I as a nolife constant web surfer do not mind a coming soon or under construction page

I find it far better then nothing at all.

I understand you're saying that, Miss Ani. It's probably because you're so used to that right now, because everybody does it.

However, it's not good practice. Especially since most sites use "Under Construction" pages that never seem to get constructed. Which is very annoying. E.g. you visit a site, see a page under construction and think "Alright, will check back later then". A month later you come back, and it's still there. And after a year, the same. Or five years.

Maybe not going to be with Mae's site, but it's commonplace with a lot of other sites. Of course it's not that big of an issue withprivate site initiatives as it is with business sites, but it's the principle that counts. What counts is that you want your site to offer something to visitors. Not keep them at bay with possibly empty promises. Enough of that in the world already

There's a saying that goes with this: "Never reveal your true self."
I.e. always keep a few surprises up your sleeve. In this case, pleasantly surprise your visitors instead of having them long for something for a long time and possibly disappoint them because what you deliver isn't as good as they expected it to be

Okay, I'll get off my lecture stand now...

I just realized that I went a bit off-topic earlier... *blushes*
Sorry about that.

I've been wondering and thinking a bit about a one stop Tailor site myself ever since I started playing. I just lack the time and some of the skills to make one, time being the major disfunct here as skills can be acquired... *sighs*

But probably as has been said, everyone still wants to do his or her own site, which is quite understandable.

The key would lie in a site on which all Tailors that are willing can contribute, much like SWGTailor.com does already. That site just doens't focus on the actual products of Tailors in terms of pre-viewable garments but more on the intricacies of being a Tailor and running a Tailor business.

I'm trying to create a comprehensive resource page for tailors and customers at www.maetailoring.com. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Please let me know when you finish this up so I can add it to the catalog page of the link directory!

Actually I say it because I don't mind it..just like I stated.

Not because it's common, it isn't,
not because they never update, I don't care if they do,
but because I hate clicking on a link and having nothing happen..at all..

and it has zero to do with 'good practice' it is a personal website, not a fortune 500 company.
I want to see its human mistakes and problems, not its policys and standards

give me satifaction of cause and action..I click..it responds..

some of us are funny that way

I see where you're coming from Falech; however, we will have to agree to disagree! I originally created the site using Square721 BT; however, on most Explorer browsers, it defaulted to Arial when tested. I only put the recommendation on the homepage, as the site looks prettier when in Square font.

As for the "Page Under Construction" page; I have decided to simply put a notice on my homepage saying that the Catalogue will be completed shortly (as soon as Tiaga from TK Fashions comes back to me).

As I said, I value all constructive criticism and welcome requests for new information to be put on the site.

Off-topic of the original post, but germaine to the conversation: Microsoft used to offer a tool called WEFT (Windows Embedded Font Tool) which would allow you to convert TTF fonts to a server-side hostable format. You might want to check into it, as this would probably fix both your concerns (site looks pretty) and Falech's (site conforms to user, not vice versa.)
