Thread: whats the point in selling synth cloth?

I take the view why not its all profit and time = profit.

If my factory is not going 100% of the time then its losing me money thats not good,to stop and re-deed it costs me money. No matter how much I play and make clothes I cant use more cloth than I produce in the factory. So rather than having it still their not doing anything I set it to make cloth to sell.

My point is this selling the crates of cloth is more profit to me than the price I can sell the poly and fibre I mine. The cost I can sell poly and fibre is higher than the price I am mining it at. I am mining more poly and fibre than I can use in a single day.

Basically if I am not selling crates of cloth then I am losing money, its not as if I can in that day if I dont sell crate of cloth I can sell more clothes it does not work that way which is where so of you are going wrong.

its not

selling crates of cloth = loss of selling clothes

but

selling crates of cloth + selling clothes

Also it has to be said people do buy cloth in bulk and 40 crates at 3,000 ago is still profit its not as if I refuse to sell them cloth they will buy 40 crates of pants at 750,000

Hmm.. well you can sell resources generally at 3cpu, crates of cloth at 5cpu or clothes themselves at 10cpu and up. I just sell clothes, and make a perfectly respectable living at it.

I guess maybe people harvest resources full-time? Their harvesters are always working somewhere? Then I guess it does make sense that you have to sell crates of cloth to keep making money.

I do it differently - I have one medium chem now that is BER 10. I put it on fiberplast for a week, then maybe polymer the next week. I have a few medium minerals, but I haven't had to mine any metals in a while now. I also have a fusion generator that I drop when radioactives shift, wind up with 100K power, and then keep it in deed form until I need more. Right now I don't have any harvesters down at all.. I probably have 100K fiberplast, 50K polymer, and a month or more supply of metal and gems. The only thing I need at the moment is the ore for making belts. I'll probably just buy some on the bazaar. My "casual" mining/harvesting operation took care of the ~1200 or so items of clothes I sold last month.

So, for me to start selling crates I'd have to harvest all the time.. why should I do that when I don't need the money, and I don't particularly like having to run all over to harvesters every few days? I guess I don't get the attitude that there is something wrong with me because I don't want to sell crates of cloth. I think novice tailors working their way up would welcome the additional way to make money.

And for the person who thinks that tailors are showing 'bad attitude' here.. I can tell you I happily provided crates at reasonable prices until the requests got unreasonable. If you are an armorsmith and send me a tell wanting cloth ASAP so you can grind out that next box or two.. why should I have to run 4Km round trip to deliver it to your shop? That's just inconsiderate in my book. If you ask me to sell you something on short notice as a favor, then at least have the decency to come pick it up. (Since I have a hard time saying "no" I actually did deliver the cloth.. but that was the beginning of the end of my cloth selling days).

The thing is (and, yes, it kinda surprised me when it happened), I've found myself regularly *having* 16 crates of RFP and the like just lying around. And I'm also selling about 75% of my stuff to an armorsmith who's a friend and neighbor, so that's pretty painless, and the rest on a "here, it's on my vendor, take it or leave it" basis, so I don't get into a lot of spats with cheapskate armorsmiths anymore.

Oh, just incidentally, for anybody who is interested in selling components, Armorsmiths aren't the only ones who need this stuff. Architects use Synth Cloth (in fairly significant quantity) for a lot of furniture, and the new Merchant Tents use both Synth Cloth *and* Fiberplast Panels. So I always stick a few crates of the regular Fiberplast Panels on my vendor too.

seems like the devide is between those who mine for themselves and those who don't!

Those who mine for themselves and can get 5k a night or more of stuff are happy to make them cause they can do huge runs.

I buy my resources (no freakin lots right now cause of my two factory's, 2 house shops and 1 storage shed and 2 small harvestors getting polymer and steel). Plus i am workin on another proffesion (DE) which uses my resources. So I fall into the, "I buy my resources I dont wanna use it all on SOMEONE else i had to pay to much to get it and look around for it!"

hehe.. interesting!

I guess the difference is I don't run large amounts of factory crates at once. Usually no more than 200 items at a time, if that. Synth cloth I might run 300 if I've been doing a lot of restocking. But usually I just run stuff as I need it.. low on fasteners? Okay, time to run off 200. Stuff like that. My factory hoppersare definitely not full (I'm leery of that anyhow). /shrug

I do have one neighbor/friend I sold quite a bit to.. and ran off his crates in my factory.. I don't mind that. But when I get random tells (last one was asking me to run off some # of crates using his resources, would have tied up my factory for ages), I just decline.

But when i know how much money i could make USING THAT cloth to make outfits to sell on my vendor vs selling it I think to myself.. hey there is no point in selling a crate under 10k and even that is cheap compared to my profit if i used the cloth. I don't enjoy being glued to my factory so really i think i wont sell crates anymore, just make schimtics for people who have the resources.

If you don't have a factory setup - it isn't very practical to sell cloth and set one up for JUST that purpose, unless you happen to have armorsmiths in the neighborhood that have a steady need.

I HATE for my factories to sit idle, I've always had a components vendor that sold cloth and tailoring parts - just recently added an equipment factory and started selling things like electronic components, fireworks and repair tools by the crate to the list.

I used to only stock oh 10 crates or so at a time - then I thought why am I taking up my precious storage space with crates of cloth. Now - I throw them all on the vendor - and just pull off a crate when I need it for my own use - if it sells, great, I'll just make more.

Synthetic cloth on the bazaar is also a good way to advertise either directly thru a note on the item - or by sending the person that buys it a waypoint to your store for 'more'.

Not everyone NEEDS necessarily to have a factory - that's the way the system was originially intended to work. I've had many an armorsmith and tailor come to me for components - if you sell a lot of bulk - it's a win/win for everyone.

A poor holo armor smith was nice and came to me for me to make him synth cloth, he brought like a bunch of one type of thing, i ferget what syn takes, anways he didnt realize it needed TWO types of resources. I think he brought metal and it needed petro. I can't remember. I felt bad for him.

Personally, when I get this request, I explain to them this very problem: that I chew through synth cloth just about as fast as I can make it, and that I don't have enough online time to be sitting next to my factory churning out extra. What I can do is put in a run of synth at night before I log off -- if I'm not already doing that for my own uses. Most armoursmiths I've known simply weren't aware of how many of these cloths we go through in a single day.... and in my experience, explaining this either sends them off to someone else (which doesn't trouble me), or leaves them more than happy to wait for a time that is convenient for both of us (which also doesn't trouble me).

That said, I hand schematics out free of charge. Ghastly according to some people, I know -- but much less of a headache for myself and the crafter in question. I still don't understand why folks don't simply sell the schematics when that's viable, rather than making the crates; the income from the crates does not, to me, justify the pain of making them.

And as for the unpleasant ones -- yes, I don't do business with them. It's as simple as that. I will confess right now that I charge a 'karma' tax, as far as services like this go. If people cannot take a simple "I don't have time now, but I will tomorrow" civilly, then they will find themselves paying a great deal more than the polite folks will. I don't personally find this egotistical; if someone is providing a service to me, then I am at the very least polite to them -- doing otherwise is just stabbing yourself in the back.

Fiber crates = 2500, Synth crates = 5000, reinforced fiber = 7500 (10cpu) and I know that you can get it on the bazaar for less. I point them to the bazaar terminals when they complain...

But then they have +14/+14 Inj/Wnd treatment

Also have crates of +10 and +11 Mask/Camo RFP

now if I could only find enough good resouces to make a run of 1000.....sigh

I simply don't deal with armorsmiths at ALL, anymore. I'm also a DE, and need composite segments to make level 6 armor modules for my droids, but for some reason (and they refuse to explain), no armorsmith will sell me composite segments. I've had the same synth cloth problems as the rest of you, but that they demand components, and then refuse to sell any of their own just frosts the cake for me. Armorsmiths can burn in hell for all I'm concerned.

Im an Amorsmith, also novice Tailor. I do not have the lots to make a factory so I have crates of synth cloth. Why? Because I help other people mine resources, which takes my remianing 6 lots (I like my medium house, so sue me ). Now, I would gladly supply resources in exchange for synth crates, with the edition of 3k per crate. But there has been a rise in clothing sales which lowers the amount of supplies for armor smiths (and other crafting classes),

Im not entirely sure what the point of this was... im just showing you even as a tailor getting synth cloth cratescan be a pain in the arse.
