My take on it is that, in this game, there's a difference between renaming in general, and specifically using the word "Jedi." With the whole force-sensitive slot thing, and nobody knowing how one becomes a Jedi, it's a lot easier for people (especially the younger, unsophisticated buyers) to get the wrong idea, and think that "Jedi Robe" must be especially important or something. Personally, I'd bend over backward to avoid giving that impression, and at most, say "Jedi-style Robe" or somesuch.

All items should now have their "real" name attached, so as far as I'm concerned, it's a non-issue.

Now who wants a pair of authentic casua.... errr, I mean, SWOOPER LEATHERS!

The thing with re-naming is that you're trying to combat RL pre-conceived notions of what something is....

When I first saw the word Smock, I instantly thought about something that a carpenter would wear to keep the dust off their pants.. and thought to myself, 'why would someone buy that'.. then I looked at it.. It was totally different than I imagined.

When I read a suggestion to rename it trenchcoat, I thought that was a good idea.. to a person browsing a vendor or the market, looking for something to buy, you have about 1 second to catch their eye before the move to the next item.. if the word SMOCK causes them to pass by, but the word TRENCHCOAT causes them to open it and look at it.. why WOULDN'T you put Trenchcoat down??

With the new patch that lists the original name of the item, no-one can claim renaming is 'deceptive'.. unless you rename it 'Force Powered Jedi Cloak'..

Cloak, Jedi Cloak, Dark Jedi Cloak.. whatever gets someone to open the window and examine it.. that's the key...

Thanks for the responses, my last comment on this is: If you are going to rename something at least let the customer know that you renamed it so he doesnt berate other tailors (especially me) to make him a jedi xxxx. I know things are labelled now with real names, you know they are as well, but JeDiBoB usually has no clue. So I get tells saying "you're a master tailor, so you have to be able to make this, cuz so ans so did and she's not even a matser"... Personally I still don't like renaming stuff with more than color and creators' name but that's just me, do you what you gotta do to sell your wares and enjoy the game.

Not to mention the fact that when you use "Jedi" and "Cloak" in the same sentence, people automatically assume you are talking about a hooded cloak, which does not exist for males across the Galaxies.

We have the Grand Healer's Robe for women (except maybe Bothans?), and Wookiees enjoy a variety of hoods which can be paired with the smock for a "hooded robe" look.

i renamed nearly every casual jacket i made to 'biker' jacket. It helped people get a very good picture in their head of the style - before they even opened the bazaar query. I sold them by the bucketload. I even placed cheaper - same colour casual jackets in the bazaar and they didnt sell unless all the biker ones have gone.

People need help to visualize. They have no idea what all the schematics look like. I am not forcing them to press the 'buy' button - they only do that if the visualisation adds up to their expectations ( and price limit).

its not being deceitful or sneaky - its trying to help the client viualise so they can see amongst all the other stuff in the bazaar what might be what they are looking for.

I made a brown and white administrators robe. I think it looks quite jedi like. I didnt rename it - and it has sat in my vendor every since. I wish i had named it jedi roobe - if it made someone look at it - and think - hey - i like the look of that - ill buy it.
