Thread: Think before you decay clothing...
I think the fact that clothing decay wasn't implementedat release was only because it was overlooked. It's always been intended, there have always been clothing repair kits! So I'm not sure why clothing decay is something that seems to make so many people upset.
We're not saying that clothing should disappear overnight. But since clothing never decays, every outfit that we ever made will stay in circulation. Someone said they destroyed their old outfits? Well most of the folks I meet don't destroy theirs. They slap it on the bazaar for small amount of credits. They give their old clothes to their friends. People can get cheap or free secondhand clothes right now that last forever. And that's definately hurting my sales.
Or maybe entertainers should remeber that "dancing" and "music" don't necessarily mean "stripping" and "lap dancing". Everyone want to look the same and wear a fleshwrap like the other 212356 entertainers in their cantina (like every fighter type seems to want to wear black dusters).
There are plenty of extremely cool looking wears, skirts, dresses, robes, shirts, bustiers ... that can make elegant, colorful, or seducing (not NECESSARILY in the over revealing fashion, but still) entertainers outfit. If master level tailor items are too expensive to replace, it's maybe time to add some variety and some class to the red light districts strip club fleshwrap/underwear cliche ? Heck, even if you want to show flesh, a purple hotpant+bustier can do the trick with a lower cost than a fleshwrap.
I made once an emerald green ensemble (pleated skirt, bustier, long uniform gloves and lekku warps) for an entertainer friend, she got much more appreciative and admirative comments about her outfit that any clone slave girl wouls have ever dreamed of.
Try to learn about what your local novice tailor or costumier can do
Entertainers have less money than fighters ? Maybe.
But the10k I am charging entertainers for their top items which, even with colthign decay, will last quite a while, it is my DAILY maintenance cost. And you all know how much high end fighting items cost.
But there are more entertainers running around with fleshwraps or leotards (the absolute top, high end item for their class) than fighter types with high quality, fully sliced composite armors and elite weapons. The income is not the same, sure, but the expenses are not the same too. Master level items are intended to be rare, and not trivialized. Oh, and I always tip entertainers, and do discounts for them, by the way.

When was the last time you bought any article of clothing IRL that didn't "decay" in some manner?
For that matter, why should Clothing be the only equipable item in SWG that DOESN'T decay?
err rialism has nothing to do with this. but if you want to take that road.
when was the last time, you went out and took a shuttle to a far away planet? or bought a blaster?
not to mention if we pull movie resources in Ep1 that qui-gon guy ( sorry can't remember full name ) runs though a swamp, lays flat on his face in swamp water, dives to the gungan city and his clothes doesn't even get dirty or wet. ![]()

Well you made your point there Mortiar. Since realism isn't a good argument, I'd say it has to do with game mechanics. For instance, how many years has EQ been running? If the same clothing that was made the first week of SWGs launch was still around in five years, tailoring would be one heck of a boring profession. Simply, we need clothing decay otherwise there will be no use for tailors, and if there's no use for tailors it means the profession is broken. Everyone who is not a tailor will of course not agree and will be upset that they have to worry about decay on yet another thing. However, the same discussion is going on in the architect threads as well. Once everyone is happy with their heavy extractors, fusion powers, and guild halls, there's not much more for them to make. While this won't happen immediately, the future looks pretty dang boring without decay for the professions who currently don't have it.
Do entertainers ONLY entertain? If so what do they do with the rest of their points (can i have em? pls? >< )? Many of the entertainers i know have picked up another profession (mostly combat) by now. Entertaining can be fun but theres a lot of other things to do in the game. ) Even if an entertainer trys to rely only on tips, clothing is pretty much their only overhead besides training which as was stated they can get the majority of from other entertainers. So I dont really think this is a major issue.

I'm not worried about the decay per say, what I'm worried about is that they'll go overboard with it, not to mention that with some of the prices that ppl say they charge on these boards, I'm not suppriced they have less and less buisness. I saw someone chargeing 10k for something I just pays 2k for with acceseries sheesh.
but that aside I read the thread where ppl proposed decay rates and alot seemed to want time decay and not just use decay, that's where I get "scared" what if a person goes on vacation? he/she'll come back and poof all his/her clothes will be gone, not to mention with time decay it will demand constant looking after from you the tailors, as your clothes decays in your showroom/vendor.
forgot to say.
We've seen them fiddle with decay rates only to utterly mess them up ( had a gun that would decay 100 points per shot ) don't want to see all my clothes go poof in a matter or hours because some dev messed up.
