I love this thread! I haven't moved very far up the color scale as of yet, still just barely over novice tailor but i've been using only one slection of most of the shades i have available now and think i have finally found some color names that customers respond to well; Onyx, Ivory, Cobalt, Golden, Pigeon, Burgandy, Forest, Blush, Cafe, and Champagne.

For anyone who hasn't experimented w/ color names it really helps boost sales in my experience. Ppl seem to respond better to buying a shirt or skirt titled Cafe vs. Brown, lol

The dark yellow looks like mustard. As you go lighter along the yellow it looks more like... a bodily function... severe disappointment, particularly since the "ribbed shirt" in the crafting window/datapad has what looks like a decent yellow.

I use the white to black line as my main greys. But the next run of greys after that has a really nice shade in the middle that I call silver. I also call the darkest color on one of the other sets of grey slate.

The rest of the greys I sometimes use in outfits for myself or for friends, because some of them you don't see around that often. One of the guys once told me that he had a tailor run up to him and ask him which grey that was! He told her my name but she never got in touch with me...

I call the lightest yellow "Straw", but I'd love a true yellow. Something like Saffron!! mmmm

I use the lightest orange as my yellow. I know it's more of a yellow-orange, maybe a sunshine or sunflower color, but it's bright and it's close enough to yellow for my customers.

Hehe would be something like pink/red 3.5 with my scheme (haven't actually checked the schematic so just made that up)...check the image link below. However giving people every color to see and coding them was the best thing I ever did. Yes, not every item can take very color but 1) they appreciate the range you have and 2) it gives you a good start when you are working with a limited color item.

I don't try to stock yellow items. I market a full line of Muon Gold outfits, where when I want to use yellow, I just use a thicker brownish yellow. I've got Muon Gold Rogue Outfits, Smuggler Outfits, etc. etc. But then my other half is a Smuggler, so it fits =).

The yellow isn't that great as a yellow - so do what I do and call it 'Burnished Gold'

If you live int he states, run down to the local Walmart. Pick up a paint color wheel. Tada! *whips out the uber large super duper size crayloa box she bough for her son's christmas* I'm still using that myself. Burnt Sienna anyone?? I do the same with my armor. Ubese has a halfway decent pallette, but the shirts have the full blown kibootle. I regularly stock 40 colors. When I first started stocking, things like stormcloud grey (mid grey), and charcoal grey (light black) as ubese armor, I got a lot of tells thanking me for them. Same with screaming yellow (full suit of ubese in that color, and I actually had to turndown the brightness on my monitor! lol). Slate blue tends to be my best seller of everything, except tailored shirts (black, black, more black ugh). Whyis it people want colored armor, but black clothing???

Right now Pantone (who maintains one of the major color standards) is selling a set of color cards with a few hundred colors for $14.95 as a special. It is not free, and you still have to calibrate your monitor but it is nice to have a set of industry standard color names that people can look up and see themselves. Other names are fun, but when I see a color name like "misty glen" I usually only have a general idea of what color it is until I see it. Unfortunately, paint manufacturers usually name their colors to sell paint and not really describe their colors. Of course, it really depends on whether you want a color name for marketing your clothes, or for helping people make special orders.
