Thread: Thursday 12th Feb end of tailor shops ?

I find that people come into your shop with an idea of what they want to spend. Sort of like when you go to Nordstrom's sale. Normally you would spend $100 and walk out with a pair of boots. On sale day you spend $100 and walk out with 2 pairs of boots. So usually I find that tailors who chargeat a fraction of the marketsimply can't keep up with the demand because people will spend the same amount of money.

I just counted today, my vendors are nearing 1200 items. People may not get a bargain but they can count on a hefty selection.

Do people undersell me? Sure. I would say most of them do. Do people who undersell me (by a significant amount) carry 1200 items? I honestly don't know, but I would guess not.

Find your market niche and go with it, whether it's selection, style, BE clothing, or customer service. It all depends on how you want to spend your game time, run your business, and whatever makes you happy. The raised bazaar limits may cause some tailors to have to find a new market niche, but it's a matter of adapting and distinguishing yourself in a new way. If you fill a market niche, pricing at "bazaar level" will be irrelevant.

Funny - I am putting my vendors back up this week after maybe four months of not having one.

I think it's pretty clear that the intent is to reduce the SWG's economy's reliance on player shops. No idea why, since 50% of the time on my server the bazar is so badly lagged that it's unusable. Also, without shops, player cities are kind of useless imho, but oh well, it's their funeral. The higher cap certainly does promote the use of the bazar as a selling tool, so it will be interesting. If enough tailors start selling on the bazar, and the bazar gets to the point where it's selection starts to be better then the "average" tailor shop, then that truly will mean the end of tailor shops imho, as there will be no incentive at all to visit them.

That's all a little bit pessimistic, don't you think? I'm not in the least bit worried about either the vendor cap /or/ the 6K bazaar increase. Heck, you can use it to your advantage if you're in the mind to do so. When I was just starting out, I used the bazaar to support my business by putting up anything that would sell for 3K or under with a note in the description to come visit my shop, and then followed that up with an e-mail to whoever bought the product with waypoints and the like.

I think the *reason* for doing it is because merchants are complaining that they don't have any special props, and as someone who worked really hard to get both Master Tailor /and/ Master Merchant (okay, well, the MM wasn't so much work as it was waiting, but I digress), I can see where the thoughts come from. As a Master Merchant, I don't have really anything above and beyond someone who, say, has Novice Merchant. Sure, I have more vendors available, and I can dress my vendors however I like, plus I get some discounts to maintenance, but there's really nothing more than that and there's often no reason for someone to go all the way to Master Merchant when they can just get a little in it and have what they want.

The 6K cap makes it so that people who can't find a merchant to sell stuff for them can casually sell on the bazaar without having to go and get part of merchant and open a shop. It'll be a handy thing, and I certainly hope it'll make for less empty vendors when I have to find that super-neat gadget that I've always been looking for.

Personally, I don't put more than 250 objects on a vendor at a time, only have to re-stock about twice a week (once when I'm feeling lazy), have a large base of frequent clientele, take special orders only by e-mail, don't do glitzy customer service (beyond sending thank-you e-mails to each and every one of my customers), only charge 8K and some change for my most expensive item, and I make a good sum of money without going insane. It can be done, I don't think that anything is happening or has happened that is going to terribly limit how we do business.

Besides, if as many tailors who are threatening to quit actually /do/ quit, your competition will be considerably lessened.

I prolly should be askin this on another board, but is anyone a tailor on tarquinas? I swear, i have like 100 items on my vendor (hey thats good for me im only 1-4-1-1, havent really grinded it yet =) and I make absolutely NO profit. Does anyone know a guild I could join? I really dont care where it is, I just want a guild to make clothes for and stuff and maybe be able to get resources from them.

If they nerf vendors like they are talking about, plus the price change on bazaar... it could definately get ugly I bet. We'll see though.

I don't buy that. The number of "pure merchants" in this game is insignificant. So when you talk about "merchants" what you are really talking about is tailors, armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, gunsmiths, droid engineers, etc and the vendor cap sure as heck doesn't help any of them. Of course it doesn't *hurt* many of them either, since most vendors seem to be either double-digit contents, or completely empty.

I have to agree with this, if I had to guess I would be very suprised if there were more then 2 or 3 pure merchants running around per server.

The ultimate goal may be that they wanna weed out the empty vendors or maybe force some vendors out of buisness for some reason. I hate using the bazaar and many other players do as well. I was angry at first with the change but now, I think I'm just gonna roll with it not much else I can do. I won't be selling anything on the bazaar though, I can't list items on the bazaar if my vendors are stocked anyways so its very strange.

That could be the items in your stockroom. Items in the stockroom count against your 25 item bazaar limit I do believe.

Some of those items stuck in the stockroom are from deleted vendors, so I cannot 'remove' them at all. Will they eventually be absorbed somehow or deleted?

No clue on that one, you might want to try the half assed help of the CSR's. Who knows, maby they'll miraculously be able to solve your deleted stockroom items.

It it's been longer then 30 days then I don't think your phantom stockroom items are going to go away on their own.

Hehe, this is the one aspect of the change that I'm looking forward to. I've just started selling an item here and there on the bazars again, just to get my feet wet again and get the lay of the land(ahh, the nostalgia, lol) and it will be fun to apply months of tailoring knowledge to the bazar and see what the market will bear on some of these items. I can't help but be a little bit bitter about the fact that so many non-tailors were so quick to support the big tailor vendor nerf, so the bria bazar buyers beware, there is going to be a whole lot of low level tailor items coming from me, and none of them will be priced at less than 6k.

Actually, you mention cloaks and dusters though. Those are two items I won't touch anymore. Every noob grinding tailor and their brother sells those by the bushel and completely ruins the market for them.

Srednii wrote:

But I also think it'll pump the price of lesser clothing up. As things stand now I sell all sorts of low end clothing on the bazaar, but I sell it at 2800 credits, almost double what I charge normally for a lot of it. And it sells. I can forsee charging 6k for cloaks and dusters, and pants and shirts. And people will buy em for the convienience.
