I'm sure I'm going to upset several of you with what I have to say about the socket situation...

Yes, I dislike it, I have had to click the "practice" button too many times since Publish 7...but I'm certainly not letting it affect my profession and the way I feel about it.

Quitting the game over it, well, thats just ludicrous IMHO, if you are happy with the game, and letting that ruin it for you, well thats your choice I guess. It's not impossible to get sockets, it may take a few tries...

Anyways, I am not trying to offend or upset, just saying that it's a game, and we each have our own views, I know, but quitting? /shrug

I think for a lot of us it is not just this issue.. I think this is kinda the straw that broke the camels back for many of us.. It is a big issue, and for those of us who have been tailors for a long time, and for whom tailoring is IT, the socket thing can definately be gamebreaking.. I am one of those people more then likely leaving, and I would have laughed if you would have told me I was going to give up my tailoring because of a stupid socket issue.. But, the second the bad stuff outweighs the good stuff, it's time to go.. This is a game, it's not supposed to stress me out, and make me feel over worked.. Everyone has their own point at which the bad outweighs the good.. That's not ludicrous, that's just the glory of individuality.. But, I do know what you mean, and no offense taken here..

What keeps me from leaving is a combination of things. I've been a master for a lot less then most of you, so my annoyance factor isn't as high. Also I get the sense, however misguided, that the Devs really are trying to make this game work for everyone, that they want to see it succeed as badly as we the players do. I suppose I'm willing to hang in there for the time being based on the hope that there will be an attitude shift up the line. I mean, look at what they are doing for Image Designers next week, finally giving us blue hair and a better system of doing business! I could have cried it was so beautiful (To all the IDs, how many people have YOU turned away who wanted blue hair, or green or something else unnatural). I do think that there is a concern for us and our affairs and even though I do feel slighted and gypped I maintain hope.

Don't worry, you'll get cured of that misconception in time...

The thing that galls me about the socket nerf is not the sockets. I've said it before, I'm not one who really dwells on sockets all that much. But the thought that really haunts me here is that they actually expended developer resource to do this, it didn't just happen. They actually looked at it and said "tailors need nerfing". I can't help but wonder if in the time it took to do this if they could have say fixed the necklace bug, or the vendor categories, or....

I honestly don't think that this is how it happened. I think that when they decided to give us experimentation for the wookiee pillows, they copied some code in from another class (either artisan or armorsmith) and they code for sockets came along with it. Our sockets were probably "broken" in the first place. This is why it took so long to get a straight answer on this. We reported that we were nerfed and the dev team who did the coding had no idea of what we were talking about. This probably went on to the design team who saw that sockets were working as they were intended in the first place and most likely there was quite a bit of confusion about what our complaint was.

The problem is that it was too late for them to "fix"sockets without serious problems. If they had done it 9 months ago, maybe there would not be a problem, but now everyone expects 4 sockets from a master tailor. Fortunately, most people understand when you tell them that sockets were nerfed. Anyone who has played any class in SWG for more than afew monthsor so has been nerfedat some point. This doesn't keep them from taking care of their own interests and buying old 4 socket stock, though. Who can blame them?

Not so long ago, even though tailoring was stagnent people were kind of happy about this fact. Yes, we wanted new content and bug fixes, but as long as the devs didn't pay too much attention to us at least we weren't getting more broken! We were kind of like a ball balancing on the top of a hill. Now that they *have* paid some attention to us (and in a way that doesn't give us anything that we asked for) and we *are* more broken it is sort of like we have started rolling off the side of that hill.

Oh yea, and this is my 900th post, so I must talk to much.

I'm staying! I still like tailoring, but as lots of you know, I also have a jedi. That means I can switch to my jedi and play that when I'm not in fear for my life. The stress of that character makes it far less playable than you can imagine. So with that said, I still want to talk about this issue...

I started as a tailor, and that was all I wanted. I remember thinking about working my way up to Bio tissues, adding enhancements to clothes, and loking forward to additions and enhancements eventually. I was naive to think that we'd be able to make skilltapes, or somehow place different skills into clothes for each profession, possibly one day having the abillity to add any modification to clothes.

I looked forward to additional schematics with each new change. They were adding mounts, vehicles, cities, spaceships, and lots more... so it seemed natural to expect the same stuff for each profession. More stuff, more skills, more additions.

What we got was stagnation, bugs not being addressed, bugs being added, sockets being reduced, clothing becoming of little interest for the fact that they serve NO PURPOSE to most of the die-hard pvp players. Sure you can look great, but the ones that care are the players that have been leaving the game because it is not offering them an immersive environment to be part of the star wars universe. The ones that are going to be left are the pvp'ers

Until the game gets to be more interesting, the profession of tailor is going to always be one of the bottom links in the food chain. Image Designers, Tailors, and Entertainers are looked on as extraneous to most. They don't care how they look, and can pop into a holotainer lounge to get their minds fixed if they have to. We serve no purpose as we can't help them defeat a faction base, get uber loot, do the things that they view as the only purpose in the game. More content, less combat would help us. But the developers are focused on the old-school MMO philosophies. Cater to the powergamers and pvp'ers. That's where the money comes from.

all our opinions and thoughts are important, if for no other reason than to prove to the Devs that there are people well and truly committed to the betterment of the profession

Interesting....I was Doupe, Master Tailor on Tarq, (I think I was the 3rd or 4th on the planet post release) Funny thing, I left the game shortly after reaching Master level for the lack of development to fix the old negative enhancement bug on the bio-engineering enhancements and general frustrations with the game stability on my machine. Hopefully they at some point had fixed that, but seems now they just killed the sockets completely, doen't really help make the profession useful.I though after 6 months or so, I'd give the game another shot... My hats off to all that still make clothing, I'll need some new duds soon.
