sounds like a helluva fun player event. my guess is there will be a house on each end of a field, and everyone comes overt, and each team is admin on the other team's house. first one inside the house, pickup the item, and equip it wins a point.
i'd have to agree that Ithorians do a great job of throwing a Monkey wrench into the mix. Ithorians get some really sweet looking clothing, but they can't wear regular clothing.
I'd suggest either the chef hat or apron (apron would probably be more highly visible)

this is a good point to keep in mind. my Ranger main character can outrun most Force Running Jedi.
if i were competing, i'd have about half the team charge the flag (with other half on defense) with me, and when we get almost close enough to attack, we all burst run, and i'd just blow right past everyone.
I have a BH friend that hire's my Ranger to help take down jedi. as a TKM, i have a great knockdown dizzy attack, and if they force run away, i can catch up to them, knock em down, and let the BH take care of the jedi.

Sadly, it looks like your options are limited to primarily backpacks and belts. Since backpacks are, most likely, not an option, I see two choices for you:
A) Craft brightly colored belts to use. These, however, would not necessarilly be visible unless you regulated armor color, such as team A is black armor team B is white, what have you. Red armor with the red flag... not good.
B) Wear half-suits of armor, and go ahead and make the flag reaaally brightly colored shirts/pants. This is easily viewable, and would, in my mind, be the option.
