Thread: Would Item Decay Actually Make a Measurable Difference? I Think Not
Thank you, Sue. That is exactly the point that I was trying to make.

address my point on equity.
let me preempt any arguments about clothes being less important than armor:
1. It costs the same amount of skill points/xp <roughly> as other professions.
2. Wookies can't wear armor, so biomodded clothes are actually more important to them
You can see the point im trying to make here, then factor in the lack of decay for other classes such as architects and you are forced to see that decay is NOT implemented in a global and logical fashion.
If some already suggested this sorry but for the people who wear clothes in battle it would be cool if the decay goes down that you would see change in the clothes (burn marks, ripped clothing, bullet holes[ laser holes ] ) unless the person likes wearing it they would have to buy brand new clothes eventually.
Structures and installations decay probably more aggressively than anything else in game. It's just that you can bribe them not to. Still, if you forget to give them their hush money, they'll go up in smoke... and it does happen on a relatively regular basis. I'd be willing to bet that architect items decay at least as fast as other classes' items.
"I think the bottom line is, everything else decays, why punish Tailors?"
I think the point to the post was, "Is it really this big 'punishment'?" The argument I keep seeing goes something like "Everything else decays, clothes should decay." But then, if that's the case, couldn't we just as easily say "Everything else comes in only one color, clothes should come in only one color." Just because decay is implemented for other things doesn't mean it works, and even if it does, it doesn't mean that it would work for clothing. If you truly want clothing decay reintroduced, you're going to have to come up with some more coherent arguments.
I'm not saying I object to clothing decay. Mostly what I object to is faulty reasoning. I personally think that there might be a bigger market for my items if stuff left the economy, but on the other hand, there might be less of one, since people know it's just going to degrade anyway.
Maybe the difference is using powerups. I don't. Too much hassle. I average about 300 a hit with Chest Shot, and that's good enough for me. If they're chewing your guns up so fast, I'd suggest re-evaluating just how much you get out of them.
I think the bottom line is, everything else decays, why punish Tailors?
And the talk now about 'decay upon death' really doesn't help us at all. Dancers and formal wear are the big ticket items. Unless they decay every time you flourish, take damage, or over time in general, it's pointless.
BTW I hardly ever hunt, and I still managed to burn thru a pistol. If my weapon disintegrates my armor and clothing should too.
