Thread: Think before you decay clothing...

That your best customers for the high end clothing, and for repeat business on clothing in general are...entertainers. How many of you know rich entertainers?

You need help in this area...but advocating a solution that so negatively affects your best customer base is going to cost you more in the long run. So...however they implement decay...if they go overboard on it, and you tailors cannot easily and inexpensively help maintain those nice clothes you sell...expect a) to sell less clothes...and b) to have a MUCH less visually interesting game because the people who tend to dress in the most interesting ways have all been reduced to wearing casual pants and shirts because the entertainer profession is, as a whole, not all that well off.

Either that or the entertainors will just take up tailoring them selfs and not worry about findding someone to make the clothes for them. Heck I know people that are doing that now. And I'm sure more will, if Decay starts to wear out there clothes to fast.

Well... ummm I have to disagree. I became a Master Dancer first, and I believe I was the first in my area and practically galaxy to do so. I had to buy all of my skills, which came to right around 150k...even with all of that... I never ran short of money. Now, a lot of entertainers don't even know where the dance trainer is! They are running around in Master Tailor items before hitting Novice Dancer. They are making money. If they aren't, maybe it's something they need to work on? I don't want to seem mean, but I can't imagine where this feeling that entertainers have no money, comes from. But to not get off topic, if there is no decay, then what happens to the tailors when everyone has 4 changes of clothes?

OH! And I forgot to add that entertainers are not my best source of income. In fact, I give way to many of them discounts because I have danced with them. Wookiees and fighters are MY best source of income.

yeah gotta admit fighters are my money makers. Entertainers flocked to the first masters on my server, a few are learning about me now, but fighters have always been my bread and butter, I'd like when those boots wear out too, sell one pair of black boots and gloves to a fighter and that's the end of story on those slots.

I purposesly learned Casual line *last* since I figured everyone and their dog would be selling to the entertainers ... and I have done VERY well by that tactic. I sell a TON of field wear and formal wear ... at least 10 times the amount I sell in the casual line.

This may be due to the fact that most entertainers got clothes right away when the game started and so really dont buy much any more... the only entertainers buying now seem to be the new ones.

Whereas, it is the opposite with combatants ... they focused on armor first and are just now buying their clothes. And without decay, that market will also soon saturate.

on this note I have to agree, I'm a musician and have never made a dime from tips not even when playing in abbandoned cantinas for people with massive mind wounds, the money I used to make was from running destroy missions and those aren't very good now.

another thing tailors need to take into account is, do you really want to see even more people running around in underwear?

I constantly buy new clothes when ever I get an idea for a new look, and since I have limeted space I have to delete some old clothes. then I find that I need them again and have to go buy a new one.

I'm all for getting more buisness for you people, but the decay has to be VERY!!!! well thought through if ever implimented.

First, as far as people in their underwear:

If money is as easy to get as everyone is leading me to believe, I don't see this as happening. But even if it does, it doesn't change things a lot from my standpoint. People with decayless clothing don't buy, and people who are content in their underwear don't buy either.

Second: "the decay has to be VERY!!!! well thought through if ever implimented."

If ever?!?!

As it is, I can no longer sell any of the stuff that I used to be able to sell, because everyone already has all the open jackets, admin robes, etc. that they need. In 2 months, even the masters won't be able to sell. If they NEVER implement decay, there won't BE any tailors by the time Christmas rolls around.

When was the last time you bought any article of clothing IRL that didn't "decay" in some manner?

For that matter, why should Clothing be the only equipable item in SWG that DOESN'T decay?

Uhm....Lots of rich entertainers? My biggest business is with them, and they drop more money than anyone else in my shop. If it isn't them, it is their customers come to buy them a gift.

I don't see how this will do ANYTHING but help us. At worse they may only have 5 or 6 outfits instead of 15 or 20, but I'll take 5 outfits recurring every month or two over 15 one time sales anyday.

Clothing decay is VERY VERY important. As someone mentioned...I'm not selling nearly the amount of stuff I use to sell. I've had to raise my prices to keep in buisness. Luckily I have a great PA that supplies me with resources and repeat business.

uh...yes...we need clothing decay. Yes, perhaps prices will become lower, but demand will become greater. Plus, eventually, more durable clothing will be at a premium more than looted clothing, and unexperimented clothing.

I dunno where entertainser keep gettin' all this cash, but they sure dump a lot in me. No, I still see decay as a Good Thing across the board.
