits to the NPC and reach Master anyway. All refusing does is slow them down. A few minutes.

And why is it only Master crafters are refusing to train? I don't recall folks like Master Marksman, or other combat professions refusing to train the up and coming. Why not? They are competing for the same mobs. With that logic, shouldn't they be denying taining to their competition? Perhaps they don't because when it comes time to take on the big ones, or the many ones... the more the merrier.

Master crafters are competing for mobs too: their customers. Wouldn't it help some to ease the constant burden of tells and mails if there were more well trained Novices to help out? Perhaps the Novices wouldn't be so grumpy about asking for trainingor undercut prices if they thought they could get a share of the pie any other way?

Why don't more people take on an actual apprentice? Someone that actually works in your shop, doing the lower level crafting and running about while you focus on the high end merchandise and weatlhy customers, and in return, you provide them a place to work, a customer base, free training... etc. And get to have more free time to yourself to have fun.

Then there's the fact most Master Tailors seem to stay anonymous or wear another title, making it difficult to impossible to find someone to trainyou at all. I know I've *never* had Novice Tailor or above show up on a search when I was needing training. I don't even bother shouting for Tailor training anymore. Tailors never answer. I'vehad to buyall my Tailor training from the NPC. I never have this problem when looking for my combat training.

Ah well. To each his own. Myself, I train anyone who asks me, if I have the skill they need. For free. It's a nice and friendly thing to do and it certainly doesn't cost me anything but some time. And some of those times I made a new friend while answering questions about the craft. Training doesn't have to be *just* group, clickety, clickety, disband. It's an opportunity to connect. A chance to make the game more fun for the people you are sharing it with.

There are some really wonderful novice tailors out there I train as well. Rava is awesome! He trained me in fieldwear one ages ago, then gave up on the tailoring for a while. He's come back to it, and I train him now. He has always asked, always tipped me (even though I've said it wasn't neccessary), and he tries to come by when I'm not busy so we can chat. Daboora was like that as well. (although now that he's made master he hasn't been by for any more inpromptu parties. hint, hint) There are other novices who are polite as well. But I've made two very good friends while training them. And put two novices on the banned list for my house. Which is a real shame...

And Rava, gratz on the uniform sale. You did a great job with those! <hugs> As for my patience with that guy... I guess it comes back to being a mum of 3. Patience is something I HAD to learn.

wow, i'm really glad i read this post. I just started novice tailor after finishing master dancer and i'm very surprised about how different the professions are. As a dancer i trained ppl without a second thought. I always thought it was cute when someone tipped me for training. Its a little different now that i'm getting tells from dancers who "heard about me, and could i fly out from Naboo to Corellia to train them?" Otherwise, training is a fun way to celebrate some one else's progress in the game.

I haven't gotten much training yet and i'm going to be very careful when i ask. it seems tailors are busiest ppl in the galaxy...(especially when you just got tipped 10k and you can't live another second w/o a new outfit...hee, hee)
