Thread: Socket Situation? Goodbye for now.

Dear Fellow Tailors,

Well, I've been a Master Tailor since a couple of months after the game went live. Its what I wanted to do in the game, and the sole striving force I've been after, besides flying a ship. I've watched change after change after change in the game, and never blinked an eye. My clientell has been the most loyal bunch of friends I have ever met, and I've provided them with as good a product as I can manage. I have +23 clothing experimentation, and +18 clothing assembly, not to mention high +s in repair. I would go anywhere in the galaxy to tailor a shirt for someone. I had the largest selection of bio engineered clothing I had ever seen, and was thinking about getting a second account to expand....

Then they took away the sockets. I refuse to give my clientell anything less than perfection. I haven't made a single piece of clothing after my initial experiments into the socket reduction. I won't call it a nerf, because the devs have pretty much alluded to it being what they want, for it to be harder to get sockets. But sockets are now impossible to come by. Which makes it impossible for me to do business. Which was the only reason I was playing the game....

Today, I pulled up my extractors and factories, and have pretty much officially left the game. The only thing left for me now is the space expansion, and until that day, I doubt I'll be back in the game, unless the socket issue is resolved. Even if that happens, I'm not sure I'll come back, simply because of how it was sprung on us. I always figured that having 4 sockets was a bug, but they could have told us it was being 'fixed', and maybe even give our correspondant a straight answer for once.

In the end, yes, I feel as though I was lied to, and cheated. I'm paying money for a game to have fun, my idea of fun is making 'hotties hotter' and 'dudes cooler', with what they ask for. And what they ask for is clothing that is enhanced, either with bio stuff, or with enough sockets to fit in all their clothing tapes. And that was completely taken awayfrom me, and the rest of the community, most importantly, my clientel, who seek me out, and wait for me to log on to craft them the perfect outfit.

I'd like to thank NJessi for doing her best in the situation, and I hope you have luck in resolving these issues fem. And goodluck to the community with putting up with the devs not telling when they are gonna 'fix' issues that weren't widely broadcast as 'bugs' when the issues that are widely broadcast as bugs and we want to get fixed are expressly ignored.

I feel the same...There is an overwhelming amount of anger and confusion. As with you, I DO NOT enjoy the Holo grinding part of the game (I have never opened one before ) IDO NOTenjoy the fighting part of the game. I DO enjoy being able to help others and hearing how much they adore my clothing. AllI now hear, on many occasions is, "Why can' t you get four sockets?" Which leaves the responsibility of "TAILORS", explaining a situatation that we still can not comprehend. THIS is totally unfair! I thought about leaving as well..It is a really depressing situation that SOE seems to be trying to make "Crafters" hate their profession so much that maybe they would start the Holo trend. I would quit before I did that!!!

I feel bad that this has pushed you away from a game and profession you love so much...I do not blame you, and wish you the best.

It's very sad that tailors are leaving the game. Honestly, there's nothing that I can say or do to make you change your mind. Things happen as they happen. Yes, I'm trying to change that, but it would be unfair to expect you to wait around until things do change. Hopefully you'll find a reason to return in the future. Until then, find something that makes you happy. It's your leisure time and it shouldn't be a chore.

I think its sad too. I am personally staying because I am stubborn and refuse to let the developers suck all the fun out of tailoring for me. I don't expect things to be fixed quickly. Its a lot of work and there are other things already planned which have to be worked on first. What really dissapoints me (to put it mildly) is that all of our issues get sent in again and again with absolutely no comment from the developement team and then they throw in a nerf, also without making a comment and getting answers about it was like pulling teeth! The main thing that Thunderheart and the others have tried to stress is communication. I know it is too much for one person (Thunderheart) to do alone, but why do we seem to get *no* communication in our direction at all? Are tailors not worth communicating with? Do they have overall plans for us that they are afraid to tell us because we won't like it? (Like maybe they want to turn us into a support class for the other crafters.) All I ask for right now is a little two-way communication to know that we are not hated, or worse yet...forgotten.

Wow, i never even gave sockets a second thought....i dont use them much cuz im not one of the uber-combat/uber rich types that can loot/buy them at will. But i can relate to how something as trivial and small as taking sockets away can ruin the game for someone. I had a similar experiance with the bestine elections.....voted for sean to get the niftyrug. Only.....instead of the rug i got a retarded statue that an archi can whip up in 30 seconds (compared to waiting 2-3 months for it). I actually cancelled my accounts because of that incident, then i got the shakes and had to re-activate

I definatly plan to come back for the space expansion. My goal in the game was to be a tailor that has her own ship and flies about the galaxy meeting new ppl and seeing how much danger I can get my ship into and out of, hehe. I long for the day I hook up with a group that needs to get somewhere and are being chased, and I'm their only way out, and afterwards, they send all their friend to me to get the new faaaaaabulous colors, hehe.

That was my dream.... A dream that has just been shelved. I'm loath to give up my title as the "Best Mon Cal Tailor on Wanderhome...(probably the only Mon Cal Tailor on Wanderhome....)" but oh well. I'll reclaim it in a couple of months, I have no doubt!

Deeya:

I think we are all thinking and feeling the same way as you are. You are not alone, as I always say "Tailorhood is Forever" Hopefully one day if you do decide to come back that there will be all sorts of pluses for tailors instead of negatives.

With all the waves of people leaving, I sincerely believe it is because SOE did not listen to their paying customers. And to keep trying to express ourselves to them with no avail, is just to damn frustrating and not fun anymore...

Good luck in all that you do, maybe if you do decide to come back you will be the 1st starship tailoring, serviced for flying to a location near you

Yeah I didn't think about sockets much until they were gone.

now everyone is wondering where the heck they went and questioning my skills because of it.

I mean most people won't even buy a backpack unless it has 4 sockets. I do not know why, but it happens.

I am now only doing large factory runs and no more custom stuff since I can waste 6 tries to get 4 sockets if I am going to make 50 or the same thing. I do not like it but i will do it for now.

But this has got me one step closer to quitting the profession and maybe the game.

I have crafted hundreds of thousands of items in this game. at one point for my old guild GHOST, I had 5 factories and 20 harvesters spewing out clothing for over a month in order to clothe a 300 person guild. So I guess I have made my dent on this virtual world. Time to go back to the real world where things usually make sense even if they still suck.

I really don't get it I am a novice tailor, 0,4,0,0 and i can get 4 sockets..last night standing in the middle of now where I crafted a full set of weighted wookie clothing for a newbee I got 3-4 sockets to every piece. So, I dont understand how you as a master can not get the 4 sockets.

The only thing I think they need to fix is the experimentation for tailors, we should be able to experiment for special attributes to our clothing we make.

Well as NJ reported (and then quickly dropped... good move!) they seemed to have made 2 changes. The first was that you get far fewer sockets in clothing from the taior tree (like the infamous 0 socket sunguard I made last week). The second was that they seemed to have made artisan level clothing get more sockets then before ROFL (shhhhhh). Weighted wookie stuff is artisan level, so that explains it. My theory is that they take all those sockets that they removed from tailors and gave them to artisans, lol.

Ya know, reading back through some of the links I posted in the other thread from tailor issues from last summer, one thing that kind of strikes me about the whole socket thing is that it makes another problem that we have worse, and that is the looted clothing. It used to be that one of the big differences (besides the colors) between looted and tailored clothing was that the tailored clothing would generally have sockets and the looted stuff doesn't. That distinction, while not totally gone, has a least been diminished, and I'm probably seeing on the bazar(and getting in my own adventures) more looted clothing now then ever before. This is not really a complaint, as I don't see that looted clothing selling very well, just more of an observation. The thing is does do though is it makes your stuff kinda look bad. You know, looted paramilitary cammos in a desert pattern 50cr. Tailored paramilitary cammos in a jungle pattern 6k, lol.

I don't blame you... I've almost always been a tailor and the socket situation really bothers me... I know a lot of people who only buy clothing to put attachements in them.

I find the WHOLE socket problem a HUGE slap in our face as tailors. It's very upsetting & make me mad. I'm tired of the crafting professions getting all the bugs with all the fighting professions getting all the new perks, content, etc. It's maddening.

I too take no real enjoyment from the combat portions of the game (I expect the space expansion to change that) and I do feel slighted. It's nice to find a community who feels the same thing that I do so much of the time. If the tailor boards/community were as annoying as certain other boards that shall remain nameless, then I would have given tailor yp. Seeing the work that N'Jessi and everyone else puts into making the profession better gives me hope for the future. (The the devs will be impressed enough by our work to give in to we "simple tailors")
