The problem all these really low pricers are going to run into is when they have to get a Factory to make items. Then they'll need a house to store the items. Then they'll need harvesters to get the thousands of resources that you need to do factory runs.

Sure you can sell your little backpacks for 100cr because you can find the items laying on on the ground anywhere mostly, but it's an entirely different story when you have to pay 3-15k per DAY supporting the infrastructure required to allow you to produce items that require 6+ factory made components each.

People don't sell dusters for 4-6k coz they are greedy, they sell that because A) people will pay it, they have too much money and B) it takes a LOT to get to that point of being able to make them at all.

I crit failed on 3 dusters and an infiltrator suit last nite. That's what I call "ouch".

Given the overheated state of the mission income economy, none of these prices are exactly "gouging". If you're charging less than what the market will bear, rest assured that at least some of your customers are reselling your stock at a fat markup.

While this issue bugs me a little, I have accepted two facts about it.

1)People will alaways re-sell thier gear, when they get tired of it (most likely).

2) It still sells from my venodrs. Wether i cahrge 35 creds for a soft undershirt (my price), or 350 creds, it still sells.

I run 4 combat missions a day...need some adventure...
and I cover my overhead. 500 into 4 harvesters each, 1k into each house. Every 2 or 3 days, I take all hte leftover cash and put it into the Factory or a VEndor as needed.

I realize my gear ends up being resold...but countless times, I've seen people selling their weapons, armor, and other things that have com from crafters...so it's all part of the economy.

My prices have given me a strong customer base, and the newbies who come into my shop, walk out looking like a million creds! And they remember that later on... the Tailor who had low prices; they came in with a handful of creds, and got a spiffy new outfit. They remember me later on, and come back for more. I love all my custoemrs, save one, and he is no longer a customer...

I sell for a small profit, and cover my overhead with my daily routine...

Higher tier items have a bigger tag, but thats because I'd be a fool not to do so...albiet a lower tag than most other peoples items... spc-ops duster 1k, Gunamns 2.5k.
Travel packs 150
Tech Packs 200
BH - yea right! (no Thoranium on Lowca)

Seriously, the combat people are ROLLING in cash! Their armor costs 250K in some cases, weapons nearly that much. They can make 10k in 10 minutes, 1 million credits in just a few days. Mission money is insane.

We're not gouging anyone, we're doing "supply missions". We're making up for the fact that we don't run missions and we have a lot more costs than the average rifleman has.

People are rich and have nothing to spend their money on. You're not doing them a favor by charing next to nothing for items, you're only hurting yourself and your fellow crafters.

I don't want to have to do missions to support my maintainance. Combat types who mission all the time have lots and lots of money. In fact, their whole function in the economy is to bring in money and help support folks like crafters and entertainers who don't want to run missions.

I guess you do get lots of business, but of course people want to go to a vendor that they're basically ripping off. I buy a lot of materials so I'm forced to think of things in material cost. Travel packs take 50 fiberplast if I remember correctly. So if I sold them for 150, that would be only 3cr per resource, not counting the other material that goes into them!

I usually pay 3 cr per resource for my raw fiberplast, and sometimes pay 4, so 150 is under my cost for even making the item. So yeah, I get kind of upset when I see people selling that insanely low. And yes, I do buy really low priced things and mark them up when I can afford to. Why shouldn't I, when I can buy those completed items cheaper than I can buy resources to make my own? I know that probably upsets people, but I don't understand exactly why. They're getting their asking price, so they're getting exactly what they wanted. And I'm getting low-cost high-profit items, and ridding the market of at least a slight amount of ridiculously low priced competition.

When I hear things like that I'm glad thatI've already made a relatively solid customer base and have had more than one customer tell me that my work is worth every penny... er... credit.

Ummm, OK here's a question from a non-tailor. Are there differences between the pack types or is it purely cosmetic? I have a tech pak now, should I save for a spec-ops pack?

it's all cosmetic ATM...but isn't the entire clothing line all cosmetic?

I mean why would you spend 7k for a black gunman's duster when you can have a black cloak for 2k? because IYO the duster looks better

I have a shop on Corellia on the Valcyn server. I have had this discussion many times. My prices are considered low but I do not undercut anyone intentionally. I also primarilly use the Bazaar for advertising purposes. This gets them into myshop.I use a formula for pricing because trying to figure out the shifting economy on Valcyn is way too time consuming. My formula is as follows:

My resource cost x 2 for resources I harvest (with extractors). Hides and Bones are x 5 (I buy them from local scouts at 4 cr per unit). Unique resources are x 10.

On top of that I add a 400% markup for my time. Then I round to the nearest 100. This formula works for me. If a resource such as fiberplast dries up then I will charge more for that on resource.

Travel Pack: 50 Fiberplast, 10 Inert Petrochemical, 5 Hide, 5 Metal = 100 + 20 + 25 + 10 = 155 x 4 = 620

So I sell them for 600cr.Another Example... (I have a large supply of thoranium steel, even so...)

Bounty Hunter Pack = 60 Fiberplast, 15 Inert Petrochemical,10 Hide,5 Metal, 10 Thoranium Steel

Thats 120 + 30 + 50 + 5 + 100 = 305 x 4 = 1220, I will sell them for 1200cror 1300cr depending on the next fiberplast shift. This is a reasonable price and IMHO more is too much. Some may flame me for selling low but...

Reasonable Prices + High Quality + Courteous Service = Satisfied Customer = Credits for me.

I charge what the market will hold, simple as that. My initial figure is based off of resources x10 then I charge more. Can I charge lower if I need to? Sure, thats how I get permanent customers. Charge what they'll pay, i've hardly had anybody complain about price (spec ops 3k, cloak 3k, gunmans duster 5k).
