Thread: Opening A New BE Tissue Stoe: Need Feedback
I split the profits evenly with my BE so he makes about 5k for each tissue (less the ones used to make schematics and the ones I crit on). I find this a fair deal although he does sell them for less to others (about 3k each I think). Since we are in the same guild and I get priority over other orders, it makes sense to just split the profit evenly. He's also my merchant so I feel guilty sometimes about how much time he spends restocking my vendor too.
I charge 10k per panel of cloth used in crafting and it seems to be a fair price. We don't sell ones that require eggs or other rare ingredients.

Oh, and to answer your original question:
I do supply to certain tailor on an irregular basis. I charge 40k/crate of advanced tissues, but of course do not supply advanced myoflex.
Most popular tissues: advanced biosensors, scent neutralization, the advanced version of "toughened fibers", and coagulent. Hardly anyone buys any of the others.

Just my 2 cents, customers want the best, and I know that personally I only buy the best, as everything under 14 just stays on my vendor too long. If I were you I would go for quality over quantity.
Songe, I really doubt too many tailors, and I know not many customers in my experience, have that attitude.
My customers have sure not been picky when it comes to plus values. When I was selling basic tissues (+5 - +7) they were eating em up. Now with the advanced ones I use, many batches turn out +13 or so, and no complaints at all. I guess one difference isyou charge much much more, maybe that is the difference there. Ditto with the tailors that I supply. They are thrilled to death when I'm able to offer them a couple of +12 or +13 crates shortly after they order, definitely no complaints that the bonuses are not a point or two higher. If they did complain, I'd probably just cut them off, as it's simply not worth the effort. When an opportunity comes along to buy some avian bone in a good sized stack I'm sure not going to quibble about the OQ not being 900. I could go weeks without finding such a stack.
Believe it or not, the ONLY customer that I've had that has complained about the bonus amount happened last night, and he actually complained that it was too high, lol. He bought a pair of +7 mask scent cammos off my vendor. I had made these pants with some old tissues I had lying around, trying to get rid of them and make way for the newer, better tissues I'm able to make these days. Then he emailed me asking if he could exchange them for one with a color that matched the rest of his outfit. I told him sure, but that my current tissues were +14 and so that is what he would get, and that it would naturally cost more, but that I would only charge him the difference (I thought I was being ULTRA cool and understanding here). I was shocked when he actually replied and said he wouldn't pay more for a +14 tissue, and that he actually wanted a +7 tissue because his duster he claimed had +18 (wow, if true)and he didn't want to pay for the extra values over the +25 limit. Well, needless to say, he's cut off too, lol. Definitely not worth worrying about customers like that.
actually in my mind anything over +13 is fluff, since you're never going to hit +25 with one cloth, 2x13=26. Most people seem to accept the +25 cap, weather it's truth or not (from the evidence I've seen it's truth, but not proven beyond a shadow of a doubt).
And yeah, hate to say it Avallo but I really doubt you'd be able to keep your vendors stocked unless you charged astronomical prices. There's simply not enough people harvesting meat
.
sorry to imply that all tailors are out to get all they can from ppl. Ireally just meant that most tailors have a set pricing for BE clothes. X amount per point and per panel and such. So, even if a person sold the BE cloths cheaper most tailors would still price the items the same as they normally would and if you are a BE you are just hurting yourself that way. Unless you find a tailor that actually charges less, and/or does a profit sharing of the clothes with you, i'm just not sure it woudl be worth all the effort of setting up a store that sells cloth cheap.
Also ppl will buy stuff that is newbie BE enhanced. I only deal in low-end BE clothes atm from lack of being able to get master BE stuff. 3 and 4 mods on bleed and junk, and ppl buy them. Not everyone can afford 10k+ and i've noticed that some ppl just want a cool shirt that gives a little bonus.
BradBradley wrote:I take whatever the BEs charge me, and double it. So far everything I've gotten into stock cost me 500 credits per tissue - but then, I'm from Rori, we treat each other right.
The standard pricing model is to take the bonus (or higher of the two bonuses) and multiply that by x, for values of x ranging from 250 to 400. So +16/+4 tensile resistance they would charge 16 x 400 = 6400 credits per tissue. For me to use up two of those to make a spec-ops duster I would have to charge 12,800 plus the normal 1,650 for the duster itself, or roughly 14,450 credits. I'm told that on the more crowded planets, there are people who cheerfuly pay this much.
See, this is the problem right here and I'm gonna warn you about it now. Above all other things, find out what your tailor is charging for their BE enhanced clothes. This guy right here purely states he's getting his tissues at 500 credits per tissue. Then he's turning around and selling, we'll use his example, a spec-ops duster for about 15k. Spec-ops duster takes 2 tissues so there's 1k in materials. He states it cost him about 1500 to make. So all told, his costs are about 2500 per duster. So he rakes in about 12.5k profit per spec-ops duster and the BE gets 1k (less when you factor in his costs). Heck, lets say he pays 2k per tissue (a common price I saw here). The tailors costs are now 5500 netting him 9.5k profit and the BE 4k (not including costs).
My point is this. Dont sell yourself short. The tailors are making a killing on this stuff. Personally, I try to shoot for about 30% of the profits. Considering my tailor is selling for 1k per point (and I can barely keep her stocked), I sell my tissues at 300 per point and I cap myself at 5k per tissue. Of course, this is going to depend greatly on what the current market price is for BE clothing on your server. So dont sell yourself short man.
Another thing to notice here. Not all of these tailors are having an easy time finding consistant suppliers for tissues. I'm not sure how far you've gotten into gathering materials, but let me tell you, it blows. And unless you are going to pay out the nose for materials, rangers typically wont help cause they can make a much better deal selling hides and stuff to armorsmiths. As you get further into this, you'll see what I mean and I'd definately factor your grinding 1xp mobs as part of the price.
Finally, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the tailors need you man. In our example above, you think its the tailors extrordinary skill that makes something that costs 1650 sell for 14.5k. Of course not. As the BE, you are bringing the value to the tailors customers. The tailors customers are essentially buying the tissue and the clothes are just an added bonus. Cause believe me, if they just wanted a shirt, they can find one for alot cheaper than the 16k ones I see on my server. So keep that in mind. They need you for sales alot more than you need them. Just see how enthusiastic you are about grinding materials after of few weeks.
{To the tailors, the guy just asked for feedback. I gave him the honest truth. If any of you are offended I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention to do so. Just trying to make a point.}

P.S. Brad, which part is sickening you. The part where you are pulling in about 12k profit for item sold, or the part that you are pretty much ripping off your BE. Just wondering.
Well said all. Materials WILL become a problem I am sure. But dont worry I have 2 weeks or so to prepare (because I hate sampling and it takes me forever) but I think you are probably right. I was thinking about allowing a tailor vendor in the store as well and watching his or her pricing. The price if definetly an issue but I think if a tailor sees a plus 13 or so he or she wont pass it up even if its at a resonal price. Despite the fact that I am unimaginably poor I do have one very kind friend who is kind to loan me money to get everything set up. I would like to think Tailos would appreciate the store but perhaps it and my time would simply be abused.
Thanks for posting so much!

You said I would need 10k of creature resources per day. I assume you mean If I make 4 crates of everything per day I would need that much. I would never be that devoted to playing to do that
. There is a reason it has taking me since mid august to get to master BE and Im still not there. If I updated weekly then I would have enough time to gather resources (hopefully).

Oh boy, I was with you until you said that, now I actually am very offended. Look, as a guy who is both BE and tailor, it takes a heck of a lot more "extraordinary skill" to find an outfit that someone likes and is willing to make a commitment to wear for a long period of time (and thus justify the high cost) than it is to simply buy some materials off the bazar, stick them in the blender, and hand them to the tailor at a hugely marked up price. Who is really the one doing the leg work and providing the "value" here? The truth of the matter is this: I'm still selling a heck of a lot more "regular" clothing than I am or ever will sell"skill mod clothing" and have made a ton of money doing that. I was rich by most standards long before I became a BE, and certainly before BE clothing was "fixed". Anyone who is a master tailor (and many who aren't) are already rich from selling "regular" clothing, just the same as those who are master BE's are rich from selling rancors and pet pharma, so the business about "needing tissues for sales" is just a comment made out of sheer ignorance, but I guess you just don't know any better. Even now, with a virtually limitless supply of BE tissues (since I make them myself and have a big mound of crates in stock), skill mod clothing still makes up only a very small percentage of sales, and I sure don't see that changing.
Oh, and as far as charging 16k for something that costs under 2k, I do it all the time. Sold 2 flight suits and a revealing flesh wrap yesterday, got 15k for each, no skill enhancers in any of them, and none of those have more than 2k of materials in them. They look great, they require a lot of tailoring skill to make, people love em, people buy em, simple as that.
Here's the calculation, you decide:
Tensile Resistance (one of the most popular tissues)
25 hide
25 bone
20 meat
10 flowers
==========
so 65 creature resources for a single tissue.
65 x 25 to a crate = 1.6k/crate
4 crates/day (of ONLY tensile resistance)= 6.5k creature resources/day. Ok, so I rounded up a bit ![]()
You get the idea though, and that's at just selling 4 crates per day of a single type of tissue. Your vendor would look very very bare at only stocking 4 crates per day.
