Maybe I lack creativity, but I tend to name the darkest shade in each family, then name the rest based off that—for me that color would be Maroon-3. (18 would be Maroon-2, 19 Maroon-1, 20 Maroon)

That's the way I do it too... Red, Orange, etc... and then -1, -2 as I go down the list. I've never seen another tailor do it that way...

lol, how do you label your grey's, since there's like 6 different grey scales in the full pallet
. Or do you do like me and just pick one of the "sets" to use, and avoid the others
.
Or like blues, theres I think 3 differet blue scales. 3 differt greens, ect. To be honest I tend to pick colors I like and make up names. I have a forest green, a vivid green, a mint (the lightest vivid green), an Ice (lightest forest green). blue, light blue (I don't like any of the other blues). I only use one orange, the second most dark orange (I don't like the other oranges).
I tend to only use the deep red gained at master, and not the maroon set of reds, tho I've also used a pink from the light end of the scale,I think I might rename that coral now tho
.
I've got a nice deep brown I use for leather, and a tan I like for desert camo's. And a greenish tan color I like that I've named olive.
Thanks for the suggestions all... I think I'm leaning toward "dusky pink". I'll have to see when I log next how it looks when colored and labelled so
.

I try to come up with descriptive/not soo boring names, but i am not that great at them. However the middle of the medium Blue (2nd row of blues) has become periwinkle.
I use Fire Engine Red (TM) for the master red, maroon for the 3rd row up of red ( i think) Berry Red for the middle row of reds (which leads to berry pink)
I have a Bright Green, Olive Drab Green, Forest Green, Mint, and Aqua I use regularly.
Purples are Bright Purple, Grape, and Wine for each of the rows, and I just add light to it if they are in the middle of the row, or whatever i feel like.
I would go with Mauve for the pink from the dusters, it is sufficiently vague for guys to not think it is girly right away, and girls know what color it is.
I am having trouble nameing the 4th row up of blues, I usually call it marine blue, or bluegrey, depending on what day it is. Sometimes it is Steely blue, which i might stick with. I have seen some good names for colors, but I hate to steal the names from my own server.

color #17 on the pallet used for gunmans dusters (start at white, count to the right), it's kinda a greyish pink... or something. A puke pink, or salmon color.
Anyways I just can't decide what to call it when labeling my clothing. anyone have any suggestions?
I make (black), (white), (leather), (tan), (Lt.green), and (green) dusters now, just trying to expand my range a little.

Greys: Black (yeah, I know, it's really midnight), Charcoal, Heather, Slate. Blues: Steel Blue, Dark Blue, Medium Blue, Light Blue. Greens: Dark Green, Olive Green, Light Green, Matte Green. Et cetera. I haven't named all of the families yet…but I've got about 20 of them named so far.

I've picked a "line" of gray and use it. The one I have trouble with is tan.I try to be consistent and name them Tan1 Tan2 and Tan3 going from top to bottom, and the same with the browny/fleshys. But I really suck at Tan, I admit it, because they all look the same to me.

ya those tans are freaky. Color some clothing and it looks like it's a nice tan, but then next week you try to color another tan outfit and again it looks like a nice tan, but it turns out to be totally different from the previous tan. I've got a tan refrence peice in my backpack I use to make sure I'm always using the same tan when I craft lol.
