Funnily enough, I'm on SWG for the Role-play and have played an equal mix of male and female characters in White-wolf games etc....
I started Galaxies and decided to pick a human, tried to build a male character but I really didn't like the look of any combination I could come up with. I selected Female instead, clicked randomise all, and went with the combination it generated becaues it looked at least halfway decent. Bar changing the skin, hair and eye colour at an Image designer, it's stayed the same....
The only thing that bothers me regarding female avatars is the obvious "Slutty, huge chested, male fantasy female ones with bio's such as "Starred in "Wookie-love and other Pr0n holos" you see hanging around the cantinas in the smallest of clothes. The obvious product of Teen angst.
Male Tailors should play it as a traditional "gentleman's outfitters"....

Female in game and in RL... And I keep getting tells of people calling me 'dude' etc. I guess my character's name isn't particularly feminine, but it also happened when I was playing an alt called Leorny. Some people are actually quite surprised when they find out I am a girl... in game and in RL. I guess they are not used to argumentative women lol.

female in game and rl, and i think it surprises customers that I am a zabrak tailor/tkm.
Example: A new customer was coming to my shop outside of theed, and she was like 'woah, there are some huge spiders out here!'
I sent her a tell back, 'crap, thought I killed them all. Do you need me to clear them out?'
She replied 'you killed these spiders out here? by yourself?' I could hear how amazed she was and only laughed in RL, staying a polite proffessional in game. I'm enjoying having an elite combat skill.

A lot of people use "dude" in a gender neutral context. It's become a pretty universal word in many areas. Something you say where the way you say it influences the meaning more than the word itself. If they are addressing a crowd formally it becomes "Dudes and dudettes", but just talking to people it's just "dude".

I keep the combat for the alts—soft, delicate Eicia…and her two big, bad bodyguards (need something set on fire? Beaten to a pulp with a hammer? Shot in the crotch with a launcher pistol? Diced with an LVA? No problem. After all, one must always keep one's own hands clean, yes?)

I'm a male IRL and have a female tailor. I don't advertise much [she's working on being a combat character... I liked crafting, but generally dislike making a living from it]. I originally chose Droid Engineer [which (historically) fit the character better - all my toons are RP characters of mine from years ago], but disliked amount of stuff I would have to keep track of. I started Tailor so I could see the variety of clothing, etc, in the game. I didn't really plan on keeping it over DE, but after mastering it I decided I liked it much more.
So what made me pick the profession? The variety, general lack of different resources to keep track of, and the vast ability to customize.
What made me pick a female character? Well, it's because of The Wheel of Time. I played on a MUD for years and in order to have an Aes Sedai I needed to have a female character
. [I really, really enjoyed it, so I made several more... I do have a few males in my hat, too]. Kaliya happens to be the Engineer of the group and when I decided to do DE first I picked her. Whenever Publish 10 comes out I'm going to unlock my second slot and bring her brother to Flurry. [Whether I go Jedi or not is undecided].

Female RL, female toon. I DID play a male wookiee once, but he sorta fizzled. I used to have a lot of problems with people assuming Dora was a man for a couple reasons. 1: I was always running around in my imp uniform in those days, not the most flattering outfit. 2: I didn't realize it but part of the problem was that I was so tall. I was set to Twi'lek max which is above human max so I was taller than some of the men running around. I didn't realize just how much taller I was because I ran in 1st person mode most of the time and I suppose I'm not that much of a spatial thinker. The only other problem I've ever had on this score is the **edit** Detta on SWG-faces.

GunheadD9 wrote:Teeheeheehee! Its an interesting question, and a good article on SWGtailor that Syzygy-Gorath put up there. Personally I always play Females in a computer game when given the chance -- I used to catch a lot of shize from my frineds about it "why do you play girls, are you a f*g? Are you g*y?" And I would just sit back and smirk and run alittle mental exercise with them -- goes something like this:"So when you play a game, you usually are in 1st person view, right?" I ask."Yeah, unless I'm in 3rd person" they say."So would you say that about 50% of the time you are in 3rd person pov?" I ask."Sure, that's about right.""So, let me get this straight. For half of the time you are playing a game, you are in 3rd person view, looking at your avatar fromt he back, right?" I ask."Umm... Yeah, why?""So you soend Half your time playing a game looking at some burly dude's backside. You spend half your time looking at some big hulking man's ripped biceps and tight little butt squeezed into that infiltration suit? Come on -- Now think about what you've been asking me..."That usually shuts them up. Personally, I find beauty in the female form (I'm an artist in RL) and I find the thought ofbeautiful womenkicking arse quite awesome. So when I'm playing a computer game, I like to play beautiful women who can kick the shize outta you. In short, I like to look at something pretty, which is probably why I went master tailor instead of say weaponsmith or creature handler or chef.As to customers and their perception, well I really dont care what they think, I keep my vendors stocked with prettys and plenty of people keep coming back. I figure I talk like a fellow most of the time, save dropping a 'hon' or a giggle or a kiss on the cheek when it suits. I figure it helps with the beautiful woman kicking much arse persona, you know? I can't imagine that a tailor who is male woulod have any harder time making money, as long as they had a vendor up. Most sales you aren't around for, so its somewhat a moot point what gender you are, eh?Oh and I used to have long curly red hair (in a Mohawk, cause I was such a hardcore punk that the Exploited took lessons), but being 6'5 and built like a Defensive Gaurd kinda makes people assume that I'm not a girl, but a dude with long curlyhair. Aaaah College....Rock on!
My husband created a female character too.
*goink
I think I lost a few brain-cells. My heart said "Awwwwww" my head said "Hey, wait a minute!!!" and my hand was twitching with the conflicting /smackupsidethehead and /strokecheek commands.
Anyway, back to the original point.

lol, I AM the muscle for the mayor. I beat her with a poisoned stick until she let me do it.
I'm more of an 'underworld' tailor, and even considered starting up a mafia. There were too many obstacles involved, mainly the inability to kneecap people without their consent.

Here's a reprint/excerpt from my Swgtailor diary:
So the server came down and all of TC flooded the TC chatroom. I have no idea how this topic got started, but I started babbling about how nobody would marry me because I'm high maintenence and want expensive gifts (like harvesters). And then a guy, whom I've talked to once before (the dude from chapter 6 who trained me on Endor in DNA sampling) said "I'll marry you!" I thought he was joking in the spirit of the moment...
When the server went back up, I got a tell from my so-called suitor (to Clytemnestra, the tailor that he had trained): "You're n'Jessi??" I wrote back "apparently."
Are you ready for this? He wrote "oh, I thought you were a guy!"
*Boggle?* I wrote back "Well, no, I'm not."
He wrote "Oh well, I thought, ya know, from the way you acted that day on Endor..." How exactly does screaming like a sissy and running for my bike qualify me for male-ness? I was referring to the creatures as "bat thingys" and "cow thingys" and he thought I was a guy?
"Well good," he continued, "cause I can't marry a guy." What what WHAT??
"I thought you were joking!" I managed to sputter. "Nope," he said.
"You can't marry someone you don't even know," I said (and you obviously don't know me because you thought I was a guy)
"Yes I can," he replied.
"Well I can't," I said.
He seemed a little miffed after that, but I had to put my foot down. I mean, he thought I was a guy.

LMAO! That has got to be the best "I am not a guy" story I have seen yet. Too funny! ![]()

I am a male I ammarried,I play a male character and I am a Tailor
I don't believe that tailoring is a female proffesion these are the reasons i chose it
-nil resource requirments (I hate hunting for and checking stats on resources)
-people don't need clothes , therefore the ones who want them will usually pay more for them
-armoursmiths (aguablly the richest in the game) use our components to make there finished products
-we have a wide selection of schematics to choose from
a note on gender assumption , I always assume that the character I am dealing with is male until proven otherwise
