Thread: Clothing Schematics Pricing Spreadsheet v1.2
I agree, the spreadsheet is indeed a nice piece of work, however what bothers me is that it gets handed out with predefined pricing, which I fear will influence the noobier types of tailors, either because they don't care on creating their own pricing system and take the next best list, or they fear that they wouldn't be able to sell the stuff for higher prices than the ones already established on the sheet.
But whatever. My tailoring skills becamea side activity, anyway thanks to all this stupid mess with the undercutters. Once player cities get implemented, I'll probably surrender themfor the sake of player city merchants. Maybe they implement online-timebased clothing decay afterall, at least Raph wasn't opposed to my suggestions sometime ago. If not, I'll rather concentrate on merchants.
Thanks much for this spreadsheet. I'm a new tailor and find it valuable in helping me determine what I might want to price items at.
However I noticed your default pricing (at least on average) is quite a bit less than what our averages are on my server. I attempted to just play with the "Credits Per Unit Price" variable in the Vars tab and didn't notice any change over in the Prices tab. Did I do something wrong or miss a step? Sorry for the n00b question.
I'll eventually learn this and do the rest of the variables, but I was just looking for a quick fix for now.

It is basically impossible to go from resource based pricing to market value because the two things are not at all related.
If I was starting from scratch I'd probablytake Nivea's pricing and subtract maybe 25% and see how that came out. Not that I think her prices are overlyhigh, just that for a more competitive market and a quieter area that seems to fit better. When it doubt, use higher prices rather than lower.. especially when trying to fund a growing business via clothes sales alone.

I am aware, butthe prices I choose to employ have nothing to do with this post. Sohaving someone just give me one star, making my post invisible to those who haven't found the option yet and thus basically invalidating all the work I've put into this grates me a little, yes. As I said, if you don't like my prices then start a newthread and I'll be more than willing to discuss it with you.Beyond that I consider giving out one-star to this as someone having a grudge against me.

Also please note, this is a spreadsheet, you can enter in your own pricing
Thank you Vandessa, that was the whole point of posting it in the first place. So that people can define their own prices.

There's three things there. First, how is me posting my prices any different from some (say, oh, Nivea) posting theirs? You don't agree with my low prices and are afraid other people might adopt them, and I don't agree with high prices in similar fashion. Yet people are raving about a 'job well done' when someone posts high prices and those who post low prices get kicked in the mud?
Secondly, and I'll say it again, those prices are in there as an example of how the spreadsheet works. It's a fairly complicated spreadsheet and just leaving the values at zero wouldn't be very instructive to anyone. For this reason I asked, when I posted v1.1, what values other people were using. But people were more interested in flaming my prices instead of coming up with helpful alternatives. /shrug So be it.
And thirdly posting it with my prices makes it very easy for me to show my prices to others. All I have to say is "just look at my spreadsheet" and they know exactly what I charge for items.

If you look on the "Schematics" sheet you'll notice a "Credits Per Unit Based Price" column next to the "Total price" column. This is what the "Credit Per Unit Price" variable influences, and nothing else. It's there only for comparative reasons so that you can compare your prices to a strictly credits per unit based price.
If you want to see a quick effect in prices you might start out with playing some with the various multipliers. Just putting the "General Multiplier" to 2.0 will double all prices. Then you can play around with your expenses and your resource averages. The resource tab basically calculates a credits per unit cost for each resource individually.A quick way to work with the "Resources" sheet is setting "Profit Margin" to 0% and "Markup" to what credits per unit you want for that resource.
And I advice reading through the "Instructions". I think I explain everything reasonably well there, but if you have more questions or if things are unclear then feel free to ask further. ![]()
I know it can be a bit intimidating, as there are a lot of options and things influencing each other. But just play around with it a bit and read the instructions and you should be able to igure it out. ![]()

per level adjustment: 75 -- this is my favorite upgrade with the new 1.2 spreadsheet... I wanted an adjustable per-level multiple
factory stack adjustment: 500 -- again, I like the new 'per factory item' over the old 'per factory stack'
round-of-too: nearest 50
I priced most common resources (fiberplast, inert petro, metal) at 5 each. Specific common resources (copper, polymer) I priced at 8-10 each. I think I put generic Hide at 8 and wooly at 15. Some of the more rare gemstones and metals went up to 20.
This gives me prices that are high enough to where I feel I make good money, put low enough that no one has yet complained (other than people who want free clothes). I'm making between 3 and 10K per day (gross, figure about half that in net), and I'm not close to master tailor (0/1/4/1).

It bears noting that one one-star rating won't hide your post -- it takes several for that feature to kick in, and I doubt you got more than one.
A lot of the one-star ratings don't seem to be given by people you happen to be debating at the time, but by anonymous lurkers and/or people with an axe to grind from some other slight, real or imaginary.

You're a real help to the community! Thanks for putting forth your time and effort to bitch like a 9 year old.
We all truly appreciate it.
i think it's nicely done
i don't quite agree with the pricing either, but hey, it's a free country... um, i mean game. her pricing has nothing to do with how much work she put into this spreadsheet. it's a great tool for both novice and master tailors alike. good job!
i would enter in my prices so i can use that order calculator, but i've tweaked them around so much, i can't figure out how to recreate them on the spreadsheet ![]()
Thank you Ill_Omen. If I release a new version (if there's a need to) I'll see if I can include your prices as an option.

My mistake then. I was under the impression that a one-star rating always hides your post and that it took several people rating your post that for it to get one star. I was also under the impression that it wasn't working as it only took one person to get a one-star rating. Seems I was wrong. ![]()

Hello I can't see this on my computer. I don't have excel is there another way to see this? I have wordpad and notepad. I would really like to see and use this. Also, have word perfect. Thanks for any help with this.
Unfortunately BabyeyesAubian, since it is an Excel file you'll need Excel to view it. But not all hope is lost, since a quick search online found me this program (going to try and post a link again):

I haven't tried using that myself, but it seems that that program will allow you to view Excel files. Note however that, from what I understand, it won't allow you to change any data to suit your purposes.
Let us know if the program work if you're going to try it. ![]()

It's perfectly possible to completely set prices by hand. In the "Vars" sheet use variable set "Set 2" and in it set the General Multiplier and all those below it (the level-specific multipliers) to 1.0. Then in the "Schematics" sheet you can set the "Extra Price" for each schematic to exactly what you want the price for each to be.
You can also set the "Component Multiplier" to 1.0 so that you can manually set the price for you components as well in the "Components" sheet, but note that if you do this that all schematics will automatically include the price of their components. Of course you can correct for this again with the "Extra Price" (making it lower to compensate).
Whether you want to go through all the trouble of setting every price manually is another matter altogether. ![]()

The spreadsheet may look intimidating, but it's really not that hard to use. I know next to nothing about excel but after reading the instructions through about twice had a pretty good handle on how to fix the pricing.
I put in my expenses and resource costs, and then played with the component multipliers and the level multipliers for a bit. It was really fun to see how the various values affected pricing! Then I used the "extra price" section in the schematics page pretty heavily. I used that value as mypopularity modifier. I added credits to my more popular items, and subtracted credits from a lot of the items that rarely sell in order to hopefully give them a sales boost.
The best thing about using the spreadsheet was that I learned a lot about how I'd been pricing before. The overall result was that I raised many prices but lowered a few others. The downside of using the "extra price" so often to add and subtract value is that if I have to redo my pricing then I have to go through the entire list again and re-adjust. But working with it was so fun that I doubt I'll mind.
Thanks again for putting so much work into this, and shame on everyone whose only response to her great tool is to complain about her pricing. Personally, I don't agree with the lower pricing either, but I just changed it to a price scheme that fit my needs. We're all going to disagree with each other's prices at some point or another, but that doesn't change the fact that she put in a lot of work and decided to share with us all. ![]()
