In my experience though, it makes no difference what you charge. Just the fact that you charge at all is too much. I once tried to charge an armorsmith 5k for a schematic, he balked at it. So my price has gone up, lol.

I refuse to sell schematics at any price while a few people accept this, a few even respected my view on not selling for some reason others seem to think that telling me how stupid I was would change my mind. They also always like to tell me they will find someone else who does, while I am sure at the right price someone else will they dont seem to get the point that I just dont sell them.

I believe its bad for trade, not so much for me as a master tailor but for the up and coming tailors selling crates of cloth used to be a good way to get a foothold in the marketplace.

See they would hardly expect a weapon smith to create a schematic for a high level weapon but they think tailors should for clothes as they are lowing in price and some how we are not as important.

AH this brings back memories of a conversation I had with a fairly new player last week

Conversation went something along these lines.

Newguy "hey your a master tailor I need training in fieldwear 1"

Me "okay"

I group with the guy and offer to teach...

failed twice..

Me "errr are you turning the training down are am I trying to teach you the wrong thing?..."

Newguy "NO I'M WAITING FOR YOU TO TIP ME!"

Me "?"

Newguy " YOU SHOULD BE PAYING ME FOR THE PRIVILEGE AFTER ALL I'M ALLOWING YOU TO GAIN APPRENTICE XP YA NEWB"

Me " actually my "Friend" I'm maxed out in AP so it's ME who's doing YOU the favour by teaching you so as you don't have to run off and find another tailor" (as this had been going n I'd searched fro other tailors in the area..there weren't any) "or an NPC tailor trainer where you'll be paying between 3 to 5k for the privelige"

Newguy "YOU'R A REAL A****** AND ....."

Me /addignore newguy.

I just have no time for rudeness on that level it just gets you /addignored so fast and banned from my shops and anyone else I deal with will also be informed of your rudeness (normally leading to a banning by them too) nad anyway when I was training up through tailor I normaly tipped the guy/girl training ME after all I am learning from them and gaining new knowledge...

Kirranas, 100% agreement.

Kegboy, that's a new low, lol, oh man. I think what happens is that this starting with scouting and marksman. So many people have those skills and require mastery of those, that those quickly became skills that you pay people to learn. And it has just kind of spread from there.

I have a master ranger alt, and the *only* random tells I ever get are from people wanting training. And of course as a mater tailor/BE I get tons of /tells for training on those as well. If I'm not in the middle of something, and they are polite, I accept as long as they come to me. If not, I don't even reply. In any case, last night something happend that hasn't happened in a very very long time. I was at the starport and a guy asked me for training. No problem, I trained him in 2 ranger skills. He then tipped me 2k. By my old standards 2k would have been a joke of a tip for 2 high level skills, but I stood in utter shock. It has been SO long since I've been tipped ANYTHING for giving away free training I had completely forgotten that it even happens.

When gaining master ID on TC, one player trained me the entire way up. I tipped him 10k - all the money that I had, and a huge sum on TC. He said he needed the xp, and I didn't have to, but he saved me SO much money and time, it's not even funny.

Pappi, in order to believe that story we'd first have to believe that a dancer was actually not afk while dancing, THAT is a big stretch of the imagination, rofl. I even read somewhere where dancers were finding ways to give mind buffs on afk macros, lol, oh man.

i'm a dancer that's (usually) not afk while dancing i did some afk stuff, didn't like it much... but then i'm on TC, so everything's different O.o

yeah, i've read about in game macros for dancer/musician buffs, which is really annoying imo... another reason i'm glad i'm on TC, the minute someone starts pulling this kinda crap in my cantina i'm gonna take out my ban stick

I actually saw the training thing happening to some extent *before* the holo-mania, which I didn't quite understand at the time. For me, Apprentice XP were always really easy to come by, and I never even went out specifically looking for them. Just in the natural course of events, I'd wind up training people quite a bit.

Heh, I've never searched for anyone to train either. Just wandering around doing my own thing, and if someone /shouts they need training, and if no one answers by the third plea, even though I don't needAP anymore at all, I will offer to train. For free. Happy to be tipped when it does happen... which is rarely. Having Master Artisan and for a time, most of Scout, was all I needed to keep to get all the AP I needed to get the master in the profs I was going for. Hanging out in AH while grinding artisan missions to make enough money to buy a large house was where I got most of mine.

I have maxed out on AP at least 5 times now, but am settled in with my final professions and can't/won't change (not even temporarily to help a guildie grind up some APs off me) so my AP is maxed for good on my Tailor char for now.

I do know that while I was slowly working my way up tailor, with no macros and no grinding, it was during the time when it was well nigh impossible to find another tailor who would train. "No way I am training the competition!" Was usually what I heard. And I was certainly never rude, intrusive, or nagging, and I would always offer to go to them and pay them for the training too. I never once found a tailor who would train another tailor. Whatever. So I bought ALL my tailor and merchant off the NPCs. Only people who were glad to train me were the scouts and marksmen. Go figure. So now I train ANYONE, for free. All they have to do is ask nicely and come to me. Clicky clicky, Enjoy! See ya!

I don't worry about the AP I am going to need on any of my other chars either. It will come. Over time. I'm not grinding, nor in a hurry to master on anything. So whenever I get enough AP... is good enough. It's the ones who are too "busy" to stop and train anyone else, then suddenly are in dire need when they have that last box to go, and the ones that are power-grinding to master instead of just having fun playing the game that have these troubles. I certainly am not ever going to pay someone to allow me to train them though! What a crock that is. AP really is too easy to get if you are patient. Take Artisan to Eng 4 and Bus 4, and Scout to Exploration 4 and Hunting 4 and hang out in AH a while. And Marksman is always in demand. You can't hardly shake the "train me plz!" off your leg if you have a "Gunfighter" tag on. Kaching! AP wealthy.

All very true - I think about 96% of my Apprentice XP came from non-Tailor skills as well (yep, Scout, Artisan and Marksman), and I got all my tailor training from the NPC trainer too. I actually shared the "don't train the competition" idea on a very mild level, so I never bothered looking for other tailors to train me. I never felt bad about paying, and eventually stopped having any problem with "training the competition," when I started thinking about it. Tailoring's basically a mercantile profession. And if I can't make enough money to easily afford the relative pittance the NPC charges, I've got no business being a tailor. And anybody who needs to come to me for discount training, by the same token, is unlikely to be much of a competitor....

Me too, but I think it really is a very different dynamic for something like tailor vs scout. There are SO many scouts, I'm guessing nearly half the people in the game have at least some scout skills, and master scout is required by bounty hunters and rangers. Same thing for marksman (although now brawler is probably catching up). So they really do have to compete with one another to train. It does make sense. Also when you consider just how efficient people have become at grinding. Someone who decides to "go bounty hunter" can literally achieve all the xp they need in a matter of days to do this, and then the axp becomes the bottleneck. What they don't understand though is that it's *totally* different in most other professions in the game.

I have to admit that when I made a ranger toon I had to stand out in front of the coronet starport to get the last 100 axp or so. I wasn't obnoxious about it, and I didn't pay people, I just stood out there and waited for people to say they needed it with a hair trigger on the "join group" button, lol.

I was relating my story to a friend this weekend and got another tell but for synth cloth this time. He was very nice asked how much and what kind of materials he would need. Gave him the info and told him it would cost 40k if he really wanted it and to try a non-Master to get it cheaper and they would surely appreciate the business.
Not only did he say the price was no problem, but travelled out to where I was to get the schematic!
